“if you're going to force yourself to look for someone,,, why don't you develop one-sided feelings for me”

okay listen, i hate cliches and i hate the fake love trope but this, i can put all my hatred aside for this alone. i'm a fast reader, and i managed to finish reading this like minutes after i got accepted to read it, and let me tell you, i loved it.

maaya is the cutest little thing ever. she gets so nervous around chigira and but still follows along with everything he says. i just want her happy AH

and chigira, man i want my own chigira, hate everyone except for him.

the story begins after maaya confesses to her crush, only to be rejected and ridiculed online, so she seeks a new person to have a crush on. that was, of course, until chigira, the ladies man that everyone loves, proposes for her to have a one sided affection with him (oh la la).

i can't say much without spoiling the entire plot or at least premise of the first volume but all im saying, this was definitely swoon worthy, and i want my second volume asap like right now.

so cute, i'm going to be obsessing over this.

As someone who hasn't read a lot of manga, I think that this would be a good point to start if you too are new here.
Overall, I think that the description led me to believe that this would be not only about her trying to move on from the old crush but also about making her old crush jealous which wasn't true and is something that I liked. It focused on the female main character and her heartbreak.
While there were a few issues like Maaya Kisaragi being really insecure of her looks, it seems to work well with the story and I think that in the issues of the manga to follow, it could work well in order to develop her character arc.
The other central character was Chigira-kun, he is very popular in school and decides to help Maaya Kisaragi. I think if the whole stalking element would have been an issue for me if it wasn't something Chigira-kun wasn't aware of. But since it was something that they had already discussed and agreed upon, it actually made the whole thing cute.
My favourite part was definitely the ending and I can't wait to continue reading Maaya Kisaragi and Chigira-kun's story.

This book was really cute. I love the art style and the characters. The plot is cute but seems like it could get stale quickly

This was so adorable!!
Maaya has decided that she is only going to have one sided crushes, and never confess her feelings again after a confession goes really wrong.
She confides this information to Chigira, a fellow student in her club at school. Chigira tells her to start having one sided feelings for him, so that she can start smoking again. He's been watching her for a while, and seems to have feelings for her.
As they date without actually dating, Maaya is truly starting to have feelings for Chigira. I think he is the sweetest bean, and that she deserves to be treated like he treats her.
He is the school pretty boy of course, and she doesn't feel pretty at all. She feels like she could never truly be with him.
I am excited for the future of this series!

This was such a flipping cute story! So many times I made lil squels because I couldn't contain how cute it was. I really hope the relationship keeps developing in the next few volumes!
The characters are adorable and so sweet to each other and it's just the absolute best read if you're looking for something light and fluffy.

3/5 stars

I went into this thinking it was something different than it was which is completely my fault but still found it enjoyable. I thought that this was supposed to be fake dating turn lovers but the proposal is that she pretends to have one sided feelings for this super popular guy. I'm still not exactly sure why he suggested this instead of fake dating so that concept didn't sit as well with me but there were cute romance situations in here and I'm curious as to where exactly this will go. Overall the characters were okay but didn't feel like I got to know them really well through this first volume. I may continue on with this series as there were some cute romance moments but so far I'm unsure.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kodansha, and Kujira Anan for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Maaya confesses to her crush, a one-sided set of feelings, only to be harshly denied and even ridiculed by the guy on social media. Chigira, the most handsome guy in her grade, overhears and suggest she heal her rejection by temporarily having a one-sided crush on him instead, asking her to basically act the same way toward him that she did her initial long-time crush. Is this relationship to remain one-sided? Will Maaya's feelings become more than just a fake?

I really enjoyed this manga. I found it to be heart-pounding, but light-hearted in it's young romance. The art is fantastic and the story is quite intriguing. I would highly recommend for shoujo lovers and I myself may just be out to seek Volume 2!!!

Thankyou so much to Kodansha comics and Netgalley for letting me read this.

Reading it, this reminded me abit of To all the boys I've loved before, with their whole pretend to be going out scenerio.
It was a cute manga, about fear of rejection and unrequited love. I did find it hard to get into to start with but once I got into the story, I really enjoyed it and I will definitely be looking out for the second one.

A cute fluffy love story, that will make you smile ear to ear.

This was pretty sweet, but I am still unsure how I feel about the story line. From almost the beginning of the manga, Maaya only believes in one-sided love feelings because of a heartbreak. That, I can understand but I thought that it was quite weirdly formulated sometimes. This first volume is quite superficial and I hope the next volumes go a bit deeper and develop the characters.
I think this won’t be a long series because you can already see the ending here. Maybe it will surprise us, but for the moment it is quite a classic shojo. I recommend it though because it is a pleasant read and I am a sucker for cute shojo.

Actual rating 2.5

After reading so many good shojo and romance manga this month, this one was a let down.

After conceding her feelings to a guy who doesn’t even know she exists, Maaya is told that she can have one sided feelings for Chigira, a cute and popular boy at school.

My biggest issue with this was that there was no connection. Both characters didn’t feel well developed. Both in their individual personalities and in their friendship/budding romance.

It felt like the author was trying to get from point A to point B and wasn’t focused enough on the actual journey. It just wasn’t believable to me.

I definitely see potential for this to get better, but I don’t think I’ll be continuing in this series.

First off, my absolute favorite genre of manga (Japanese comic books) is shojo manga, which basically includes love stories or high school romance books. I've been reading shojo manga since I was in high school myself, and I just never stopped. Thank you again to the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book before the official release date!

And Yet, You Are So Sweet by Kujira Anan is a lovely and funny shojo manga about a shy girl, Maaya Kisaragi, who is rejected outright after she confesses her love to a boy at her cram school. To her horror, he posts about it on social media. She's bemoaning her woes in the school library when a handsome and popular boy, Chigira, overhears her. In a move that would only happen in a shojo manga, Chigira convinces Kisaragi to pretend to her one-sided feelings for him in order to get over the boy who rejected her. What follows is an adorable love story as Kisaragi "pretends" to have feelings for Chigira.

Kisaragi slowly realizes that she may have real feelings for Chigira, but how can she when he is so popular "out of her league"? Meanwhile, she seems oblivious to Chigira's true feelings and doesn't wonder about why he would offer to help her in the first place. Reading as these two overcome new obstacles is frustrating but in a good way that only good shojo manga can make you feel. Some highlights are the scene in the store, when they find matching plushies, and the scene in the subway when Chigira protects Maaya from the boy who rejected her.

Overall, And Yet, You Are So Sweet is a perfect, adorable shojo manga, and I highly recommend it for fans of all shojo manga like Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket. You'll be transported back to your high school days as you watch the hero and heroine blush, go on "dates," and confront their feelings for each other. If you enjoy love stories or manga in general, you won't regret checking out this book when it comes out tomorrow!

And Yet, You Are So Sweet is a rather sweet manga about a girl who gets rejected in a very nasty way and gets very unusual advice on how to mend her broken heart.
The story starts out quite nicely, and although I don't particularly resonate with any of the characters (at least not yet), I do root for them. Overall a very heart-felt story that I would recommend to fans of romance stories, I'll definitely be reading more volumes as they come out.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH to the publishing company, Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for providing me with a copy!!!

Yes this was cringe-y
Yes this was cliche
and Yes this made me roll my eyes at some moments

BUT THIS WAS ALSO JUST SO CUTE and SWOON WORTHY READ!

I just couldn’t help but get sucked in and read it in less than 30 minutes. This book got me hooked right from Chapter 1. I can already tell readers will be getting great character and relationship development as the series continues on!

I am happy to add this to my favourite manga pile. And I cannot wait for the second one!

What a lovely first volume! Poor Maaya confessed to her crush only for him to ridicule her on social media! Her bad luck doesn't end there, unfortunately. The most popular guy in her class, Chigira, overhears her mumbling to herself about the horror of her confession and proposes that she make HIM the center of her unrequited love. I will say, the story isn't 100% unpredictable, but I enjoyed it nevertheless! There are some really cute, heartwarming moments between Maaya and Chigira, and I'm curious and excited to see where this series goes!

I want to thank Netgalley, Kujira Anan, and Kodansha Comics for giving me a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Okay. Here's the thing, I don't read pure romance books anymore just because I simply not a fan of them now. But this book is making my heart melt. I am rooting for the two main characters, Chigira and Kisaragi. I really smiled everytime they have a romantic moment. The chemistry of their characters are well-balanced, since Chigira is a mysterious and reserved guy, while Kisaragi is the kind of girl who speaks her thoughts out loud without knowing it.

I also love the art style because it gives more beautiful addition to the ambience of the book. It was atmospheric and it made me reminisce of romance animes I watched in the past.

As for the plot, I think it was okay. I feel like it was just an average romance book. Nothing was really slow or fast. What I didn't like in this book is some aspect in the character of Kisaragi. What makes me roll my eyes everytime is when Kisaragi keeps saying "i'm not pretty!" or "i'll never look good!". It makes her character a little petty and whiney.

Overall, I rated this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. The plot is honestly just average and nothing really stands out with it, but I love the chemistry of the two main characters. I still enjoyed reading it because it really made my heart melt.

Title: And yet, you are so sweet
Author: Kujira Anan
Genre: manga, romance (shojo), contemporary.
Volume Number: Vol. 1
Publisher: Kodansha Comics
Publication date: 04/27/2021

This sweet and cute manga is about Maaya Kisaragi, a 16-year-old girl who just declared to her crush and unfortunately ended up being humiliated by him, for various reasons the most popular boy in school tells her that she should fall in love with him and well, this is how this story begins, focusing on their relationship and how Kisaragi grows up and deals with her problems.

Main characters

Our protagonist Kisaragi is dramatic in every expression of the word but for some reason, I don't hate it, it's clear that being a teenager it's all about being immature and in most cases with low self-esteem, but I'm dying to see how she will change little by little (if that happens). She is a kind, vibrant and fun young girl, I really like her character, and it's relatable (except being a “stalker”).

Instead, Chigira is a mysterious character in some way, I don't really think much about him because he doesn't talk much and he's not an expressive character but for the moment I like him. He is spontaneous and kind, I like his way of comforting Kisaragi and I look forward to hearing more from him.

They are both too cute together, they are literally humorous and cute, their scenes were too cute and entertaining. Especially given the situation they are in, I have my suspicions but I hope they end up together because they would make a very nice couple, I can't wait to read how their story continues.

Plot

The story is entertaining and fluid, I would say that the pace is medium although in some instances I feel that it goes fast, even so, it's not difficult to follow. The plot itself has a lot of potential, a fake relationship has a lot to offer and I hope the author will develop it, for the moment I really like it. I think what makes this story original is the fact that the hero asks our protagonist to have one-sided feelings for him, it really took me by surprise but that's what makes the plot fun.

Artstyle

The art is quite interesting, the faces are expressive, cute, and not much defined, while the body is long and thin. This anatomy is constant throughout the volume, except on some occasions where the characters are made smaller or without definition due to comedy. I really liked the panels and I feel that it supports the story very well, making it easier to understand and smoother.

The quality of the strokes seemed quite good and clean to me, however, the character design is quite basic but still the characters and objects look realistic. The background in general is well structured but not flashy, so it's easier to focus on the characters. The thought balloons are too many and which makes me upset because I felt that the story was not progressing due to the lack of dialogue.

There are really no important supporting characters, more than Kisaragi's friend, but she is kinda a recurring character at the moment. In general, it's a very nice and entertaining story, the manga is fast and fluid so anyone can read it, also did I mention that it is cute? Because, oh boy, I loved it, I definitely recommend it and I hope to read volume 2 soon.

Is this manga for you?
Perfect for: Lovers of cute, sweet stories, and funny heroines.
Do I recommend it? Yes.

Heroine: 7/10
Hero: 5/10
Romance: 8/10
Type of Relationship: F/M
Plot: 8/10

Oh my gooooosh!!! This! Is so! Cute!! Maya is such a sweetheart and I adore her and how earnest she is. I love a good fake relationship trope, and the second Chigira suggested she pretend to have a one-sided love for him I was completely sold on this manga. I wasn't expecting to so completely fall for the two of them as a couple. The shopping scene with the dog toys was my absolute favorite part, and I love seeing Maaya through Chigira-kun's eyes.

I can't wait to read the next volume of this series. I hope Maaya learns to see herself more and more the way Chigira seems to see her!

I will confess that I thought the story was a bit peculiar but I did enjoy it. I think any fan of high school romance manga will enjoy this because it is kind of cute and the artwork is good.

Maaya Kisaragi, is 16 years old and she finally plucks up courage to tell a boy she likes him. He rejects her, but the worst thing is that he ridicules her on social media. Maaya then decides that her love life is forever over but someone over hears her complaints about the situation.

Chigira-kun is probably the most popular boy at school and he suggests that if Maaya is going to have a one-sided crush on anyone, she should have one on him. Maaya, for some reason, thinks this is a great idea and decides to take him up on his offer. As Maaya tries to perfect her one sided relationship with Chigira-kun, the two of them become closer and soon become friends.

This is the first volume in the series and it will be interesting to see how it develops, especially as the two of them become closer and Maaya begins to attract the attention of another.

This is a good one for fans of high school manga romances.

And Yet, You Are So Sweet
Volume 1
Rating: 5 stars

And Yet, You Are So Sweet was a very cute story!! I really liked it and the pictures were very easy to follow.
After Maaya goes through a heartbreak, the school cutie decides to help her out. You can totally tell that he has feelings for her, but she's been so hurt badly that she's unaware that though she was not to her crush's liking, she could be to someone else.

I can't wait to read more!
