The publisher's blurb is a really good hook and only a little misleading so I won't go there, and spoilers are just wrong. There is a bit of possible romance, can't be called a procedural for a few reasons but the due diligence seems impeccable. Very well written and the suspense is awesome.
I really loved it and had to finish it in one day!

Abby is a detective on Martha's Vineyard which is a small island. Her previous posting was in NewYork until she lost her partner and through her drinking also lost her husband. She grew up around the Vineyard so it seemed a good place to escape to. A young woman has gone missing- a young woman from a very wealthy family who pertains to be close to her but on closer examination knows little about their daughter. The blood father died in a boat accident when the rest of the occupants managed to swim to shore- something that has left Samantha- the missing girl- terrified of water. The man who captained the boat is now working for her step father who is running the smiley business. Abby thinks there is more going on than a missing girl and a ransom note which hasn't been actioned. Who is behind all this and what is the real motive. This is a nice easy read- a cozy crime where everyone knows most other people in the town but wealth meaning they still keep themselves to themselves. I liked Abby- she came across well and dealing with her demons gave her a depth of character. This is written in the first person from Abby’s point of view which I think works well in this type of novel.- to me this was a slightly darker- almost- but not quite- cozy crime type book. A cleverly thought out, enjoyable read- the first of a new series.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a first in a new series. I believe my first book by this author. This is a mystery. Abby is a detective, and she has just returned to her hometown (brave lady). Samantha Claymore turns up missing-and the search is on. Many unexpected twists and turns later and all is solved. A couple of things didn't make sense to me-but overall a good read. I can see that it may make some people uncomfortable but I found it enjoyable. I liked the honesty of the main character and that she was flawed. 4 stars

This was a good read. I like the mystery and how they connected the dots.

Detective Abby is handle a case of missing teenager girl Samantha when her mother reports her missing. While she tries to find Samantha who like to be called Sam she learns Sam didn’t believe her father tragic accident was a accident but a murder.

As Abby dig into Sam father death she also comes across other missing girls in the area while she works with fellow officer Teresa who doesn’t like her because she took the job she wants I didn’t like her character at firs because rather then get mad she could have learn from Abby and Abby could learn from her and especially when they are the only two female at their precinct. I’ll admit they both do work well together once Teresa stop being a b**ch.

There are a lot of twists and turns. Abby is determined to bring Sam home while trying to remain sober she believes if she solves this case she maybe able redeem herself in her own eyes. I like that Abby is proud of things she accomplish in New York even though things fall apart there but she doesn’t have to bring it up all the time while investigating just prove it everyone that your are great at what do show it not tell it. Ugh. I can totally see Abby and that reporter Lincoln being something in the next book.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Samantha Claymore doesn’t return home after an afternoon bicycle ride on Martha’s Vineyard, Detective Abby Pearce acts right then!
