I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

About Us.

This is a book that undoubtedly tackles some real life issues but I have to say for me it was a bit predictable.

The story centres around three women and their relationship’s. Ann is coming to terms with the fact that her younger years are behind her and how she and her husband Ken are going to move forward into their retirement years. They have quite different views of how this will play out. Then we meet Alice and Niall, Alice is struggling with the rigours of family life, her husband is climbing the corporate ladder and she’s a stay at home mum, who spends all her time trying to keep all the balls in the air all the time. Lastly we meet Orla, a young teacher who’s birth resulted in the death of her mother, struggling to allow herself to feel loved and to give love.

They all find themselves in therapy, talking to a stranger about the most intimate part of their lives. Can they overcome their problems or are they insurmountable ?

For me this was a 3.5⭐️ story. Thanks to #NetGalley for my ARC of this book

About Us is a heartwarming book about three couples facing problems in their relationships. They visit therapist Maggie who helps them come to understand each other more and create ways to move forward and improve their lives. All the characters are relatable and their is real humour in the story as well as sadness. I would definitely recommend this book and will seek out other Sinead Moriarty novels.

Ann is feeling restless as her husband Ken nears retirement. She gave her all to their two children and now they have left home, she is left wondering about her next stage of life.
Stay-at-home mum Alice is exhausted from running around after her four young children and is resentful of the time her husband Niall spends at work and not helping out.
Teacher Orla has become interested in a student’s father but is worried that she can’t hold on to a man.
The three storylines are tied together by their sessions with a therapist. It makes for an emotionally fulfilling read as the author explores the inner workings of the relationships and their issues around communication, expectations and intimacy.

Is about 3 couples and a therapist's couch. One therapist helped all 6 of them. All of these couples have become lost in their relationships and want to feel loved again by their respective partners. This book hits reality for many could this be as we think I how do you recommend this book as it shows couples at different ages for different stages of Addotional it shows issues which can arise during relationships even if they are long-term I would highly recommend reading this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

'About Us' follows the lives of three couples who all start going to the same therapist. Ann and Ken have been married for over 35 years, are nearing retirement and Ann feels that time is running out for them to experience new adventures. Alice and Niall are in their thirties, have 4 children under the age of 10 and Niall feels that the spark in their relationship has been lost. Orla (and later of Paul) is a young woman suffering from vaginismus who feels she is unworthy of love.

I was most interested in Orla's story, because she was such a tragic character and I think she had the most potential for growth and healing. She made great progress in this book, but I feel she is just getting started.

Alice and Niall were ... frustrating. They are both over-worked and while I could on some level relate to/empathize with Niall's assertions that they have become a boring, old married couple who never have sex because Alice is never in the mood, I also became frustrated by his constant complaining. This could be because the Alice and Niall chapters of the book were from Alice's POV so we get a lot more of her inner monologue and how she sees the situation. I also though their children were pretty horrible little people, with the exception of James.

Ann and Ken's story was almost exactly the same as the movie 'Hope Springs' and therefore interested me the least. Ken's stubborn refusal to see or understand Ann's complaints about their marriage was also very repetitive.

Overall, this was a pretty average book for me. It was easy enough to read but I honestly didn't really care about the outcome of any of the relationships.

Really enjoyed this book, found it was unique to anything I previously read. This has captured my interest from the beginning and been a book I have struggled to put down.

While I found their stories readable, I did find it repetitive, particularly the sessions with the therapist, Maggie, who isn’t really a character, just a sounding board, and the book is probably too long, I struggled a bit to get to the end. There are some lighter moments, some of the things the kids say and do are funny. I did like the resolution of Orla’s story and overall it’s a lightish read that deals with some deeper issues within relationships.

I love Sinead Moriarty's books, she writes like it is and this story was no different. This book is all about couples and the issues couples can fae in their relationships. I loved it. It was so true, so real, no frills attached. I highly recommend this story. It was an easy and thoroughly enjoyable read.

Three different women at three different stages of life; and the situations that bring them to a therapist’s couch. An easy read that had characters you could fully picture, the madness of the household with 4 kids I could fully relate to 😂. Many thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House UK for the ARC

This was good book, but not one of her bests. But I am glad that I got the chance to read it.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

After seeing so many people review this book, I wondered why I didn’t enjoy the book as much as them. I think the characters just weren’t my cup of tea which is a shame because I thought I would really enjoy the read.

Maybe more suited to an older reader not my kind of thing unfortunately.

This isn't the first of Sinéad's books I've read, but it isn't my favourite unfortunately.

There are two couples in this book I didn't think suited well together, but especially not Alice and Niall. I really abhored as well that a predatory relationship in their storyline was pretty much glossed over with no discussion at all.

I didn't like many of the characters in this book and vastly disagreed with many of the incidents in here, but I did like and connect with Orla.

About us by Sinéad Moriarty is a really good read! About the up’s and downs of 3 couples and how they end up on the therapists couch, it covers a host of topics from a relationship that’s gotten stale, to a young woman with confidence issues, to a couple with 4 children whose relationship is in trouble. It is very well written, with lots of drama and I really enjoyed it. And as a Mammy, I could totally relate to the struggles the mum is dealing with!!! Very true to life!

Each of our couples are from a different generation and point in their lives, but all have one key issue in common, the effect sex has on their relationships and also what the lack of intimacy can actually be hiding underneath. Now don’t read this and see the word sex and think this is going to be some cheap bonkbuster that will have you running in the other direction this runs more deeply than that and I am sure so many of us will relate to one character or another.

I love how the author has managed to bring awareness of issues that effect women out there and weaved this into a storyline full of emotion, insight and self care and I particularly think that Orla’s condition being spoken about is a great thing because so many people have never even heard of her condition which makes sufferers feel less of a woman.

I sympathised with all of our characters other than Niall who I just wanted to shake and make him grow up.

Ok here is my only negative……. Sinead ….. you can not leave then ending there! I actually looked to see if pages had been torn out from my cover and now I am left guessing!

This was a insightful and honest read that I loved and have already recommended to a couple of people, because I know they will enjoy it but it may also help them to not feel alone too.

While the mystery element was very intriguing, I really struggled to keep a grip on who was who.
I found it a bit jumbled in places and it took me longer than it usually would to read this length of book.
I loved some characters and loathed other.
Post body being found was by far the better part of the book, for me.

Sweet, satisfying and sexy, this book follows three couples through therapy with Dr, Maggie Purcell and tells their stories as they take control of their lives. Ann is dreading her husband Ken retiring - is he just going to sit in his big, ugly chair watching sports all day, and why haven't they made love in months? Alice and Niall are at cross purposes - he is envious of a male friend who has left his wife for a sexy younger model, while all Alice wants is chocolate biscuits, Poldark and a good night's sleep. Orla, a primary school teacher, is about to find real love for the first time with one of the dads at school, but she has a physical condition that she worries will get in the way of intimacy. I really enjoyed returning to Sinead Moriarty's work after enjoying her earlier books. Be warned, though! You may never look at George Clooney in the same way again....
