This made me weirdly nostalgic. I reminded me a lot of the types of books I would read when I was a child, especially with the art and the way this read like one long rhyming poem. There were many moments this book had me giggling, but I gotta say, the ending had me absolutely cackling out loud. This is exactly the kind of book I'd want to read to kids, because I know they'd love it and I wouldn't mind reading it over and over again

A cute and delightful book about a boy who badly wants a dog, only that things don't go his way... I really enjoyed the rhymes and the vibrant illustrations. More importantly, I like how the book sends out a positive message about responsible pet ownership e.g. the boy does research about dogs and his parents do not impulsively cater to his desires. Would have preferred a more resolute ending, but overall this was a fun read!

This is a fun book and a delight for all the kids who love dogs and beg parents to have one.
It's a quick read and entertains the little readers for sure.

The illustrations are vivid and beautiful.

This book is a cute little romp about the age old "child asking if they can have a dog". While the ending of the story didn't sit quite right with me, I overall enjoyed the book.

A funny little book, in poetry form and with illustrations, about a young boy who tries to convince his parents to get a dog, and the trouble he gets while doing it. It's quite easy to read, the rhymes are funny, the story is cute, and the colours really pop. I generally like the illustrations, although they can look a bit too simple or messy at times. That said, this feels like the perfect bedtime story for a kid looking for something funny to read.

This was a fun book! I love the illustrations and the colour palette. I like how smartly silly it was, and the jokes made me giggle. I'm sure every child can relate to this boy wanting a dog and trying to convince his parents. This will be reread until there is a dog in the house.

Thanks to NetGalley and Warren Publishing for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review!
With a melodious rhyme scheme and bright, beautiful colors, Could I Please Have a Dog? tells the story of a young child who just really, really wants a dog. A day of mayhem and a series of mishaps just intensifies the main character's desire for a canine companion, despite a series of rejections from their parents. Could I Please Have a Dog? is hilarious, beautifully illustrated, and an absolute joy to read aloud. Just be prepared to answer when your child asks you- "could I PLEASE have a dog???"
I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a good laugh!

This book is not for me sorry. I felt the writing confusing and rather jumpy. I understood the message is wanted to get out but I don't feel like that was shown in the book.

Somewhat ridiculous but highly entertaining. The rhymes were well-done and had a great pace throughout. The ending was not what I expected but it made me laugh.

This is a hilarious story of a child who wishes for a dog. It made me laugh out loud. The meter is solid. The ending circles back to the beginning. The illustrations are well done. This is a book children will ask to read again and again.

Do you remember your first pet?
🐶🐱🐹🐰🦎🐦

I think I was about 4 or so. I had a Crocker Spaniel named Patches. I used to put him in my little plastic shopping cart and push him around.

I was given this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. And let me just tell you... It was so adorable!
The rhyme scheme was cute and creative and I was hooked from page one. The book follows a small boy as he talks about convincing his parents to let him get a dog and all the mishaps that come along with it. The illustrations were catchy and I found myself reminiscing about all the dogs I've had over the years.
This is a book I would not hesitate to add to my personal collection.

This was such a clever, fun children’s book!

I absolutely love dogs, so to find this poetry about dogs was a delight.

The illustration was perfect for the poetry. The rhyming and accidental animal finds were creative and funny.

This is an excellent children’s book!

This book was so sweet! I loved the story, and I was giggling out loud at some of the moments. I loved the art style. This book was everything I needed: lighthearted, funny, and a little over dramatic. I would 100% read this to the kids in my life.

This rhythm book looks standout with it is simplicity. In here the MC desperate want dog companion to lit up his daily life. I need stronger plot on the storyline and the happier end. At least I want see the MC get real dog.

I loved the illustrations and rhymes of this book! But I was confused about the plot. There was no actual dogs! You would think it would’ve at least ended with one!

This book was sweet a tad bonkers!
I loved the rhymes within the book, and the illustrations were unique. But the plot was just a bit mad!
Who'd have thought that a book called 'could i please have a dog?' would include a visit to the hospital and a bath with tomatoes?!

Just OK.

This is me at the moment.

And yes, I have been a adult for years but I live with my parents at the moment and I need their permission to keep and raise a dog. But then my mom's like, "you better not."

Who am I to argue.

But then I can relate so much with such stories. And my heart is still aching for a GSD. Our two German Shepherds passed away while I was away from home and it hurt bad. I miss them and I want a canine member asap.

Better convince my parents soon otherwise I might bring in a skunk or a squirrel like in this story!

Love the story and the illustrations.

The parents better let the boy know what's a dog and give him one. Because I know what he's feeling.

Thank you Authors and the publisher for this advance reading copy.

"Could I Please Have a Dog?" is an adorable story about a little boy who wants badly to get a pet dog, only to find that convincing his parents might not be easy and taking matters into his own hands might not work out as well as he hopes.

The book is short, sweet, and charming. The illustrations are adorable, and surely almost every kid can relate to begging your parents for a pet they seem determined not to get. It's also silly and fantastical, told in a charming rhyming structure and filled with jokes sure to delight kids and parents alike.

Overall a delightful read, and bonus, it doesn't end with the acquisition of a dog, heading off the inevitable "But then why can't I have a dog?" conversation sure to follow such an ending.
