The previous book in this series (How to be a Hero) was a lot of fun, so I decided to continue the series with The Land of Lost Things.

It was very enjoyable to return the the viking universe, and go adventuring with viking Whetstone and valkyrie in training Lotta again. This was another excellent romp, and our heroes come up again some old enemies, and some new ones. This time, they visit Hel (both the place and the god). There are a good few humorous moments, and the plot is well paced.

The illustrations by Katie Kear were just as excellent as last time - they are lively and convey a real sense of what is happening in the story.

This book was a fun adventure, suitable for children and adults alike. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the How to be a Hero series and was therefore delighted to see Land of Lost Things drop so soon after the release of the first book.

Even from reading the first few lines, it was clear that Land of Lost Things had retained all of the charm of its predecessor: it was witty, well-written and very tongue in cheek.

The story follows unlikely hero Whetstone on his quest to find his father, alongside his friend, trainee Valkyrie Lotta. With Loki on their tails, will they manage to outwit the prankster or will they find themselves ‘lost’ forever?

Cat Weldon has struck gold with this series. She is a fresh voice and I love her style of writing. The How to be a Hero books are fast-paced, genuinely funny and full of heart. I love the Norse setting and think it would be a perfect book to read alongside any study of Vikings. My class absolutely loved the first book and I know they’ll enjoy the second just as much. I very much look forward to delving even further into the Tree of Life with the next instalment. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
