I sat with my nephew who is 5 for many hours and he loved it. He was still talking about it several days later where I sat down with him again and went through it all again. We had many laughs going through it and I love to hear him laugh out loud! Christmas Stocking filler os going to be easy for me this year! lol.

The cover gives us a clue to the fun that’s coming, in “Billy Bob Flybottom, A Very Tall Tale,” lovingly written by American author Susan Kite. It’s a delightful rendering of a regional children’s story suitable for younger kids. Billy Bob and his cohorts will appeal to young imaginations with his tales of derring-do and adventure, interspersed with subtle life lessons that are always good to learn, of course.

It’s also an introduction to an area of the United States that may be unfamiliar to many people, including adults. Learning is always a good thing, no matter the age. Reading it aloud is also to be recommended, as that could spark discussion – kids do like to talk! Share “Billy Bob Flybottom” with your children, or children in a school setting, you won’t be disappointed.

The reading level of the text is mismatched to the audience it is appealling to. More illustrations would be very helpful to readers.

Strong Samson, a similar one, but in a child's version. it's not such a bad book. but not very good either. It was a bit boring, even the end. It's rare that an ending bores me if I know it's going to end.

This early chapter book is a humorous folktale set in the Appalachian mountains.

Being from the foothills of North Carolina, I was intrigued by the description of this book. Susan Kite's book, Billy Bob Flybottom, did not disappoint. Though I read it to myself, I can imagine reading it aloud to a group of elementary school students with my best mountain twang. This is quite the tall tell, peppered with words and sayings that students in our area are used to hearing. I can imagine the delight on a young kid's face, listening to the cute story. It would be a difficult read for some as the unfamiliar Appalachian versions of words might be difficult for them to read.

This was a nice folk tale, and serves an introduction for children to a different geography, The Appalachians. Definitely exotic for kids who aren't in the US. It's also quite a good message, on standing up and handling bullies , but subtly, so the child doesn't feel preached at. Would recommend reading it with the child, because some contractions might be unfamiliar. Suitable for children above 5 years.

This is a brilliant book by the author Susan Kite , it is aimed at children aged 6-10.

This book features the wonderful character of Billy Bob Flybottom (perfect name for a children's book!) And his lovely family. Billy is a well loved child and the residents in the neighbouring villages are in awe of his strength...all except the bully Jimmy John! This story shows you an creative imaginative way in which he can conquer the bully and not let people bully anyone.

A lovely, well written book with beautiful illustrations! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone with children , I think they will love this read !

With names like Corn Pone Holler, Billy Bob Flybottom and Hoop 'N Yoller Holler, you know you are in for a treat! Susan Kite's Billy Bob Flybottom is a book in the tradition of the old Tall Tales. Whether Billy is catching a tornado or saving a cow from quicksand, kids will love hearing about his adventures. I guarantee, they will want to know, "What happens next?" The illustrations by David Barrow are spot on in bringing the whimsical characters to life.

Billy Bob Flybottom was "tall as a cedar tree, strong as a team of mules". Too big for a cradle, a rowboat, seat removed, with ropes attached to the ends, was hung from the ceiling. As Billy Bob grew, "he could out-chop, out-hoe, out-plow and out milk..." anyone in Hoop 'n' Yoller Holler. Face to face with a cougar, Billy Bob took a deep breath and blew the cougar...across several fields of corn.

In the neighboring Corn Pone Holler, most of the residents were in awe of Billy Bob, his strength and gentle demeanor, all except Jimmy John Rockriller, a naysayer. Jimmy John was determined to expose Billy Bob for exaggeration and far fetched boasts. Not to be bullied by Jimmy John, Billy Bob hatched a plan...a contest!

I enjoyed this sweet tale of Billy Bob and how strong he is.

I found it was a good length and not at all drawn out. I enjoyed the language used too.

I would look for other titles by the same author.

I was unable to find this title on goodreads to review.

My kids and I really enjoyed reading this book together. Having grown up in the deep south, the stories of Billy Bob reminded me of the stories shared of great tall tales during story time at the library when I was a kid. I remember the older members of the community would sit us kids down and tell these tales and I loved every single character! It makes me happy to have a new tall tale to add to our collection. I also really enjoyed the illustration!

A charming short story showing a young boy grow up with absurd strength but even greater kindness. Most characterisations of people from the Appalachian Mountains tend to be quite negative, so it was nice to see a more positive spin here. It does still lean on stereotypes despite this.

A cute story that follows the adventures of a boy named Billy Bob Flybottom who lives in Hoop ‘n Yoller Holler. He was so strong as a baby and was even taller than his father at eight years old. An interesting story with black and white illustrations. Would recommend.
