This certainly didn't go the way I expected. A bit slowly paced and repetitive for a thriller, but still enjoyable.

Thanks to KL Slater, the publisher, and Netgalley for a copy of the ARC.

The Marriage KL Slater
I really enjoyed this book. The story was different to any book I have read, which is always good!
Tom and Jesse are friends, at the end of a night out, during an altercation, Tom punches Jesse and Jesse dies as a result. The book begins 10 years later with Tom getting married to Jesse's mother. We are then introduced to Jill and Bridget, the mothers of Jesse and Tom and each chapter is narrated by a different character.
I couldn't work out where this story was going, and had so many suspicions along the way. Overall a great read.

I was given a copy of The marriage by KL Slater by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I have read several books by this author so was looking forward to this one. Tom gets out of prison after killing his best friend Jesse. It is a shock to everyone when Jesse's mum and Tom announce they are married. Told from several different sides it explores feelings but also has a few twists and turns along the way. A great psychological thriller.

The hook: "Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him." Tom and Jesse were best friends. Their moms, Jill and Bridget were also best friends.

Then one night, when the boys were 18, something goes horribly wrong after a night spent partying. Jesse is dead, and Tom is in jail for his murder. Case closed, friendship over. Right? Of course not. In a bizarre twist, Bridget and Tom get married, and the reader spends a big chunk of this very twisty book trying to figure out-- what's the catch. Who can we trust? When is the other shoe going to drop? K.L. Slater is a genius, weaving a web thick with lies, betrayals, and of course, packed with a hefty dose of karma.

A Suspenseful and shocking story! It pulled me in from the start, and I couldn't put it down! This book was my first K.L. Slater's and it won't be last one for sure. Really loved it!

What a thrill ride! It's Bridget's wedding day but this isn't your typical wedding; first of all it takes place in a prison, and second of all she's marrying the man who killed her son twenty years ago. If that doesn't get your attention, nothing will! Of course there are consequences; his family is unhappy about his release when he brings the new wife home since of course they know her and she's twenty years his senior! So many other twists and turns that your head will spin, but it's totally worth the ride!

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Bridget is getting married to Tom the boy who killed her son and his best friend Jesse 10 years ago. Tom is also her ex best friends son. Her friends and family can’t understand why. But not is all as it seems.

I don’t want to spoil the twist and turns of the book.

I’m not sure the best way to begin this review so I’m just going to go out and say it: I was disappointed. While it was a somewhat enjoyable read, I didn’t get the gripping psychological thriller I was promised.

The Marriage has a great twists and interesting characters. Therefore, it makes it difficult to actually pinpoint what it was about this book that left me disappointed, especially without giving away any spoilers. If I really had to drill down in my reasoning, I would say that the story was a bit too far-fetched for me. The twist was good but it didn’t reflect what had happened previously in the book. Also, the plot line that was built up around other characters was left hanging a bit and left me with an unresolved feeling. Likewise, some inconsistencies took away from what could have been a great story.

The Marriage did wrap itself up well in the end so I didn’t close the last page feeling too disappointed.

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.

What a twisted storyline! When Bridget and Tom get married, in a prison ceremony before his release, absolutely no one is happy about it. What is Bridget thinking? Does she love him? Is she planning to get revenge?

Fast paced interesting plot, complicated characters, and plenty of twists and turns. This book did not disappoint!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and K.L Slater for an ARC in return for an honest review. #Netgalley #TheMarriage

I have discovered most of my new favorite writers on NetGalley. K.L Slater is one of them. Her novels are filled with suspense and always keep me guessing until the end. I always end up talking about these books at work or with friends. "The Marriage" is another example of an amazing read; and totally worth it!

As always K.L. Slater comes up with a killer hook...a woman marrying the man who killed her son. Straight away your mind and imagination is at work. Does he know who she is? Why would she do it? Is it revenge? Well I won't say but I will say it keeps you guessing throughout. I will say you can absolutely rely on a K.L. Slater book been a great read.

Another thrilling read from K L Slater. The book draws you in from the first chapter where we meet Bridget who is preparing for her wedding day. The shock being that she is marrying Tom, who killed her son Jesse. The story then goes back ten years previously. Bridget and Jill were best friends and their two sons Jesse and Tom grew up together. On a night out Jesse and Tom ended up arguing and Tom killed Jesse with a single punch and ended up in prison. The wedding took place while Tom was in prison and was kept secret from their families until he is released. Jill has been counting the days to Tom’s release. She has found him somewhere to live, a job opportunity and is outraged when she learns of his marriage as she suspects Bridget of taking her son away from her. Tension builds between both families especially when we realise that Jesse had a girlfriend Coral who was pregnant and has since had a little boy. They specially resent Tom for taking Jesse away from them. Before long buried secrets threaten to come to life with dreadful consequences. This is a story of lies, deceit and confessions with so any twists and turns and a completely unexpected ending. A fabulous read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book was good but left me with some unresolved feelings. I wish it would have been a little more detailed

This book has such a clever concept, which when I was first introduced to it, found totally baffling! A mother of a murdered son, marrying her son's killer? I love how K.L. Slater introduces this odd concept and makes you yearn to know how on earth Bridget got into this predicament! A totally compelling read from start to finish. Fabulous!

This writer never fails to create an underlying anxiety in me from page one! There is a clever tension as well as a development of character that makes for some pauses in the tough times of all in the story.. great read thanks

Disclaimer: I received a free digital ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is the type of book I choose to read based exclusively on the blurb. What a complicated and juicy story!

The plot of the book is pretty straightforward. Bridget has married her son's killer, who she fought really hard to put in prison. Now, as a married couple, they have to face Tom's parents and Bridget's grandchild, and his mother to tell them about the marriage. While the main plot is unconventional and confusing at times, there are other subplots that make it an incredibly engaging book from the beginning.

The story is filled with twists and revelations that make the reader question Bridget's motivations for the marriage. But it also introduces elements that make the reader question Tom's intentions as well. Every character seems to be hiding something, and as more characters are introduced, more questions arise.

While there are many characters in the book, the story focuses mainly on Jill and Bridget. They used to be good friends until the day Jesse died, so their dynamic is pretty enticing from the first interaction they have with each other. For obvious reasons, Jill doesn't trust Bridget, so her focus is trying to find out why Bridget would marry Tom. She is also dealing with issues in her marriage, which had seemed to be always bad but the situation exacerbated after Tom went to prison.

Bridget, on the other hand, has turned her grief into a successful business model that helped her to be more confident. At times, she comes up as arrogant and clueless about how her actions affect the people around her. However, she is also compassionate and a great grandmother to Jesse's son Ellis. While she has a conflict with Ellis for marrying her father's killer, she truly adores the boy and wants him to have an easy life with his mother, Coral. In some instances, her motivations are not clear and she seems to be hiding something.

While the plot is pretty straightforward and some elements foreshadow the biggest twist, once it was revealed, I was surprised with the turn the story took. While it is not a shocking turn of events, the story has enough mysterious elements to make it somewhat unpredictable, especially after a very minuscule character became a huge part of the ending.

Overall, a twisty thriller that I enjoyed.
