A tad slow and convoluted. I really struggled to get into this one as I just did not care for the main character at all.

The local postman has been found dead, although it seems accidental his wife believes there’s more to it. She asks the local vicar’s daughter to look into it, which she does with the help of an American airman.

There are some strangely formal uses of language, such as referring to a bike as a conveyance. I found the repeated use of the word “companion” (when Anna the Vicar’s daughter was with someone else) quite irritating. As well as the way that the characters were referred to using a description (American/old man/constable). I really wanted to like this book, I enjoy a murder-mystery, but I just didn’t like the writing style. I found it a slog to read.

A brilliant story of a lady called Anna who is the vicar's daughter who is literally run off her feet by a handsome young American lieutenant while she is investigating a so called accident.
Anna and Eddie team up because something doesn't seem right about the accident and Anna is very persuasive in her quest.
The police rule accident, Anna and Eddie suggest otherwise and dig deeper into the situation for another accident to occur as they are getting closer to the truth.
Wonderfully written and it draws you in from the start, loved the characters and the storyline uncovering blackmarketing, gambling and murder along the way
