I've not read any of Lisa Jewells books before .......why?
This is a great read. Characters described and then the story moves along on how they all connect, and you just cannot stop turning the pages to see what happens.
Tallulah is a teenage Mum at college, and this book clearly describes her struggles with her partner and her feelings for him, and then comes along Scarlett who adds to her confusion.
Great storyline and also touching on the coercive control in a young relationship.
Highly recommend this for any thriller reader.

A captivating read. Lisa Jewell's books are always good and this one did not disappoint. This is full of twists and turns which kept me hooked until the last page.

Oh my goodness me! What a summer of new psychological thrillers to read… Louise Candlish, Shari Lapena, Claire Mackintosh and, Lisa Jewell… to name but a few. Lisa Jewell’s books never fail to hook me in and The Night She Disappeared was absolutely amazing. It had me hooked from the very beginning! The twists and turns in the plot were gripping and I couldn’t put it down. The flashbacks between modern day and the time when everything unravelled helped to develop the plot and our understanding as a reader without being too confusing and all I can say is WOW! I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to recommend this to everyone.

Yet another brilliant thriller from Lisa Jewell !!

In 2017 two teenagers went missing on a night out. Tallulah and her boyfriend, Zach went out to the local pub and left their son at home with Tallulah’s mum, Kim. But the young couple didn’t return !!

In 2019, a new headmaster takes over at the local boarding school and him and his girlfriend, Sophie, move into the headmasters cottage. Sophie is an author who writes crime books so her interest is immediately piqued when she sees a sign at the end of the cottage garden stating ‘Dig here’.

Suddenly the disappearance of Tallulah and Zach is back in the spotlight and the police are on the trail but will they finally find out what happened to the missing teenagers ?

This is a great whodunnit style thriller that will keep you guessing throughout. The story is told in different timelines as well as by different POV but after the first few pages I didn’t find it confusing at all, which I think is definitely down to this brilliant authors style. If you love a book with lots of twists and turns then this one is definitely for you.

I was a bit worried when I first started reading The Night She Disappeared. It felt too much of a slow burner for me and nothing crazy was really happening. I love when there is one shocker sentence or paragraph at the end of a chapter that means you just have to continue right now. Then I realized I was reading at the page-turning pace anyway. Things were happening. It was just the the author was carefully sowing seeds in the story and my brain. By the time I came to the end of the book, I was truly appreciative of the excellent plotting and the overall experience it provided me with.

Lisa Jewell also did a great job of unravelling the various characters. While admittedly there were some that were rather one-dimensional, anybody that was in Dark Place on the night of the disappearance was a delight to follow. As the chapter went by I kept changing my mind about who was at fault and what the final outcome might be. These people were not as the initially seemed and I loved them for that.

It’s true that the blurb for The Night She Disappeared doesn’t give away much, and neither does this review. Believe me, it’s the best way to be. Don’t go looking for more information. The best experience for this book is going in with as little information as possible and just let Lisa Jewell take you on a ride you won’t forget.

Really enjoyed the Family Upstairs so was excited to read this one!
Told across different timelines and POV i must admit I found it a bit confusing at the beginning, however as I had a proof kindle copy I think that made it harder as the pages weren't separated!
However I was sucked in and couldn't wait to find out what was going on!
I felt so sorry for Kim and what she is going through trying to find out what happened to her daughter.
I wasn't sure on Sophie's character, didn't really warm to her but liked her role in the story!
Its addictive and suspenseful and I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Tallulah, didn't see the twist coming, a fab read!

It's been a long while since I have read anything by Lisa Jewell; I was hooked as soon as I started this one, thank you NetGalley for the advance copy.

The book alternates between 2 timelines; the year that Tallulah disappears and the present day, 1 year later and Tallulah's mum Kim is left holding the baby (Noah) and with no answers as to what has happened to her daughter (Noah's teenage mum) and her boyfriend. They left for a night out, and never returned. People say that they went to a pool party at Scarlett's house and left in a taxi, but where are they.

Cue present day and Sophie, a young mystery author who has moved to the village with her husband who has started anew job in the local school. She finds a clue "Dig Me Up" and here restarts the investigation.

It's full of tension, you are willing Sophie to find out what has happened to the 2 missing teenagers, wanting Kim the mum to have some closure.

This is a great read; I gave it 5 stars.

I love all of the books from Lisa Jewell but I especially love the thrillers she has produced in the last few years. And this new thriller didn’t disappoint! This book tells the tale of missing teenagers Zach and Tallulah. We slowly learn what happened to them to cause their disappearance as the plot flashes between present day and the months leading up to their disappearance. So, what happened to them? Will they be found? Will they be reunited with their baby son Noah? You’ll have to read to find out! I really enjoyed this book, although I did find the constant switching of timelines confusing at first. If you like slow burn thrillers, you should definitely check this one out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Night She Disappeared is one of the best thrillers I've ever read. Definitely the best so far this year. I was completely immersed from start to finish thanks to the flawless prose, stunning characterisation, tight plot and immaculate pacing. I didn't want it to end. Lisa Jewell will be an insta-buy for me from now on.

Yet another Lisa Jewell book that easily earns 5 stars. This story was very original and the swapping from past to present time really worked. The characters were so realistic I felt I knew them all so well. I wouldn’t want to give any plot away but just have to say the scenes with Tallukah and Zak had me on the edge of my seat some of the times.
This is bound to be a big hit I’m sure and so we’ll deserved. Look forward to her next offering.

I’m a HUGE fan of Lisa Jewell’s books (she’s not too shabby as a person either) and I was delighted to see she has a new book out which I immediately downloaded without even looking at the blurb!

I particularly love a story that takes the reader back and forth via several characters points of view, slowly revealing secrets and changing direction after each and every chapter.

The Night She Disappeared is about a 19 year old daughter and new mother, Tallulah who goes out for a meal with her boyfriend and both of them disappear never to be seen or heard of again. The story has a dual timeline which takes the readers back to the night of their disappearance and the months leading up to it and then a few years later when Tallulah’s mother, Kim is still grieving for the loss of her daughter and trying to bring up her grandson alone.

Just over a year later, a crime author moves into the village with her boyfriend and finds something in her garden which is a vital clue about the disappearance of the young couple, re-opening the case and giving Kim hope that her daughter may still be alive.

This is a twisty, suspenseful book which kept me guessing throughout. With lots of little red herrings thrown in I was never quite sure where the story was going or what happened to Tallulah and Zach.

This is a highly enjoyable and addictive mystery which I thoroughly recommend.

This was one of those books where I was dying to know how it was going to end. I was racing through the chapters hoping to find little bits of information that might give me a clue, but it honestly wasn’t until close to the very end that it became obvious to me.

I loved the way that Sophie got involved with trying to help solve the case even though she was new to the town, knew nothing about the disappearance and wasn’t officially qualified to do so. It’s something that I imagine I would do if I landed in the same position. She was all consumed by Tallulah’s disappearance and I can see how that would be possible when there isn’t an awful lot else going on in your life.

Characters 👫👭👬

I really liked Tallulah. She was a teenage mother trying to do the best that she could. But just like all teenagers, she didn’t always make the best decisions and found herself in a life that she didn’t want. I empathised with her hugely and obviously empathised with her mother an awful lot.

As alluded to above, Sophie reminded me a lot of myself. She threw herself into the case even though she was worried it was overstepping a boundary. I found it interesting that she kept what she was up to away from her partner. I’m not sure if I would have done the same because I am guilty of indulging in some gossip here and there; especially with my other half.

Scarlet was a very troubled character. Almost immediately I knew that she wasn’t going to be a good friend for Tallulah however the further I got into the book I started to doubt my first impressions. I think that she cared for Tallulah a lot, but her past experiences and the lifestyle she had always known hindered her ability to be as good a person as I think she had the ability to be.

Writing Style ✍️

I really enjoyed how this book was structured. It jumped about between time frames, skipping between pre-disappearance, post disappearance and current day. The chapters were relatively short and snappy so that made it near impossible to put down. Lisa Jewell weaved in just the right amount of tension to make the book engaging but not too much that I was on edge. Sometimes I like that in a thriller so I can just let the mystery unravel around me.

Conclusion & Scoring 🎖️

I thought that this was a fantastic mystery thriller and would most definitely recommend it. It’s perfect for cuddling up on the sofa under a blanket and speed reading through. You’ll have to speed read because once you get into this story, you won’t be able to put it down.

Tallulah appears to be a happy young mum, working hard at college whilst living with her mum, her young son Noah, and her boyfriend Zach.

One night, after an evening in the pub, Tallulah and Zach just disappear.

The next day, after not coming gone, her mother, Kim tries to find our where they’ve got and why.

A year later, Sophie and her boyfriend Shaun move into the cottage attached to his job at the private school and things relating to the disappearance start to unfold.

Told in multiple timelines this was a story line that I didn’t see coming.

I liked how the characters developed from one part to another and how their true personalities were revealed bit by bit.

Another great thriller with unexpected twists along the way. This was unlike other novels I’ve read of hers but I still really enjoyed it.

Lisa Jewell is one of my favourite authors. Here, her observations on family life are spot on, as always. The characters she portrays are well rounded and entirely believable. We follow the Sophie, newly moved to the small town where two teenage parents had disappeared the previous year. Sophie is a novelist, writing detective novels, and she is gripped by the mystery surrounding the disappearance. When a sign appears near her garden inviting her to ‘Dig here’ she is drawn in and becomes thoroughly involved.
I found this book absolutely unputdownable and read it at speed just to find out what happened. It kept me guessing all the way through and I was unable to predict what was going to happen. All in all, another triumph for Lisa Jewell!

When you read a Lisa Jewell book you know you will get interesting characters, a compelling mystery and twists you won't see coming. The Night She Disappeared proves to be another entertaining thriller, this time involving a missing couple and a mystery writer who is pulled into the case. Told from multiple POVs, the story is set in several timelines. It's a little jumbled at first but soon I got the hang of it.

I really liked Kim, the mother of the missing woman who never stops trying to find her daughter. Her upstanding character and tireless reflection on the awful situation made me root for her. I also liked Talullah, the daughter. Even though naivety was hard to read at times, her behaviour felt realistic especially in terms of her relationships with her friends and love interests. The book highlights how peer pressure and manipulation can have a huge effect on someone's life.

I have to say I found the ending far-fetched and I wish there are more surprises in terms of the whodunnit. I also felt Sophie, the mystery writer, is superfluous because Kim could have taken over her role. But this is the kind of comfortable thriller that I still enjoy in the end!

Lisa Jewell is the master when it comes to suspense/mystery thrillers. I discovered her many moons ago when I read "The Girls" and have been hooked since then. When you see a new book coming out you know you will get a brilliant read and again she Delivered with a capital D!!
The pace is fast and the story flows and you don't have a clue what happened. It's a book you want to sit down and read from beginning to end!

Utterly brilliant, this deserves to be read in one sitting.

A bit of a slow burner with alternating points of view. This is a stunning piece of crime fiction telling the story of a young woman torn between a rock and a hard place who is simply trying to figure out how to be a mother.

Tallulah Murray gets pulled into the shiny, effervescent world of Scarlett Jacques only to end up trapped in a world of murder and deceit wrapped up in a bow called "love".

Desperate to find her daughter and bring her home, Tallulah's mother joins forces with a cosy mystery writer to discover the truth.

I simply adored this piece of writing. The characters were rich and authentic. I loved the depiction of Dark House and it's dark history and how everyone who inhabits its walls befalls some form of tragedy.

100% recommend and cannot wait to read more of Lisa Jewell's work.

You know you’re in for a treat when you pick up a Lisa Jewell book and this one is no different. A story which tells of the disappearance of two young adults, Tallulah and Zach, and the search to discover the truth of what really happened the night they disappeared.
