Puzzling idea - over-repetitive and isn't 'fun' for a Campbell flap book.

This was very different to the usual Campbell, his Buster series, the Dear Zoo concept. Yes, it's still a lift-the-flap book, and just as beautifully illustrated as ever. With wonderful animals.

But every page has the same text, about needing to look after animals better. Well, the target market won't really understand this concept, and there is no explanation (as the readers are going to be toddlers).

Each flap is covered by an empty scene, with the animals underneath, it doesn't really encourage a child to 'search' for something missing or anticipate what might be underneath, not like his other titles where there is an element of surprise.

You can talk to children about habitats (camels in the desert etc), but the interaction of "I love tigers! I would look after them. Wouldn't you?" doesn't really inspire entertained participation.

The ending as well, the whales are apparently thriving because of 'kind people'... don't these people also do the same for the other species? It makes it sound as though this endangered species is actually one not to worry about. Confusing.

I always love a Campbell book, but this one is tedious to read aloud and I don't see children rushing to lift the flaps on multiple re-reads the way the will with his back catalogue.

For ages 2-5.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.

A fabulous board book with an introduction to wild animals and conservation. With the familiarity of Dear Zoo this will not disappoint.
A simple story about some of the more familiar endangered wild animals with lift the flaps for little ones

Another great book from Rod Campbell that could be shared after reading Dear Zoo. This book with it's repetitive text and big flaps, focuses on endangered animals and how we can help to take care of them. Although more wordy than Dear Zoo, the repetitive nature of the text will be easy for children to pick up and join in with and older children may be able to adapt the text to create their own version as part of a topic on protecting animals.

A charming book with an important message.

This book is aimed at very young children and starts to broach a very important subject in an appropriate manner.

The illustrations are along the same colourful and simple lines as previous titles from this author.

Many thanks to the author and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This is another brilliant book by Rod Campbell. Introducing the harsh reality of endangered animals in a very simplistic Child friendly way. With beautiful Illustrations, lift the flap pages and simple repetitive sentences, this will delight babies and young children and keep their interest. His books are a favourite in my household. My 6 year old read this to me and he wanted to write his own review:

“I liked this book because it is about animals and I love animals. It told us we need to help animals and that made me sad and makes me want to find out how I can help. The illustrations were beautiful. 5 stars!” By Harry F

4☆ A Fun, Interactive, Educational and Inspiring, Children's Picture Book.

Look After Us is a really sweet and interactive children's book that gives very young children a glimpse into saving animals that are at risk.

If you have ever read the Dear Zoo books then you will adore this simple yet effective picture book.

It's repetitive text and eye catching illustrations is perfect for children aged 2-5years.
Children can lift the interactive flaps to reveal animals that need our help looking after, for example, Tiger, Orangutan, Whale, Lion.

There is so much more that can be done with this book, for example after reading it you can talk more about the Animals, find little ways to help animals, talk about the environment, but in a fun and interactive way.

I love this sweet picture book, it's a very important introduction into teaching children a little about animals and wildlife conservation and would make a Beautiful Gift.

If your little ones like Dear Zoo or others from Rod Campbell they should enjoy this one.
With lovely illustrations they will be drawn to the different animals. It also introduces the concept of animals being endangered and that we can make a difference to what happens to them.
Viewed as a digital copy so can’t easily give my young son’s reaction but he loves animals and lift the flap books so I’m sure it would be a hit.

Dear Zoo has been a favourite in my house with both children, so when I saw this one was up for review, I jumped at the chance.
This one was also great and was about looking after animals because there aren't so many of them left anymore - elephants, camels, lions etc.
Great illustrations too - sure this will be a firm favourite with families too

Dear Zoo is a favourite of ours and this book Look After Us is similar but about endangered animals. All children love lift the flap books and I feel this book is a good introduction for children to get to know about endangered animals. It follows 6 animals and asking for them to be looked after and kept safe. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I love Dear Zoo, Noisy Farm and Oh Dear! so I was excited to see a new book out by this author.
This is another great 'lift the flap' book but this time the story is teaching children about endangered animals. Each page has the same repetition.
'I went to where the elephants were but there weren't many left. That's because we need to look after them better'
Young children will enjoy lifting the flaps and naming the animals. The repetitive storyline makes it a lovely book to join in with. Slightly older children will be able to discuss why the animals are endangered and what we can do to help. I did feel it would have been a good opportunity to include some more information about what could be done to help.
The illustrations throughout this book are vibrant and simple which is great for young children.
This book would be a great addition to an Early Years Setting and I can see it being a popular book at home.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Books for this ecopy.

Having read one of the authors previous lift-the-flap books, Dear Zoo, I was eager to see what this new book would be like, particularly how it is touching on the subject of endangered animals.

The illustrations in the book have the same, familiar feel from what I know from Rods previous books. They are clear and stand out against the white background of the page. They can be easily identified as which animal they are supposed to be, and children, even as young as babies, will enjoy looking through the pages and lifting the flaps to see which animal is hidden underneath.

The story text has a repeated refrain that flows continuously through the story as it introduces each endangered species. At the beginning of the story it displays each animal to begin with, which I like. It allows the reader to point and name the animals first, and then offers the opportunity to let the children guess which animal lives in the illustrated habitat before revealing which animal is under the flap. This allows for teaching moments to happen to support the children’s development.

This book can be enjoyed by even our youngest little people. It is a nice, short story, that isn’t too wordy so will hold their attention easily. It is great for them to explore and the flaps and pages allow for fine motor actions to be practised. It has many learning opportunities to support children of the Early Years age and is one that can be explored independently, with illustrations that provide children with prompts so they are able to retell the story using their own narrative.

I liked this book and for me, I can see it having a place on the bookshelf of my settings baby room and toddler room, and being a popular choice by the little peeps at my setting.
