This is a lovely cookbook with a variety of interesting looking recipes. The recipes are well set out and easy to follow and the book has a good range of recipes to try.

I love Indian food and this was a great cookbook to really get me into making my own spices and Indian food in general instead of going out and buying it at a restaurant.

A homely South Indian cook book - in both recipes and presentation. There's a Bible quote to accompany each recipe., though no contextual information. I don't think I've ever read a South Indian cook book before and was intrigued by the spices used. Unfortunately the review copy had expired before I was ready to try recipes....

I have to admit that I had doubts about this book when I first read it, probably concerned by the deeply religious overtones, which I do not share. However, it is sincerely written with a deep love for cooking food and sharing it with others, and having a number of wonderful recipes from a Sri Lankan friend, I was determined to try those in this book .
And wow! How glad I am that I did! I made the beef korma, the aapam (fermented crepes) and the potato palya. All were very successful, and really tasty and reminded me much of my wonderful meals at my friend’s home. Because of the success of these recipes, I tried (rather skeptically!) the sausage curry, and that too was great; served with the aapam it made a great addition to my quick meal repertoire.
Having had these successes I am now going to try two of my favourites: Dosa (or dosai as they are called in the book) and Idli.
From Chandrika’s Kitchen is definitely a book I would recommend to lovers of Indian cuisine; it is home cooking at it’s best, food to enjoy cooking with flavours you would want to share with friends.

This book was a bit disappointing. I took off stars for the Bible verses, lack of precision on the recipes, and lack of background on the ingredients/recipes. The aim of this book is to “make Indian food at home more accessible through clarity, ease, and simplicity”. The recipes are for sure simple, but almost too simple. If you are just starting out in the kitchen, you may feel the recipes are lacking proper instructions. There is a bible verse on almost every recipe page, which may be fine for some, but I would prefer to see that space used for background or history of the recipe since this is a cook book.

from Chandrika's Kitchen feels like a genuine family cookbook with simple, if not paired down, recipes. Each recipe is carefully explained with the ingredients highlighted so you are sure not to miss any steps. The food images are simple but show beautiful and attainable meals. I absolutely loved the desserts and sweets section, which contained slightly more complicated recipes, and they all look absolutely delicious!

This is a great introductory cookbook for those just starting to try Indian cooking! With simple recipes and full-scale pictures and explanations of ingredients, it really makes cooking a new cuisine easier. However, even the experienced chef will find something new and exciting to make in this book.

I love cook books and this one was no exception. As this wasn’t my first voyage into Indian cuisine the recipes weren’t all new and exciting to me, but as a lover of cook books I often find that to be the case. However, that doesn’t put me off as there are usually a few new variations to find and this was true of this book. I would definitely recommend it.

I guess I expected a lot from this book, and I'm disappointed. I don't like the photographs; they could've been a lot more professional. The recipes are not at all interesting and are easily available on the internet.

This book is fabulous. Clear and easy to follow recipes. Traditional spices used to make traditional meals. Lovely photos help to make the book and recipes more appealing.
