I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I was thrilled to be approved for a copy of this book, it's not often I'll read a detective thriller but when I read the description of this book I knew I'd really enjoy it and I did just that.

I read it within two days I could not put it down!

A big thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book.

I started to read this book this morning and finished it this evening. It is a truly 'on the edge of your seat' story. Once more, Morgan gets herself into all kinds of scrapes as she searches for a killer. I love the characters in this book. Will Ben and Morgan ever become an item? Or will they just remain good friends besides work mates? I can't wait for the next book in this series.

THE HIDING PLACE is the third book in a police procedural series featuring Detective Morgan Brookes by Helen Phifer. I’ve read a few of Helen Phifer’s books and this the third book in the series is a definite winner! Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the books in order to get a full history. This is my review of The Hiding Place.

The books in the Detective Morgan Brookes Series:
BOOK 1-ONE LEFT ALIVE
BOOK 2-THE KILLER’S GIRL
BOOK 3-THE HIDING PLACE
BOOK 4-FIRST GIRL TO DIE
BOOK 5-FIND THE GIRL

Nine-year-old Charlie Standish lived in a small town with her mother, Amanda, who was recently divorced from her ex, Brett Mosley who now lived with his rich girlfriend Phillipa Summers. Charlie preferred to live with her mum because she could play outside, but when she went to her dads the kids were mean and no one ever wandered up and down Pippa’s Street.

Charlie’s mum left her alone to go to a friend’s house, while Charlie was outside waiting for her dad to pick her up. But there was a change in plans, and Brett never showed up. When Amanda came back a few hours later after much wine she fell asleep without checking on Charlie.

DC Morgan Brookes soon receives a call regarding a nine-year-old child missing. DC Morgan Brookes and her superior DS Ben Matthews lead the frantic search for the little girl, but little Charlie seems to have vanished into thin air. The police fear that Charlie had been abducted.

But chasing up a lead at Charlie’s school, Morgan is chilled to learn that this isn’t the first time a child has gone missing on this street. Another girl disappeared fifteen years ago, and Morgan is the only one who thinks the cases could be related. But in the moment that she takes her eye off Charlie’s case to investigate the link between the two girls, another child, Macy, goes missing. The missing girls all lived close to each other so Morgan is sure that someone knows something.

This is a fast-paced crime thriller with intriguing characters with a plot filled with twists and turns. I can only hope in the future that Morgan and Ben become romantically involved.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

The Hiding Place is the third instalment in the Det Morgan Brookes series. Charlie Standish, a 9 year old girl goes missing, her mother having left her at home alone, she decides to go buy a bar of chocolate taking the laneway as a cut through, she didn’t hear them creep up on her… Morgan and DS Matthews are called to investigate, what turns into a search for a missing girl soon ends up as a search for a killer. When another girl, Macy goes missing, Morgan is even more determined, she will not let another little girl die on her watch. Another fantastic instalment of what can only be described as a brilliant series thus far, a great detective series told from many points of view to really keep you captivated, plenty of twists along the way, although I figured out the who, I hadn’t figure out the why, thrilling read.

The Hiding Place by Helen Phifer

The little girl stepped into the dark alleyway, not seeing the silent figure following her.

This is the third book featuring Detective Constable Morgan Brookes. I enjoyed the first two books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Morgan and her boss, Detective Sergeant Ben Matthews are a a ceremony to receive a commendation for their last case when they learn that a local nine year old girl Charlie, has gone missing. Her mother had left her and gone out for the night and hadn’t realised that Charlie was missing until the next morning. She thought that maybe her estranged husband had picked Charlie up but that wasn’t the case, Morgan and her team wonder if she had run away but are devastated when her body is found with severe head injuries. As they continue their investigations another young girl Macy, goes missing and they realise that both girls lived in the same street as another young girl who went missing fifteen years ago. Is there a connection and are they looking for a child abductor? One again Morgan acts independently, following up on a hunch that her superiors disagree with. Can she find Megan in time? This story is full of drama, tension and suspense and is a riveting read, I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

One of my favourite authors has hit it out of the park again. I adore anything Helen Phifer writes and this was no exception. Great piece of writing that kept me entertained and engaged enough to read the book in one sitting. Absolutely loved it, a big fat 5 stars.

I really enjoyed the previous 2 installments of this series but this one just wasn’t as good. I think I mainly struggled with the fact that the killer is very obvious from the beginning and it’s frustrating that the police can’t seem to work it out. There was also a lot more about the characters' personal lives which took away from the story. I’m also not a fan of the one superhero cop goes off and solves the case on her own trope. That being said this is still a good easy read crime series and I do enjoy the main characters. This one just wasn’t as good as the other two. I would definitely still read any further additions though.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

When one child disappeared and the cops had no suspects or clues, Megan knew she had to work hard to find the perp who was responsible for taking Macy. The characters were etched well, the suspense was good, not as much as I wanted. and the story could be read easily. I didn't remember much from the earlier books, so this worked as a standalone. A solid police procedural

The Hiding Place Helen Phifer is the third book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series and this is a fantastic set of books and a must read if you have not read any of this series.
This is a very difficult case for Detective Morgan Brookes, this time it involves a young child called Charlotte Standish who is nine years old, goes missing from her street in the small town of Rydale Falls, her hysterical mother, Amanda, reports her missing.
There's no time can be wasted Charlie has to be found. Detective Morgan Brookes leads a frantic search for the young girl, but little Charlie seems to have vanished into thin air no one has seen a thing. WoW!

Will Detective Morgan Brookes and her team find Charlie before it's too late?

What another brilliant book that will have you hooked! Looking forward to four in this great series.

Big Thank you to Netgalley, bookature publishers and of course the Brilliant Helen Phifer for the digital advanced copy of the hiding place in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development. Girls are going missing one by one. Who is taking them and will they be found in time? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Trigger warning: this book deals with child murder
Nine year old Charlie is left alone playing in the street when she vanishes. Sadly she is found dead soon afterwards. Then another girl Macy disappears and the police face a race against time to find her. Police detective Morgan Brookes  and her sergeant Ben Matthews are determined to bring her home safely...
The Hiding Place is a tense and engaging police thriller, the third book in the Morgan Brookes series. I have previously reviewed One Left Alive and The Killer's Girl. There are mentions of events in previous books, particularly relating to Morgan's family life but no big spoilers.
I love the main two characters Morgan and Ben. they have a lovely relationship with each other as well as natural feeling banter with their colleagues. Morgan and Ben continue to have a romantic frisson but in this book she embarks upon a relationship with a journalist. Big warning bells sounded! Ben is deeply concerned and instantly distrusts Fin but is he jealous and not thinking straight? Or is he right and Morgan is being duped?
The case itself is deeply unpleasant. An abduction and death of a child is hideous but handled sensitively by the author. The police and forensic team are devastated by the work they must carry out. The autopsy scene is difficult to read due to the emotion of the characters as well as the appalling situation.
Third person narrative is used throughout which gives us insight into multiple perspectives including Morgan, Ben and missing girl Macy. Once again Morgan acts independently, following up on a hunch that her superiors disagree with. There are not a whole host of suspects which made it quite easy to guess the murderer so the enjoyment was in watching the action unfold.
The Hiding Place was a very enjoyable police procedural and thriller.

The Hiding Place by Helen Phifer is the third book in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. I enjoyed the two previous titles and was a fan of the young, rookie detective who earned a place in a team with very experienced officers.

This was a good, solid read. It was a complex case as the detectives seemed to have only one real suspect (who they mercilessly hounded). Whilst, I enjoyed the investigations in the first two books in this series. I felt like the investigation took a bit of a back seat to the cop’s personal lives in this installment. Maybe my frustration came from having sussed out the Perp’s identity quite early in the story and hence not understanding why it was so hard for the detectives. I have also never been a fan of the ‘one detective solves the case alone’ trope which was strong in this one.

This installment is not my favorite in the series. However, I still like the team of detectives and can’t wait to catch up with them in the next case. If interested in this series, please read other reviews as I am definitely in the minority.
