I found the idea was original and the pictures colourful but the dialogue was a little lacking in detail

This book is super cute! We loved the colourful pictures and the easy to read words. Jack wanted a pet Dodo, be careful what you wish for, as they could get up to mischief. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this great book.

The Dodos Did It by Alice McKinley is a joyful dodo-filled romp with the very important warning... be careful what you wish for!

Jack is dodo obsessed. Everything he owns is connected to dodos - lamps, toys... you name it. He has it. But even Jack knows that these are no substitute for the real thing. And so... he wished for one. "Pop!" A dodo appeared!

When you're having so much fun with one dodo, why not wish for more? Jack? He ended up with ten. And the result is pure chaos everywhere. In the library, the swimming pool, the supermarket... but when he blames the mess, the confusion on the dodos - his parents are NOT putting up with that excuse! Dodos are extinct!

I love the chaos that leaps from the pages, the illustrations are full of movement and joy and... I spy Newton too!

Back at home, having been sent to his room... Jack makes another wish. Ooops!

The Dodos Did It is wonderfully entertaining, full of humour and... simply perfect for right now.

Here comes ‘The Dodo’s did it!’ from the author of ‘Nine lives Newton’. We were excited to sit down to read this and my daughter was enticed by the pink bold book cover.

On the first page we learn the names of the Dodo’s and my daughter loved ‘Scubie’ and her pink unicorn inflatable ring! She enjoyed spotting her on the pages in the story (As well as another character we are familiar with!)

Poor Jack gets into a lot of trouble and we laughed at all the mayhem created by the Dodo’s. My daughter had a big smile on her face whilst we read this, there is nothing like a bit of mischief and naughtiness to make a smile!

I throughly recommend this funny mayhem filled picture book. The story is great fun and the illustrations are very detailed and appealing. We really enjoyed looking at all the details in the pictures and talking about them together.

‘The Dodo’s Did it’ by Alice McKinley, published by Simon and Schuster is out on the 29th April 2021.

A fun tale about being careful what you wish for, communicated through a humorous story and delightful illustrations.

The story is about a young boy called Jack, who has a huge interest in Dodos, he LOVES them. So much so, not only does he already own a vast variety of Dodo toys and items, he also wishes for his very own pet Dodo. As luck would have it, his wish comes true BUT Jack soon realises Dodos can cause him lots of trouble and he begins to realise his wish isn’t quite as good as it appeared in the beginning, especially when no one believes him that “the Dodos did it!”

I think the story is easy to read, well paced, with some added humour. It’s an ideal length, being that it’s not too long and not too short, giving it the potential to hold the attention of its younger audience and will no doubt provide lots of giggles along the way. It is perfect for early years aged children and each page holds an opportunity to extend into a learning moment, where the children could be encouraged to count, find and name the Dodos.

As an Early Years Educator I am always interested in finding new books and page turners that my little peeps will enjoy and can learn from. I work with children aged under 5 and this is a book that I think my little peeps would love. I can see them giggling and counting along with me as we make our way through the pages.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an Advanced Readers Copy of this e-book to read and review.

The Dodos Did It! is an easy book to enjoy with its cheeky humour and beautiful illustration.

The dodos are very cute and there is so much detail on every page that it really allows your mind to be filled with imagination with everything going on. I also love that the illustration uses a family of colour, as this diversity isn’t something you see often enough in children’s books.

This was such a great book to read with my 4-year-old as we joked about his messy bedroom and who he would blame for the mess, but also about what pet he would wish for if he could have one. So it opens up some fun discussions which is what I always hope a book will do, meaning that we had a good laugh thinking about it.

The Dodos Did It! is a lovely story of a young boy who loved Dodo's and wished for a pet Dodo. He soon realised you should be careful what you wish for. It is beautifully written and illustrated and both myself and my son loved it.

This is a really funny picture book with gorgeous illustrations that would definitely spark a young child's imagination. I know my own children have both wished for all kinds of extraordinary pets at different times.
The story is about a little boy called Jack who loves dodos and wants a pet dodo most of it. Finally his wish comes true but he keeps wishing for more. Once Jack has ten pet dodos he finds they keep getting him in trouble, especially when his mum and dad can't seem to see them (because of course dodos don't exist!) In the end Jack changes his mind about his wish for so many!
This book would be great to use in school. I can imagine using it at the start of a topic on pets and I think it would generate lots of creative discussions, writing and artwork. It's a wonderfully fun picture book that I would recommend to all!
