In this book the author nails what it is that I personally love about Greece; the laid back lifestyle, the simplicity of a byegone age and the friendliness of the locals. When Samantha arrives with her city heels, it takes a while for the magic of Greece to work on her but slowly and surely it does. I love the sense of place, the characters, especially the twins, and the storyline. This is probably my favourite book by Sue Roberts.

TV personality Sam suddenly finds herself in the media spotlight, and not in a good way. With her career on the skids and her love life in a shambles, Sam decides to take a break and visit her sister in Greece.

This is a pleasant romance that would make a nice beach read. Some of Sam's adventures will make you grimace, and some will make you smile. This a fun read for a summer day. It's a reminder that the people who are there for you when everything seems the worst are your true family and friends. 3.5 stars, rounded up to four on sites with no half star option.

I received a free copy of this book from Bookouture via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own.

The absolute PERFECT summer read! It was my first Sue Roberts read and I'm dying to read more. There were so many moments where I felt like I was in Greece myself, so much so that I desperately want to visit now! At moments it gave me a bit Mamma Mia meets Bridget Jones vibes, which I absolutely loved as they are two of my favourite movies of all time. It wasn't as romantic as I expected, but it's wholesome and dreamy. If you're looking for a quick read over your summer break, this is definitely a book that I would recommend!

A perfect bookish escape! Sam is the cohost of a popular morning TV talk show. That is until she is caught kissing a married man well I have to say I’m not certain why this caused such a scandal? Sam is not married she did not know this guy was married. I am kind of shocked people reacted this way but OK. SO Sam packs her bags and heads to her sister’s house on a small island in Greece. Now I can’t think of many better places to lick my wounds and regroup then on a Sunny Island. I loved the setting of the story: the sun, the sand, the food. I also really like Sam’s sister Fiona and her adorable twin nieces. The book fell a little short on the romance, I didn’t necessarily care for either of the love interests. One of them I don’t think we were supposed to like, the other guy? Didn’t really take much away from the book I think this was more about Sam finding her way and rediscovering herself. The perfect book to escape into on a lazy afternoon!
*** Big thank you to Bookouture for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

If you are looking for a great summer read, this book is for you! This book is more than a romance, but a journey of life decisions. Sam is a TV presenter that spends the night with a man, who turns out to be married. When reporters capture a picture of Sam kissing the married man in a hotel lobby, the social media labels Sam a homewrecker and causes troubles for her job. Determined to take a break from all the bad comments, she decides to spend the summer with her sister and her family in Rhodes, Greece. While spending time away from all the stresses of London and her career, Sam crosses paths with two amazing men, one is Aaron, her first love and the man who broke her life, and her neighbor Spyros, who is all gentleman and nice guy. Which man is the one Sam is meant to be with?
I really enjoyed reading this book, especially Sam's family and her nieces. I loved the author's writing! She had a wonderful ability to put the reader in the beautiful landscape of Rhodes, Greece. All the side characters were nice and fresh touch to the story. Sam was a well written character! Her conflicts were realistic and allowed her to grow towards to kind of life she wanted as well as getting her HEA. The ending was well satisfying and wrapped up the characters' storylines perfectly!
It's funny and heartwarming story, I recommend it for light reading, it's perfect beach read. I look forward to reading more books by this author!

I’ve read and enjoyed other books by the author, even though they are different from the books I usually read so I was looking forward to Going Greek. I’ve enjoyed other books set in Greece and the author does good job provoking the country, culture, way of life, tastes and smells. There’s a real sense of place running through the books. Thankfully, the romantic elements aren’t over-bearing. This a fun read, perfect for the beach, preferably while sipping cocktails.

Reading Going Greek honestly felt like a much needed summer holiday with a beautiful setting, delicious sounding food and I didn't have to risk any sunburn!

Sam is a successful TV presenter until a scandal forces her to flee to her sister's house in Rhodes. She thinks she's just going to be there for a few weeks until everything blows over but the slower pace of life makes her think, is she really happy with her life?

The setting of Rhodes really made this novel so well described I could almost picture it in my mind.

Sam was likable if a bit indecisive but there was an interesting cast of secondary characters, like hers sister Fiona and her twin girls, that made it a fun read.

I have to be honest compared to the setting and characters, the romance kind fell a little flat and didn't give me as many fuzzy feelings as I would have liked but of course that's just my opinion.

Going Greek is a light-hearted read, perfect for a few hours of escapism.

One of the things I love the most about Sue Roberts’s writing is the characters. They are always real – never totally perfect and not always part of the ultra-beautiful elite – just characters who are down to Earth and are dealing with everyday life. Reading Sue’s books is such a joyous thing to do and they never fail to make me smile, shed a tear or two and become utterly lost in the plot.
Sam is quite a glamourous but still a sweet character. An innocent mistake leads to devastating consequences and Sam flees the country to stay with her sister in Greece. Unwinding and healing, Sam begins to re-evaluate her fast-paced life back in London until a blast from the past shows up. Is Sam’s heart and future in London, or Greece?
For me, the main theme of this novel was Sam’s recovery from a fairly devastating event. The media and public’s reaction to it all made me so cross as poor Sam received all the backlash and merely a finger was risen in the direction of the man involved. Sue creates a perfect representation of reality through this and it really made me think about how things are portrayed and perceived in the public eye and how others react. This made me feel really protective over Sam. I wanted to take her under my wing and protect her until everything went away – thankfully her best mate and sister did a pretty good job of it.
Set between London and Greece it was great to recognise familiar places in London whilst exploring new places in Greece. The description was rich and colourful and really brought both places to life and made them easy to imagine – even if you’ve never visited.
Despite the opening being quite emotional, the plot is full of humour and gentle romance which makes it a perfect summery read. It’s a short book and the shortish chapters make it one of those novels you just cannot put down once you begin.
Likeable characters, beautiful settings make this a must for your TBR.

What a perfect holiday read! I really enjoyed it while reading, and it isn't based solely on romance but rather on life-turning decisions.
Story is about TV presenter Sam, who had a one-night stand with stranger, that turns into the headlines the following days.
Sam escapes to Greece where her sister with family lives and takes a well deserved time off. She meets handsome neighbor Spyros, who is all gentleman and nice guy. But! She meets her first love Aaron too! And he wants to reconcile with her. Sam is confused, but plans to follow her heart. Where will it lead her too?

_______
I really enjoyed reading about this book, especially about Sam's family and her nieces. Scenery was really good written, I had a feeling what does Rhodes look like. All the side characters were nice and fresh touch to the story.

Sam has some conflicts, she doesn't know how to proceeded with her life, but with the help of her family and friends, she deserved her HEA.

It's funny and heartwarming story, I recommend it for light reading, it's perfect beach read.

I mean, really, who doesn’t dream about skirting away for a couple of weeks to the warm sun and beauty of the Greek countryside? I was lucky enough to live on the island of Crete when I was a child, so I know first-hand how amazing it is there. This book took me back to my childhood with the wonderful food, the warmth of the people, and the scenery.

Samantha, the main character, is a successful TV presenter in Britain, but after going home with the wrong guy one night after a few drinks, she suddenly finds herself in the middle of a publicity scandal. Needing to lay low for a bit, she heads off to visit her sister and take a short holiday in Greece. And what would a holiday under the warm Mediterranean sun be without the possibility of love?

What I liked:

The description of the people and setting in this book were spot on. I love how the author creates a sense of “small town” warmth in just a few short pages. I love the themes of family and self-forgiveness. This is a great, not-to-serious, rom-com perfect for a little beach reading.

Do you remember the movie Notting Hill with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant? If you loved that movie, you’ll love this book!

What I Wish Was Different:
I had a hard time connecting with Samantha at first. Initially, she comes off as a bit self-absorbed. Her character does grow, but it took a little while to really root for her.

Additionally, there were some really heartfelt sub-plots in this book, but for me, they fell a little flat. I would have liked just a bit more build up and conflict/drama in those relationships.

For it’s wonderful take-me-back style and a for the happy ending we all deserve, this book earns a solid 4 stars.

My Thoughts: firstly, can we talk about this cover? It’s so pretty, it’s bright and colourful and just entices you in straight away! – makes me think of holidays abroad and sunshine which is exactly what I needed with all the wet horrible weather we have been having in Yorkshire recently 😂

I felt really sorry for Sam when one night after a works party she goes home with someone & instantly falls for him, without even really realising she’s planning their future together but little did she know he only saw her as a one night stand and was keeping a big secret from her.

The fallout from that one mistake is massive, she’s losing work and she’s the focus of social media, to try and get away from the scandal she’s found herself in she escapes to Greece to spend some time with her sister and her family, but a sucker for punishment (as we all would be) she finds herself unable to stop checking up on what the people are saying about her & this ‘holiday’ becomes less than relaxing!

Just when she thinks all is lost for her life she is reunited with an old flame in very unfortunate but hilarious circumstances, could he be her light at the end of the tunnel, or is it true what they say about an ex being an ex for a reason?

Put all this with a whole host of other characters, Sans Nieces who are hilarious and just always have the perfect comic timing, attractive Greek men who keep Sams head turning even when she thinks she’s happy with her old flame & people from home who keep checking in to make sure she’s ok & what you have is an absolutely hilarious unputdownable book about a woman who runs away to escape her life but might just find what she’s looking for in the process.

After being called a homewrecker after sleeping with a married man, Samantha finds herself without a job. A well-known television personality, now haunted by the paparazzi, Sam takes her sister Fiona up on her offer to visit her and her family in Greece. Life is beautiful on the tiny island, including spending time with her twin six-year-old nieces. Then she meets Spyros, a handsome man who gives her a tour of the island.

However, Spyros is not the only man Sam meets. She runs into first love Aaron and Sam wonders if she indeed has romantic options. After all, she sees how happy her sister and parents are in their marriages, so is there hope for her after all?

Will Sam return to London and get back in front of the camera? What about the relaxed live in Greece? Is she ready to get back to the grind or is there something there that can change the course of her life?

What a fabulous story by Sue Roberts! A delightful story from beginning to end. I loved Sam, Fiona, the twins and Spyros. I loved how happy and carefree her mother was. I loved the contrast between Sam's life in London and her time in Greece. Lastly, I loved the slow build of the romance, leaving the reader to see whether or not she would end up with Spyros or Aaron or no one at all.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Book review: Going Greek (previous title: The Great Greek Escape) by Sue Roberts

This one had me craving Greek salad and wanting to hop on a plane ASAP to visit Rhodes, Greece! The vibe and description of the island was charming, I felt like I’ve been there before and I loved how Roberts introduces the culture through dishes and traditions and let’s you into a different (and soulful) lifestyle than what we are usually used to

Sam got on my nerves a few times, I felt as if she got all worked up about unimportant things (aka Aaron) instead of enjoying being in such a beautiful place and with great company, but I think that’s what we do sometimes in life and it made it feel more realistic.

I loved the side characters — Fi, Nick, the twins, Sofia and Spyro ( <3 ) they gave the story a boost, and I would’ve liked to see more of them.

Ultimately, it was a nice read and one I’d recommend to anyone looking for a light summer read that’s not too strong on the romance and more on the side of self-discovery

I loved the setting of this book, I love Greece, but I haven't been there for a long time. It was nice to escape into this book for a while and imagine myself being there.
I didn't always like Sam and the decisions that she made, The story was also a little slow to start with.
This isn't my favourite Sue Roberts books, but it's a easy and fun read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

I loved this book it follows Sam, who lives in London and is a celebrity thanks to her job as a TV presenter on ‘Wake Up Britain’. After a night of fun, Sam’s life gets turned upside down. Social media starts dragging her name, she loses jobs on other shows, and her position on ‘Wake Up Britain’ is also in question!

As a way to go under the radar and let things settle down, Sam travels to see her sisters family in Rhodes, Greece for the summer. While there, Sam enjoys the quiet life but also reconnects with an old love, and also starting a new relationship with cheesemaker Spyros. (think I will have to go to Greece hmm)!

I wasn't too keen on the character Aaron, the only man she’s ever been with in a long term relationship. Old feelings are stirred up, but she’s also starting to have feelings for Spyros. She also needs to figure out how to save her flagging career back in London.

A copy of this book was kindly provided to me by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Going Greek follows Sam Southern, a very successful TV anchor (or presenter in the UK) who seems to have her life together. After a night out with her TV crew, she decides she deserves some fun and goes back to a man's hotel room. It isn't until the next morning, after they've parted ways, that she finds out he is married and the public already knows.

To get away from the ensuing media craze, she jets off to Greece to spend the summer with her sister and her family. While there, Sam learns the value of slowing down and enjoying the little things, and of course the value of good Greek cooking!

Overall, I gave this book a 3 out of 5. I thought the story was so close to being exciting, but needed some more oomph. The book is billed as a romantic comedy, but I didn't find myself laughing (which isn't too much of a surprise for me) but I also didn't fall in love with any of the characters. The romance definitely felt like a way off to the side plot and I would have loved to see more of the slow build instead of just the final moments.

The writing style of the book was really what threw me. It felt off to me, which was maybe because the book was written in present tense which I'm not used to. But also Roberts spends a lot of time telling instead of showing.

The setting in the Greek country side was dreamy, and I loved feeling like I was traveling even from my living room in Minnesota. I loved Fi's family and the comedy of errors that was always around them. I just wish the rest of the book gave more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of the book in exchange for my review.
