Thanks to Random House and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I am a massive fan of Lisa Jewellery so I was very excited to read this one. And it did not disappoint. A well written mystery based around two teenage parents Zach and Tallulah who after a night out, go missing. This is out of character for the young mother, devoted to her son Noah. A year later, Sophie crime writer moves into the area with the new headmaster of the local school and is soon determined to solve the mystery of the missing teenagers, with the help of Tallulah's mother. This book kept me hooked and I recommend to all who like a good crime thriller.

I love Lisa Jewell's novels and this is another great one.
Kim's daughter has not come home after a night out with her boyfriend. No-one else is too concerned at first,, but with Tallulah's baby at home, Kim knows her daughter would not stay away voluntarily.
So begins the story of That Night She Disappeared, told along two timelines, Tallulah's and Sophie. Sophie is a writer of detective novels, just moved to the area. And the story of missing young people a year earlier has her intrigued.
The story has a great ending that also left me feeling relieved, Jewell had me caring so much about the characters.

I can easily see this on Netflix as a series or one-off film. In 2017, teenage mum Tallulah, much loved by many, heads on a date with her baby’s father, leaving their little boy at home with his granny. Kim wants her daughter to experience what teen life can be about and is happy when she learns she’ll be going to one of her college friends’ houses. But Tallulah doesn’t come home. A year later, Sophie, a detective writer who has moved with her boyfriend to the area – he’s the new headteacher of the local boarding school – is walking in the woods when she finds a sign that says ‘Dig here.’ Sophie will not be able to predict what obeying the sign will do to her life and those so desperately wanting to hear from Tallulah. In flashback scene, we understand more about the young mum’s determination to succeed and to not settle for second best. But not everyone agrees with her wanting to do that. There are moments when reading that are hand over mouth startling, and the novel is all the better for it. One of my favourites of Lisa’s without doubt.

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House for the ARC of this book.
Another fantastic book from Lisa Jewell. Really great characters well formed that you soon feel totally at home with. Nice to read a book based on current years which refers to things we all use today like Sonos and smartphones. Some more great names for characters that you certainly don’t hear everyday and the mix of Sophie actually being a published author. The main story finished nicely but there were lots of sub stories that I would have loved to see completed too.
Looking forward to next book already.

Midsummer 2017: teenage mum Tallulah heads out on a date, leaving her baby son at home with her mother, Kim. At 11pm she sends her mum a text message. At 4.30am Kim awakens to discover that Tallulah has not come home. Friends tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a pool party at a house in the woods nearby called Dark Place. Tallulah never returns. 2018: walking in the woods behind the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started as a head-teacher, Sophie sees a sign nailed to a fence. A sign that says: DIG HERE.

Jewell has delivered another page-turning, intense read with this. Quite quickly, I was taken with Tallulah and Kim and intrigued by their story and what was about to unravel. Jewell creates an atmosphere of unease throughout the book; I knew what I was reading but kept thinking of other reasons for the behaviour we were seeing and I found myself second guessing everything. For the first half, I was never too sure what was happening and this definitely kept me turning the pages.

Jewell then ramps up the tension and begins to reveal the secrets of Tallulah and what has happened to her. The reader is given a little reveal to wet their appetite, keep them hooked and keep them guessing. I was coming up with theories left, right and centre, but Jewell honestly surprised me with this one and I loved the twists that just kept coming.

Jewell has written this in multiple timelines and it only served to keep me gripped. As we flitted from 2016 to 2018 and 2017, I was enthralled by what might happen and loved seeing how Jewell pulls everything together. This was definitely an intense read.

Character wise, these are not my favourite characters and I would not say they were easy to get to know. However, it did not matter for this read, they were there to tell the story and not necessarily for the reader to become invested in. I still enjoyed the different personalities and seeing how they all interacted. Personally, I do not think the book needed Sophie, she did not bring a huge amount to the plot and I think the book would have been fine without her presence.

'The Night She Disappeared' is another dark, intense thriller from Jewell who just keeps delivering the goods. Another excellent read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK for an advance copy.

Despite hearing lots about the author over the years, this is actually the first Lisa Jewell book I have read. ‘The Night She Disappeared’ tells the story of teenage mum Tallulah, who goes for a date night out with her boyfriend, whilst her mum babysits her baby son. Just a normal night to the pub for a meal, they don’t expect to be late home but when they meet some college friends they go to a house party, her mum receives a text at 11pm checking this is ok, this is the last text that Tallulah sends and she never returns home the next morning...

Over a year later and Tallulah and her boyfriend still never returned home and the case has seemingly gone cold of what happened that night when they disappeared. However, is something finally about to be uncovered by an unexpected source...?

They story is written from the viewpoint of various characters and switches between the time before the disappearance to current day, and then of course the night in question. It definitely kept me guessing as to what had happened and kept the pages turning as you always wanted to know more. I liked the addition of the ‘outsider’ character of Sophie who ultimately doesn’t let this lie thanks to her profession as a detective author, it was a nice realistic link to how this would be uncovered, with the logical thinking etc.

Definitely one I would recommend, thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Jewell and Cornerstone for the advanced readers copy.

Nineteen year olds Tallulah and Zach - parents of a baby boy - are missing after a night out.
This gripping detective novel flips backwards and forwards in time to tell their story, and to solve the mystery of their disappearance.
The elements of a gothic thriller are there: a house called Dark Place that holds dark secrets, a secret liaison, a domineering boyfriend whose controlling behaviour threatens real menace.
The ‘detectives’ are Tallulah’s mother, Kim, and local crime writer and headmaster’s girlfriend Sophie.
Jewell always writes a fast-paced and compelling read and this one is no exception.
The story unfolds gradually and I didn’t see the denouement coming.
Recommended for those who like an easy to read crime novel with great characterisation and a clever plot.

When I first requested this book on Netgalley I wasn't too sure if I would be accepted only because Lisa Jewell is a very popular author. I don't have much of a following on social media platforms but I am a big fan of her thrillers so when I received the email I was shocked to see that I had been accepted and got to reading it straight away!

The Night She Disappeared is about a 19-year-old girl called Tallulah who goes missing with her boyfriend on a night out. This book follows a few POVs and the timeline runs from when they went missing to before and after they went missing. We get to see the lead up to this dreaded night and the first chapter just opens up the story really well and grips you in from the start. The ending left me wanting more! I wanted to know how things went on from there just like in The Family Upstairs.

I loved the shocking twists that popped up in the story along the way. Again this was a solid 5 star read from Lisa Jewell.

Thank you to Netgalley, Random House UK and Lisa Jewell for this e-ARC.

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell
I have read and enjoyed all of Lisa Jewell’s previous novels but I have to say that I think that this is probably now my favourite. The story draws you in immediately. The description of the word arachnophobia which opens the book is followed by the chilling lines.
Tallulah suffers from arachnophobia. Tallulah is in the dark.
The story of Tallulah is told over three different time periods in 2016, 2017 and 2018. We gradually learn more about the life of this young mother who has disappeared with her boyfriend after a rare night out together.
It has all the hallmarks of a straightforward missing person story but this is not a run of the mill story at all. Additionally there is Sophie, a writer of ‘cosy crime’ novels, who arrives in the village with her boyfriend who has just become head of the local college. She is relentless in her pursuit of the truth about what happened on the night Tallulah disappeared.
There are clues strewn throughout the novel and as you think back you wonder whether you could have pieced it together sooner. The way in which the relationship between Tallulah and Zach is described is nuanced and believable. The sections of the story where you learn of events from Tallulah’s perspective are very well constructed and I enjoyed the amateur sleuthing of Sophie who digs into the mystery she has discovered on her doorstep.
The story grips from the opening lines and read at a furious pace to ascertain the truth about the events of that fateful night. It is a genuine page turner. I thoroughly recommend this book to those who love this genre and would like to thank the author, Lisa Jewell; the publishers and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

4.5 stars
This is the first Lisa Jewell book that I have read, despite the considerable hype that I have seen surrounding many of her previous stories. And I am so glad that I got a chance to read this one first.
This really did keep me engaged, so much so that I felt an urge to keep reading to see exactly what would be revealed next.
I liked that it wasn't blatantly obvious what had happened to Tallulah and Zach or who was the one/who were the ones leaving the clues in the current timeline.
Speaking of the different timelines, I also enjoyed the way in which the different timelines allowed us to find out more about the central players/characters in this.
The ending was also pretty strong and didn't go down the totally unbelievable route than many books like this often do.
As soon as what happened that night is finally revealed, the pacing really picks up and I found myself almost rushing through to see how everything would be resolved.
I'll definitely be seeking out more of Lisa Jewell's work going forward after reading and enjoying this.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

During the last year, I have changed my reading genre to crime/mystery/thriller so, having read all of Lisa Jewell’s romcom/women’s fiction books, I thought I’d give this one a try.

It was so good that I went straight out and bought four more from Lisa’s mystery/thriller backlist!

Tallulah is a teen mum to baby Noah and, along with her partner Zach, they live with her mum, Kim. Tallulah and Zach go out for the evening, leaving Kim happily babysitting Noah, but they don’t return.

Would Tallulah knowingly leave her darling baby and go off somewhere? But nobody seems to have seen her or Zach since they moved on from the pub to a friend’s house party. Near to that house is a private school and, a year on from the disappearances, Sophie – a crime writer – moves there when her partner, Sean, becomes the new headteacher. Maybe the school is connected in some way to the house and the disappearance of Tallulah and Zach?

A brilliant plot and an utterly gripping book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK, and Cornerstone for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

The Night She Disappeared instantly grabbed my attention. It's a definite page turner and I found myself saying "I'll just read a little bit more". I started devising all kinds of theories to what had happened to Tallulah and her boyfriend and Lisa Jewell had me guessing until the end.

I love a novel with a creepy old house and this book did not disappoint. I love the atmosphere an old mansion can create and the sinister goings on at the aptly named Dark Place had me hooked. Lisa Jewell is brilliant at creating tension and suspense with clues and misdirections dropped throughout the book.

This book was such a page turner from start to finish. I loved it and feel envious of those who haven’t read it as it’s so good! Lisa Jewell writes so well and her characters are memorable and realistic. It’s easy to relate to them and to be carried along by the storyline. Talullah and Zach are teenage parents who go missing after a pool party at a lavish country house. The plot is compelling, there are lots of twists and turns, and just when I thought I knew what had happened, I was proved wrong. I really didn’t want this book to finish. It has everything - an intriguing plot, characters that you care for (and a few that you really dislike!) and a dramatic and original setting, written by a superb storyteller. Can’t wait for the next novel by Lisa Jewell!

The Night She Disappeared is another fantastic and compelling novel from Lisa Jewell. She really is the master of writing novels that contain numerous threads, relatable characters and cover a multitude of issues.
Tallulah is a teenage mum who is doing her best to raise her son and study part time. She has the unwavering support of her mum Kim, and the overbearing attention of her son’s father Zach. After a rare night out, Tallulah and Zach fail to come home and despite a police investigation, there is no conclusion to the tragedy.
Two years later, Sophie moves to the area as the partner of the new Headteacher of the local private school. After finding something strange in the woods behind their cottage, Sophie starts an investigation of her own with unexpected results.
I cannot praise this novel enough for it’s captivating storyline that is revealed at the perfect pace. The characters are introduced with enough detail to make them individual and interesting, without detracting from the narrative. The ending had a perfect balance of the unexpected without the unbelievable. I will be recommending this novel to reader friends, and as always, I will be waiting with baited breath for the next Lisa Jewell book.

One of those that I couldn't put down and kept me awake until the wee hours of the morning!

Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach, are going on a night out as their baby Noah is 12 months old now and they haven't been out for ages. They all live with Kim, Tallulah's mum, and she received a text saying they are going back to a friend's house and will be back late.

However, they never arrive. This was a fast paced psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat, loved it!

What a great read absolutely loved this books. The character development is fantastic and the twists and turns keep you guessing throughout. The story is based upon a you g couple who disappear with the story being told from their perspective, the mum of the girl and a crime novelist who moves to the area and starts to find clues related to their disappearance. The author cleverly intertwines their stories over different years and brings to light what happened together. Couldn’t put it down would recommend to anyone who likes a mystery novel.,

I was really excited when I was approved to read this though netgalley but it has been a little bit of a bumpy ride!
The first half of the book seemed to take me ages to read. I’m quite a quick reader usually but this just didn’t grip me. I loved most of her other books too.
I am very glad I persevered though! Story of tallulah and her boyfriend who vanish after a party without a trace. And then what happens after.
Totally unrealistic and wonderful escapism!

Deffo recommend

What an amazing book! It’s the first time I’ve read anything from Lisa Jewel – how on earth have I never come across her before? This book starts strong with a short preface about arachnophobia, and the final two sentences immediately drew me in: Tallulah suffers from arachnophobia. Tallulah is in the dark.

It did take me a while to get to grips with the timelines and I kept having to backtrack and remind myself of the dates. Once I got into it though I just couldn’t stop reading. It was impossible to put down. It’s one of those books where you think ‘I’ll just read one more chapter’, but then that section ends on such a gut-wrenching cliffhanger that you can’t possibly wait till morning to continue. Such wonderful descriptive writing. You could actually feel the love, emotion, anger and fear throughout. All the characters were fascinating and very well described. A brilliant story with so many rumours and red herrings that I was guessing right up to the end. There was nothing that I didn’t like about this book. I even ‘accepted’ the occasional extremely long sentence which would have normally had me pulling my hair out. When I say ‘extremely long’ I’m talking 156 words! I know – but somehow it worked. A fantastic read, and I’m looking forward to reading many more of Lisa’s books. Thanks to the publishers and NetGallery for allowing me this ARC in return for an honest review.

Another brilliant read by this author who just does not disappoint. Spent the first warm day of the year in the garden soaking up some Vitamin D and relaxing whilst enjoying this utter treat. This is another page turner and I as gutted to finish it which is always a true reflection of excellent writing skills. Read in one sitting and now I’m going to re-read some of her earlier books.

Another great read from Lisa Jewell, Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach have just disappeared one night. Now, a year later, the new headmaster's girlfriend discovers something buried and becomes interested in their story.
Bound to be another bestseller.
