I'm a bit divided on this book

Pros:
- The history of paper and papercraft was FASCINATING
- The tips on papercraft basics were well-written

Cons:
- I'm really uncomfortable with the fact that one set of designers featured were CHILD CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES. This is so gross for so many reasons but the picture of a named white child surrounded by unidentified Black people is disturbing and it was hard to be invested in the book after this egregious racism.
- I felt the pattern ideas were not nearly as interesting as the history was. They seemed more like practicing concepts versus actual finished pieces people would want to create.

The Art of Papercut by Helen Hiebert is a cute and easy to follow crafts. This book takes you through a step by step procress of crafting to make lovely and unique items. There are many techniques that I didn't know and had helpful visuals to follow. This is a fun and great book for beginners and advanced crafts who will have fun.

Cute, well-designed and easy to follow. I love crafts, but when it gets fiddly i definitely get stressed! Luckily this book us excellent, taking you step-by-stepnthrough the process of crafting to make some beautiful and unique items. We all had a go, and whilst it definitely takes practice to get perfect- or as near as we can get, the book is excellent!!

This was a beautiful book! There are many techniques I didn't already know with helpful visuals. The accompanying descriptions are fun and passionate, worth reading the introductory chapters. This is relatively short and I was surprised there weren't templates or projects for cards or other paper-crafting staples. There were several more art-installation pieces, so this definitely seems like a more advanced crafting book!

A nice simple guide to learning papercraft techniques. Could definitely see fellow librarians using this book to create east craft programming for events.

A great book for beginners with nice tips and resources. It is not only tips about craft but also about paper in general. There are clear directions which really helps follow through.

An inspiring book with great photos and ideas to keep you busy. Good material and tool lists and discussion on paper types

Beautiful and inspiring, this book is full of origami projects to help you work with paper and do pretty things at home. My favorite project is the Pop-up Dragonfly followed by the Swirling flower. I was excited to read through this book, as a practicing bookbinder and paper engineer.

This book is absolutely PACKED full of paper information - it's a true wealth of information about paper for the paper artist or any artist who works with paper.

Not only that, but anyone worth their weight in paper knows that the artists that Hiebert incorporates into this book (including herself!) are hands-down the best of the best in the world of paper art, ensuring this book as a treasure and must-have for your art book collection. Hiebert walks the reader through different projects and techniques that may be refreshers for some, or new for others, but still mainstays for all. It's not often that I am glued to every single page of an art book when I first open one, but I couldn't put this one down; it was full of information and the photographs that were paired with the techniques illustrated them perfectly. I don't own a lot of papercrafting books, but this one I definitely purchased.

My son recently picked up the hobby of origami after learning it from another kid at school. I have tried origami and I am just not a fan, but I do love paper and I want to do crafts with my son. My mom uses it in crafts and I started collecting paper she's not using anymore, so I needed to find something to do with all of it, and this book helped a lot, and my son was also interested in the history section, and how to use his origami paper for other things. It's a fun book!

I admire the amount of detail Hiebert included in this book. As an avid paper crafter, I have learned that I just prefer video tutorials over images with written directions, so while the content in this book is interesting and fun, I likely will not try a lot of the activities due to my own difficulty following along. I recommend this book for beginner crafters or intermediate crafters looking to explore a new medium.

This is a wonderful and comprehensive book. It offers a history and instruction. It includes high art installations and crafts that a novice can accomplish. You can read it from cover to cover like I did or focus on the sections that interest you. Buy it or request a purchase at your library. It is a worthwhile purchase.

The Art of Papercraft, by Helen Hiebert, really gives what it promises in its title.
It is a book that truly encourages to revere paper as a form and as a medium as well.

The author gives an extensive history and understanding of what paper is, at first. I think, while the book is filled with loads of interesting ways to craft and make with paper, this is really central to its value. I am of the firm belief that familiarizing yourself with everything that is related to a certain object you are working with, really getting its context, is immensely important, and that is what the author provides in her thorough, yet succint explanation as an introduction.

The book comprises a myriad ways one can work with paper, in terms of arts and crafts, most it rather simple to go forth with. I am an architect, so I worked with paper a lot when model-making for my assignments, so perhaps that experience also enables me to gauge these crafts as simple. However, simple must be cleraly stated as simple-to-follow, because one can create a number of exquisite decor and gifting projects with these skills too.

This book was the most informative narration on papercrafting that I've ever seen. It was educational and inspiring, from an author who you can tell by every word is passionate about the craft.

It includes a comprehensive history of papermaking, how versatile a fiber it is and all the different uses it can have, from everyday writing paper to clothing and art.

The author details an informative journey but also an overview, from needed materials to methods, and for a huge variety of projects, with step-by-step pictures or diagrams accompaning them all. Some are simple, while others are more complex and can elevate your practice into creating art. Some of the project categories include quilling, seeding, folding, cutting, origami and papermaking, etc.

I found the history very interesting, as well as the process of creating your own paper and thread. The book is filled with lovely photos of glorious works of paper art, as well as the ones detailing the projects.

I won't lie; some of those projects I found intimidating for a beginner to approach, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't attempt to try a few of the simpler ones at some point in time.

The book overall left me with a much deeper appreciation of paper and all the wondrous things it can create.

Would you like to learn a bit more about papercrafting besides just "cut here" and "fold there"? This is the book for you! Note: you'll also learn where to cut and fold, but you get the idea lol! There are lots of fun projects interspersed with profiles of paper artists featured in the book. The projects take the reader through a variety of techniques and skill levels, and the instructions are clear and well-photographed, making it easy to learn and improve one's skills. There's a visual guide section discussing ways to make your own paper, how to decorate paper, and fastening/connection methods. The last methods mentioned are shown in the book, but I understand not showing all the papermaking and decorating techniques, as the author does have a separate book on that. Hiebert includes a nice chonky resources list of suppliers, books, and where to find more on the artists featured in the book, and all the templates for the projects. While I think this is a fine book for beginners, to me it feels most suitable to those who've had some experience with papercrafting and want to learn more. I'd say this is a book anyone interested in papercraft should have on their shelf.

So interesting! I was a scrapbooker for years. I attempted making my own cards but didn't take it too far. I have missed working with paper and making pretty things. This book was a nice fix and I hope to try some of the activities. Recommended for everyone. So many beautiful projects. I do want to get better and making personalized cards. I will get a copy for the classroom because everyone enjoys arts and crafts on different levels.

Didn't capture my attention and engagement. Interested in trying it again though and hopefully it will take.

I love crafting, particularly origami and other paper crafts and so I knew that I was going to love this book before I'd even opened the first page. This book gives you instructions for 40 different crafts, all made from one sheet of paper. I was definitely not disappointed with this little gem. However, I would recommend the book over the ebook version.
