I recently read another book by Sue Roberts set in Greece and I was looking for redemption with this one. Unfortunately, I found this book to be about the same as the other. While it was a light read and perfect for the summer, I just didn't find there to be as much development in the story or characters as I would have liked. And the romance was lacking for me. I'm not sure that Sue Roberts is the author for me, though I can see why people do enjoy her books!

Sam is a morning tv host who attends a works party and ends up sleeping with a married man unknowingly. She finds herself jilted and jobless, her sister lives in Greece and offers she a place to stay whilst the dust settles and people forget all about her misfortune. Whilst in Greece she finds herself after slowly down to an almost stop after being on the go since she started in the tv industry. She meets Spryos she sisters next door neighbour who show her the island. Will Sam decide to return to England and the hustle and bustle of tv or will she decide to stay and take things more slowly in Greece.

I love the setting of this book and the descriptions of Greece. I had a hard time with Samantha's, narration, however. The Great Greek Escape (Going Greek) is written in first person, which takes some getting used to, and quite frankly I'm not very fond of. It reads kind of like a diary, which maybe is appropriate because Samantha is kind of immature for being an adult- which also annoyed me. This is a book of family, love, and overcoming life's obstacles. I think this is a good, light, summer-y read. I might read more in Sue Roberts' Greece series in the future, just because I enjoy the locations.

This was a really good read. Easy story to follow, charming setting and great characters. Really enjoyed it.

An enjoyable escape to Greece. After Sam’s disastrous work party snafu she escapes to Greece to visit her sister Fiona and her family. Sam tries to find herself while praying and hoping that the one big mistake she made doesn’t ruin her life forever.

I love a holiday travel romance book and enjoyed another “vacation” from Sue Robert’s!

Just what I need when the weather is this miserable and we still gripped in lockdown. This amazingly funny and pure dose of escapism came at the right time for me.
Samantha and Spyros are perfect together and Samatha has to decide where she truly belongs.
You’ll love it !

When things go wrong, things go upside wrong! Samantha goes to a party and hooks up with the wrong man. It turns out he is a married man.However, it comes to light and she is the one who becomes the social pariah.
Sam has a sister who lives in Greece and invites her over to get out of the limelight. While in Greece she meets Spyros who is the neighbor. Spyros shows her another way of living which is to slow down and enjoy life. But, will Sam take his overtures or go back to her social life in the public eye?

This book is full of humor and laugh out loud experiences that will keep you turning the pages. My husband knew that I was not going to put this book down because I was enraptured in the hilarious moments.
I loved the characters in the book and the author kept the book moving from beginning to end and it was never slow. The characters developed to include the secondary characters as well!

I definitely would recommend this book to family, friends or anyone looking for a great read!

This book was a perfect read for a dull & drizzly weekend. Whisked away into the wonderful warm sunshine of the Greek Islands with descriptions so sumptuous I could almost feel the heat of the sunshine on my skin. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Perfect escapism if you’re stuck at home or staycationing.
A great storyline with believable characters I warmed to immediately. Although I could guess what was going to happen with a certain old flame & found myself getting frustrated with Sam for her naivety, but that just shows how wrapped up I became in the story.
An enjoyable visit to a lovely sounding island … if / when travel restrictions are lifted fully I might just be tempted to go there myself!

Touted as a "laugh out loud" romantic comedy and a book akin to Sophie Kinsella (whom I've read), I found this to be further from the truth. However, I do like the fact that this book had its background in Greece!

This was a cute story, I felt it drug out a bit and got really good the last 15-20% and I felt the ending was super rushed and not practical as they weren’t together but a minute.
Would have loved more depth to the story between spyros and Sam.

Sam is a television presenter: a job that she has been focused on since childhood. But with the wrap party over, and meeting a man who piqued her interest, she’s thinking her summer may have more than just relaxation and looking into new opportunities. Until she’s caught by the paps and finds that the man who claimed not to know who she was is married, given her a fake name and is talking to that press.

Nothing to do but dash off to her sister’s house in Rhodes: a sheep farm where Fiona, her twin daughters and husband have made a new life. I’ll be honest – the highlights of this book for me were the moments with family and the kids, and even the sheep – and the descriptions of the countryside, the food and the changes that Sam was forced to make. Now Sam herself wasn’t a particularly engaging character – there was a bit too much ‘I’ve done everything right BUT this” sort of attitude from someone of her age and years in the business, and a bit of that wore thin quickly. But – in Greece she meets the neighbor Spyros – a very Greek, take life as it comes sort of man, and lo and behold her first love, Aaron makes a reappearance.

Yes, I enjoy Sue Roberts’ books and for the most part her characters – but this one just didn’t ring any real bells for me: there was little connection between Sam and either romantic interest, her family was more responsible and responsive to her needs and building her back up after her trauma. And while the romance didn’t really work, it did feel like there were little sprouts of growth and change that Sam could have nurtured a bit better – and given us a more ‘I am woman, hear me roar’ attitude. But overall, this was a solid beach read – not emotionally drawing enough to disrupt the flow, but enjoyable and scenic – and enough to make you want to explore Rhodes for yourself.

Going Greek is a feelgood and warm novel about finding love and the right path in life through self discovery and adapting to change. Be warned: there are glorious descriptions of food that will make you hungry!
Sam is a hugely likeable character and the unfairness of the situation really made my blood boil. She is subjected to trial by social media as her personal life is torn apart online. Luckily she is able to escape to Greece to stay with her sister's family. Here she re-evaluates her life as well as getting a chance at love. But will she choose her first love Aaron or kind local Spyros?
The book is written in the present tense and from Sam's first person perspective. This allows us to follow events as they occur as well as gain insight into her choices. Her character feels very natural and the situations and dilemmas she faces seem quite naturally realistic.
There are themes of missed opportunities and unrequited love. Sam thought she was perfectly happy until the media storm but now she had time to consider her options for the future. She is successful careerwise but her personal life and lack of love life mean she is not as happy as she could be. Now she has the chance to change but this stepping into the unknown feels risky.
Going Greek is a light hearted read that would be perfect for relaxing in the garden or on the beach.

I enjoyed the escapism of this book, running away from your problems and finding unexpected answers in new welcoming surroundings. I felt the atmosphere of Greece, the feeling of freedom and time to sort through the weight on your shoulders.
I loved the life learning that Sam discovered in herself, she grew to know what’s important to herself and others around her. Definitely worth travelling to Greece with Sam!

I loved this! It made me feel as though as I was on a Greek island - the landscape, food and lifestyle is described so vividly and colourfully. The escapist romance also helped.
The heroine Samantha, a TV presenter, has a great life in London, but something is missing. She lives in a delightful, tastefully decorated London mews, and enjoys going out on the town with her celebrity colleagues. When she suddenly finds herself in the midst of a huge scandal, however, she decides to escape to Greece, and stay with her sister's family on their farm.

She loves the relaxed life there, on the beautiful, sun-kissed island, and finds herself charmed by the handsome Spyros, a cheese-maker who lives nearby. However, when someone from her past turns up, Sam is faced with a difficult choice...

Reading this is the next best thing to travelling. It would also be perfect holiday reading!

This book was exactly what I needed while I was finishing up with uni - it was light, easy and filled some good characters.
That being said, it was definitely not the best book I've ever read. I've often found that romance books set in an exotic place are actually a little boring because they rely on the descriptions of said exotic place to carry the story - but eventually these descriptions wear thin. This book wasn't any different and despite it being around 300 pages, not a lot really happened.
I found the protagonist, Sam, a little boring at first and we only really see hints of a personality throughout the book - she would say some quirky things but these became fewer and far between as it went on, to the point where the quirky things were actually pretty cringe and out of line with Sam's character.
What I will praise the book for was that Sam definitely did go on a journey (and I don't just mean to Greece). she started off as a very work-obsessed and superficial character, but by the end of the book had learned to appreciate the simpler things and had relaxed into a good person who cared for her family's best interests.
Overall, if you're looking for a light romance book this is definitely that (just beware that it will make you want to jump on the next flight to Greece).

This is a charming little tale. The book takes you to a magnificent Greece. And the characters are charming and delightful to read.

When the protagonist Samantha, a successful television presenter with a never-ending career, has a catastrophic work party, she decides to visit her sister and family in Greece to get away from all the talk and avoid the lash of people on social media. But her outlook on life changes dramatically when she meets the people and learns about their lives in Greece. It is modest yet in every sense incredibly beautiful.

Just as Sam re-considers her work and her future, she falls into crossroads when she runs into old flame from her high school days, Aaron. Aaron who is also a television presenter, but not a successful one has been nothing but treating her with no respect and meets her solely for his professional advancement. Around the same time, she meets Spyros, a charming, well-mannered, chivalrous, handsome, and sexy neighbour in Greece. They feel an immediate attraction to one other, but doesn't go any farther than being friends.

It takes a while for Sam to realise that Aaron isn't the right guy for her; he never has been and never will be. She is having the most wonderful days of her life with her family. I couldn't help but be envious of her lovely family. Fiona, her sister, and Nick, her brother-in-law, and their beautiful little girls, Polly and Rose were nothing less than absolute sweethearts. My heart melted reading about them. Oh, how I wish I had a beautiful sister, an adorable brother-in-law, and darling nieces like Sam. What a lucky lady! This was a major highlight of the book for me, I guess. I was more drawn to Fi, Nick, Polly, Rose and Spyros than the others in the book.

The only thing I felt less was development of Sam and Spyros relationship. For me, the book finished far too fast. I wish I could have read more of them. And a bit less of Sam and Aaron, who I felt were overused. I truly hope there will be another book. I would love to know more of Sam and Spyros and their new life in Greece. And, of course, her beautiful family of Fi, Nick and the little girls. I cannot get enough of them!

This was an interesting read for me. And you could feel the sun, smell the sea, and lose yourself in those beautiful descriptions. This was a lot of fun for me. I was hooked from the beginning. Even while I wasn't reading, I found myself wondering about all the characters and beautiful Greece, and how I wished I could visit this lovely town someday.

Going Greek is fun, romantic and light-hearted story. A nice, beautiful escape from everyday life. Well, if you're searching for a nice little entertaining and laugh-out-loud read that will transport you to Greece and be charmed by Greek life without moving a muscle, this is the book for you.
