This book is like a full semester course on paper and paper folding. Not your ordinary origami book. It goes into depth about not only the types of paper but the types of glues and supplies used for paper folding projects. There are so many unique and creative ideas I can’t wait to try them all, plus when necessary, the templates are all provided as well. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get into paper crafting.

I love making my own cards, so this is a great book for me.

Lots of beautiful patterns and good information, but I wish there were more images showing how the author displays her artwork or uses it as decor. As beautiful as these patterns are, I'm not sure I would know what to do with my finished project, much the same way I don't know what to do with the mass amounts of artwork that my children bring home from school....

This book is amazing the paper crafts are absolutely stunning. I was incredibly impressed by how detailed this book is it covers a variety of mediums and styles.

If you love paper crafting or if you have a crafter in mind for a gift this book is perfect it will appeal to new crafters and experts alike.

This book is very well written and thought out with clear and easy to follow instructions.

The book has several categories that have projects for the novice and experts alike. This book also had a wonderful and fascinating history of papermaking and I loved reading about it.

I love that not only are there clear easy to understand instructions to the projects. The book lists a variety of resources on where to buy materials in the back of the book.

Litterally one of the best books I have seen on papercrafting at any level. This book is simply fantastic and I highly recommend it.

Today we have two titles, two publishers, one roundup worth reading. Here we go:
First up, The Art of Paper Craft, a Storey Publishing title by Helen Hiebert. We all have our passions, and this author’s mastered one of the most impressive art forms I’ve seen in a while. Paper art. Sounds cheesy? No way.
Years ago, Hiebert acquired a century-old paper-making mold used in the day when specialized artisans made the writing tools one sheet at a time. Hiebert was fascinated by this age-old process and could not help but dip her hands into the mushy liquid past and feel first-hand what it was like to spend hours and days creating a simple sheet of paper. From that point, she was in love with the intricate possibilities that arose for paper-making art. And clearly, she is a master at working with a unique art form.
This colorful, mind-twisting book is an origami lover’s dream, a fine paper artist’s ode to her inner beauty. I’m so impressed.
Yes. There are pages of beautiful origami instructions. Hiebert features that art in Chapter Four. But this 300-plus love affair with paper crafting encompasses so much more.
Hiebert treats us to full-color renditions of her paper-thin fine art, beautifully photographed and presented for all of us to admire. Like a cookbook, this author shares the necessary tools, techniques, and methods for creating paperwork masterpieces. Then she instructs, informs, and inspires.
I have to admit, Hiebert’s ability to create the colorful world of art with paper amazes me. It’s like viewing a watercolor painting on a piece of paper or an intricate modern art sculpture you could squash with two hands. Even if you are not a paper nut, which I am not, this book is worth considering. Sometimes, we all need a new passion, right?
Next up, Invitation to Draw: 99 Drawing Prompts Designed to Inspire Kids’ Creativity by Jean Van’t Hul is a Roost Books title that is grandchild approved.
Maybe I like these children’s art books because my grandchildren are perfect for discovering the art world. Or, it could be that I am a perpetual child who loves the elementary joy of creating art with pencil and paper. Whichever it is, this time-munching book is the perfect anecdote to a miserably hot afternoon that keeps our inner artists cooped up in an air-conditioned room.
Invitation to Draw contains all the regular stuff: The notice that prompts are not a substitute for free drawing, the idea that friends can copy the book, and instructions about creating future drawing prompts. This is a title that would lend itself well to a younger audience of artists. Kids between six and nine would enjoy finishing the design started on many of these pages.
But I have to say that this title has some more complicated line and shape art prompts that would be good for older kids between 10 and 12 years old. Heck, I remember drawing some of these things myself, but, perhaps embarrassingly, I was in high school, NOT paying attention to algebra. This 200-page playbook could get as complicated or straightforward as an artist would like it to be.
The more I look at this title, the more I want it for myself. Hey, where’s my unlimited budget and my Amazon account?

The Art of Papercraft is a beautifully detailed book on all aspects of paper crafting and the mediums used. I think this book would appeal to both new and experienced paper crafters, as it has a great level of detail but the instructions are easy to follow and clearly broken down. It has an excellent range of projects divided into neat categories, each containing a great range of easy and more intricate projects to complete. Templates are provided when required, and the author provided an excellent source of sites to get materials from at the end of the book.

As an intermediate level paper crafter with a cricut machine, I really enjoyed the first half of the book where she details more about the history of paper and paper crafting. This added a bit of depth to the book and really elevated it from something i would just flick through and put down in five minutes to something that grabbed my attention and really taught me how to work best with my materials.

Overall I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in paper crafts at any level, it was a really interesting read and I will really enjoy making all the projects in the book!

This is a well photographed and illustrated book with lots of paper projects like origami and paper cutting. Some patterns are provided. There is lots of info on glues and such. I wasn't particularly inspired by any of them but I'm not a big paper crafter. They are a bit advanced, not really something kids can easily do. It'll be a great book for people who enjoy paper crafting.

This is a beautiful books with lots of interesting paper projects. Some are simple to do and others a bit more complicated. Definitely not for a young child without assistance. Perhaps not even for an adult who is not determined!

Step by step instructions are given with diagrams and/or pictures. Some of them could be clearer and more detailed perhaps because I found that I couldn't make the sailboat envelope even on my second try. With perseverance and determination, I'm sure I will get it sooner or later!

Other designs I cannot wait to try out are the one-sheet books, the pop-up alphabets and the mini tunnel book. I loved the section on fasterners and connections.

I liked that artists who designed the projects are featured. And I enjoyed looking at all the supplies needed. I didn't know konnyaku which I know as a food can also be used in paper crafts. I will have to look that up as I think I have some in my pantry!

All in all, a very interesting and worthwhile book for people who love paper crafts.

Who would of thought you could do so much with a simple piece of paper with the help of Helen Hiebert you can make some interesting pieces, The art of papercraft starts with a small history of paper and some of Ms Hieberts paper creations and how to pick the best paper by testing paper grain and how to understand weight etc then the rest of the book is divided into different projects with clear and illustrated chapters.
My only personal gripe would be that alot of the designs within are very sculptural so for me they wuld have a limited use but as a keen cardmaker there was a few ideas like the pop up alphabet, tunnel frame and the slice heart designs for example are great for card making and all the projets are easy to follow.

The Art Of Papercraft is great for anyone interested in paper arts, and provides good insight into techniques, background and history of papercraft. From making and designing the paper itself, to creating origami and other designs and type of craft with paper, there are good tips and directions to try new and old things. Some ideas will remind you of schooldays, to other more innovative ways with paper; it would appeal to adults and also to families, who can use some of the ideas with children of all ages.

My only criticism is that in this day and age of digital tuition and example videos online, the written directions can seem clumpy and hard to follow. But a quick search on YouTube alongside this book is a good idea for those needing more visual guidance. You would be able to find a workaround in some way for most projects by doing this I think. By the same token. I believe this would work better as a physical book rather than on kindle as a purchase.

I think there are 2 types of people who would be interested in the Art of Papercraft by Helen Hiebert.

The first are those who are interested in the history of papercrafting, and the origins of the different techniques. This book goes into a lot of detail on both along with how the different types of paper are made. The photos showing the original works are clear and interesting, but I found this part of the book far too wordy for my taste, as I fall into the second category.

The other type of reader (like me) are the doers, we want to learn a new technique and Helen doesn't disappoint. From paper cutting, pop ups, quilling and origami its all there (but surprisingly not teabag folding?). Each project starts with a short paragraph about its origin, just enough, but not to much, and then gives both step by step pictures AND clear written instructions, which makes a nice change.

There is a chapter dedicated to all the different tools and adhesives that are needed, with advice on what to use with which paper.

At the end the templates are clearly reproduced, making them easy to photocopy or trace.

Overall an excellent book for any papercrafter.

I loved the visual style of the book and the design of it was beautiful. The step by step pictures were really easy to follow and I loved the inclusion of the art and artists who inspired the various projects. There was a good mix of origami style folding projects and papercutting to create sculptures and cards. There was a lot of information contained in this book.

I wanted to learn a new craft for a longtime now and The Art of Papercraft was a fabulous guide. Helen Hiebert teaches you how to make beautiful items with papers you can't imagine. Paper can be a magical medium that is more creative than one thinks.

The Art of Papercraft by Helen Hiebert is absolutely full to the brim of wonderful ideas for crafts that involve paper. Each craft has detailed instructions, photos and information about the artist who has designed the craft. The photos are clear and look great.

This book is for the creative kind who not only love to make, but to understand the core of what is being made. This book breaks it down to the core level of making your own paper and then what to do with it. I loved the very detailed instructions as well as the complimenting real-life artwork within this book.

The Art of Papercraft is full of wonderful projects. Some of the instructions look a bit difficult to follow. However, most interesting is the material at the beginning which describes the creation of paper and its history. Fascinating!

The Art of Papercraft is a gorgeous book. It outlines the history of paper as an artistic medium and gives lots of inspirational ideas for how to complete paper projects at home. I did feel , as I often do with craft books, that a lot is lost in ebook versions, and that it would be much richer as a real book with coloured illustrations. But thank you to the publishers and to Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this beautiful book and I will use it as a springboard o discover more about the craft.

The Art of Papercraft. An interesting and perfect addition for the patrons at our library. I can’t wait to try some of the projects myself.
