Things I liked:

1) I absolutely loved the dual time lines

2) I loved Rose. She has been through a lot but still was a good person.

3) I thought that the relationship in the book was done so well. Not one of those toxic relationships at all.

4) I think Theo really made this book. He was done so well and really cared about Rose.

Things I was not fond of:

1) Really the only thing I did not like was how the ending went. I don't think it was super twisty like I expect from a thriller to be.

I predict that we'll be hearing more from this writer...

Meeting up, Theo is surprised by her story and sees that there is more to it than she has told the court. He does some investigating on his own. After several meetings, Theo is unsure as to whether Rose is innocent or a cold blooded killer. My first book by J A Corrigan and it won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the shocking ending.

Dark, Unsettling Suspense....
Committed nurse, loving wife...killer..? Dark and unsettling suspense, well written with a credible cast of characters and a gripping, tension mounting storyline. Neat twists and turns that the reader may not see coming will keep pages turning until the very end.

Captivating!

Rose Marlow is a hardworking nurse and a happily married wife. So why on earth would she admit to killing one of her patients? Not only does she plead guilty and is sent to prison for a 20 year sentence but she will not discuss why she did it. Not a single word.

Theo Hazel is a recently divorced struggling author that wants to tell Rose's story because he feels there is more to this than Rose is letting on. He would be right.

And, wow, does she have a story to tell. I dare you to put this one down. I really don't want to discuss the plot further because you will want to savor this one.

I just love books like this. Books where we know Rose is in prison for murder but we don't know why or how this came to be. With each chapter, like the peeling of an onion, big and small revelations are revealed which makes this book fall into the unputdownable category. I should also mention the writing is on point. No cheesy dialogue, no repetition. Just really good storytelling. I will definitely keep my eye on J.A. Corrigan. 4 stars!

The story follows Theo Hazel, an author who is desperate to find his next title to pay off his debts as he uncovers the truth about Rose.

I was lucky enough to be sent this book by Netgalley and this book was amazing, I have not read a thriller that genuinely left me reeling in a long time. All the twists were perfectly executed and I was left with no idea what was going to be the result until the last chapter. The book initially gave me the same feeling as Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier which I love as there is obviously something wrong about what Rose is sharing, she is in prison after all, but you can't quite figure out what its going to be. This is book is a compulsive page turner and a testament to the amazing writing of J.A. Corrigan.

Rose was a nurse. A good nurse, hard working and conscientious. Also a loving wife. So why would she kill her patient? But it appears that she did. And she is in jail for it. But there are those who fail to understand what happened. One such person is Theo Hazel, former journalist and very much down on his luck. One paycheck away from bankruptcy... So he writes to her and offers to write her story. She is having none of that... until that is she has a visitor... who changes her mind.
And so begins a very interesting and intriguing tale; Rose's story. And as she divulges more and more, not only that she knew her victim prior to him becoming her patient. And boy how she knew him, when it all came out, blew me away. And, oh, how I felt for Rose. But to say more would be spoilery so I won't.
It's extremely well plotted and, well, it has to be as it is rather convoluted and interconnected. The author does a great job of keeping all the balls in the air all the way through as each element is visited and revisited until, well, all is finally revealed and resolved... Boy was the ending exhausting - but in a really good way. With twists and turns aplenty along the way, along with secrets, lies and a very healthy dollop of dysfunctional behaviour it's a veritable fest of a thriller.
It's also quite dark and emotional and kept me on my toes throughout, although I did guess one thing, the rest escaped my clutches and hit me as each was revealed, finally leaving me wholly satisfied when all was said and done. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Rose is such a great, well written and well developed character that you can't help but feel in your heart that she is innocent. Loved the book, the twists and turns are perfectly timed. You just want to devour the book in one sitting. Highly recommend.

A seriously dark tale which is strangely compelling and definitely unsettling. Rose is working as a nurse but had previously been studying to be a doctor and she had been passionate about becoming a paediatric doctor. Her dreams were seemingly derailed by a passionate love affair and becoming pregnant by the enigmatic Daniel. Rose is now in prison but it is really hard to believe that such a caring, kind woman could have actually committed the murder of a patient that she is incarcerated for.
The themes of this book are shocking and the sense of danger and evil lurking are cleverly built up to the point that you do not know who to trust. I liked the characterisations and also that various parts of the story were based in Nottingham, my original home town. I’m left with an overwhelming sense of sadness but did enjoy the ending. Thank you.

Rose Marlowe is in prison for killing one of her patients. Theo Hazel visits her in prison as he wants write a book about her case. The story goes back to Rose's childhood, her relationship with her mother, her lover and her sister. and several of her work colleagues. The story is told using the past, 1991 and the present, 2006 format and it's told from Rose and Theo's perspectives. Theo starts to believe that Rose might be innocent or is he just believing the lies of a manipulative killer. I like the authors writing style but the pace was a bit slow. t's quite a dark and twisted tale. I was desperate to find out Rose's tale of events that led to her to being locked up. I did guess parts of this story but that never spoils a my enjoyment of a book.

The Nurse is a twisty thriller but some parts seemed confusing to me. The insta love angle was annoying especially between two adults, one of whom is in jail and still married. The ending is baffling as well and didn't feel tied together.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot was tight and satisfyingly twisty, the characters well rounded and believable, and I liked the author’s style of writing. The descriptions of the surroundings were so vivid I lost myself in the story and was surprised to look up and not be there! Highly recommended

Clever and intriguing psychological thriller. I loved the tension between Rose and Theo, who are both fascinating and complex central characters, and I didn't see the end coming. All in all a great read! This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

Wow what a book! Firstly, I connected instantly with the main characters, Theo and Rose. Also, it takes a really special writer to somehow garner sympathy for a character who has pleaded guilty to an awful murder.
Others however, including Theo, think there might be more to the story.
This is a great thriller, sharp and pacy. It unfolds oh-so-cleverly. One of those rare books that I tried to read slowly because I didn’t want it to end, but raced through nonetheless.
An easy five star read for me!

This was my first time reading a book by author J. A. Corrigan and it definitely will not be my last! I finished The Nurse last week and can’t stop thinking about it. From the time I started until I was finished, I was completely engrossed and couldn’t stop guessing what was happening. I love how it’s told from different characters during different times to slowly paint an eerie picture. This is one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time!

A really good story!

The Nurse is the story of a nurse who ends up in prison after admitting to killing a patient under her care.

I really enjoyed reading this, it is well paced, has well rounded characters (on the whole) and has a very good way of revealing just enough information to keep you guessing.

I felt that I could have learned more about Miles and he was just a little too far away to really understand his character. But I loved Rose and Daniel, the main characters.

There was just enough imagery to set the scene and I liked that, it wasn’t overly detailed.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Part way in and I thought this was fairly decent.
Three quarters of the way in,and I had a fairly good idea where it was going.

But I did not see all the twists that would get me there,or the fact that I was really rooting for these two main characters,that despite everything came across as so likeable.

I didn't love it, didn't hate it but find myself still thinking about it and the motivation behind the actions.

Rose Marlowe is a nurse and a loving wife. But she is currently incarcerated for murder. Writer Theo Hazel visits her as he wants to write a book about her case. When she talks abut her life and what has happened, Theo thinks something is not exactly right and thinks that Rose might be innocent of her crime.
The story goes back to when Rose was a med student and waitressing in her spare time where she meets Dean quite older than herself. They form a relationship and the story tell us of the events that lead up to that fatal day.
Thank you, Canelo, for a copy of the Nurse. I liked the premise of this storyline and the characters were well developed but for me unlikeable. I found this story quite slow burning, but I also felt that although this was a good story, there was no bite in the story. It lacked oomph. 3 stars from me.
