Sweet Cherry Publishing are know gor their wonderful children's books as they're charming and engaging for the reader. Herriot, the Caretaker Mouse (part one in the Magic Animal Café series) by Stella Tarakson, is no exception.

What child wouldn't want to read about talking animals, a nest of mice led by Herriot, who are guardians of an abandoned property and a bit of mystery?

There's also a cat café on the way, and whilst not my thing? My teenagers absolutely love the one near where we live, so I know it will appeal to anyone who loves cats. (I will say I do, I just get pestered enough by my own three cats, without going out to have a cat in my way!)

This story is one that's perfect for a bedtime read. However, I do want you to know that it ends on a cliffhanger, so perhaps ensure you have the sequel ready to go if you're not ready for protest from under a duvet!

I wonder what will happen next? Also.. I just realised that the mouse might be named after famed Yorkshire vet, James Herriot.

This is the first in a new children’s series. It has beautiful illustrations and children will love it. So heartwarming

I really enjoyed reading this children's book, which is part 1 of a story about a little girl called Ellie, and Her Mum, who have moved to a new building, and will soon be opening a cat cafe. They have eight cats who will be in the cafe. Some new neighbours called The Andersons come to live next to them, and one of them is a little boy called Blake, who has a dog called Choccy. Ellie and Blake have a little magical adventure together with an old phone and a host of mice who live in the building. All of the animals are so cute, and I loved reading about them. The story is fun and heartwarming, and I look forward to finding out what happens in part 2!

4☆ A Fun Middle Grade Book

Herriot the Caretaker Mouse is a fun new middle grade series that already I can sense its going to be a great series.
I do however want to point out it does end on a cliffhanger. So now I'm even more eager to read the next installment!

This book has a magical feel about it and it really ties in nicely with the story.
It had nice short chapters but was a quick read, had lovely illustrations and some really quirky loveable characters. Such as Herriot the 🐁 Mouse Caretaker and not forgetting Choccy the adorable Puppy Labrador.

I think young readers are going to Love this book. There's secret treasure, Cheeky Animals, a lil Adventure and Mischief and the illustrations bring the story to life.
Plus the idea of a Cat Cafe sounds Amazing! So much Fun!
I don't want to give anything away as it will ruin the secret twist.
Now all that's left to do is wait to see what happens next!

Herriot the Caretaker Mouse is an excellent book for children and animal lovers. Ellie is a young girl who has started a cat cafe with her mom. There is much to do, like sharing a house with the Andersons. Ellie is not keen on this idea, but when she discovers an old telephone and finds out about a mouse who wants to get rid of them, they must work together.

I love this book and would definitely rate it five stars!

A delightful book for younger readers, featuring two children who find an old phone which enables them to talk to animals around them. This will make a great addition to titles for animal lovers and is aimed at those who are newly confident readers

Herriot the Caretaker Mouse is the first book in an amazing, magical book series for children called Magical Animal Cafe.
Ellie and her mum have moved into an old commercial building and are living above what will become their own little cat café on the ground floor. There's lots to do in getting the place prepared and up and running. When their neighbours move in Ellie soon makes friends with their son Blake who has a chocolate lad called Choccy.
Ellie isn't sure about Choccy living there as she and her mum own lots of cats (with really cool names- named after composers).
After playing with an old telephone they find, they can suddenly speak to animals and meet the caretaker mouse who looks after the building.
The book ends of a cliff hanger which I loved as its left me desperate to find out what will happen next!
This book is sure to be a hit with its target audience and the illustrations are really lovely through the book.
If you love animals, cats, dogs or even cat cafes - this book is a must for you!!

The illustrations in the book are very cute and help the story come to life, the story was interesting (the start of setting up a cat cafe, and meeting the occupants of the building) but only downside is the book abruptly stops that i though the E-ARC i had been provided was missing pages. For that reason i can't give it higher than 4 stars. I understand its to be a series but just cutting the story is what lets the book down as im not sure how it can flow into the next book.

Herriot the caretaker mouse it's quite a fun and easy read for little kids, full of animals that can talk. Yes, you heard right, they can talk. It was enjoyable, but also it didn't have anything special to it. I have to admit, the final cliffhanger looks promissing for a second instalment in the series.

A delightful and engaging read with beautiful illustrations and content. I loved the ease with which I could read this book. It was fun, exciting and had a touch of mystery to keep me turning those pages.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to check out the other books in the series haha.

Herriot the Caretaker Mouse by Stella Tarakson is the first book in the Magic Animal Cafe series. It focuses on Ellie, who has just moved to a new house with her mom and could probably imagine more beautiful and interesting places than her current residence. On top of everything, she has to put up with new tenants, a dog and loads of old stuff popping up everywhere. An old telephone is quickly going to change her initial attitude towards this new chapter in her life...

I enjoyed this rather quick read of 120 pages because of a) the cute story and b) the distinction made between the animals‘ personalities. The way the book ended is a bit abrupt but definitely makes you want to know how the story continues.
I would have liked to read more about the altered perception Ellie seems to develop of her new home based on her experience with her cats, the initially unwanted dog and a considerably large mouse family in the course of the story. However, the overall concept seems appealing to the target audience.

The writing style is easy to understand and fits the adequate storyline of a children’s book.
