This was one of those books that you would describe as a nice read . Easy to pick up and get lost in for a few hours . A good mix of character which appear very real and discuss real issues with the therapist . It’s a novel which I, sure many can relate too and although it’s not a page turner the character analysis of the people involved keeps the reader engaged. Overall a good little read

This was an easy read that addressed some sensitive issues. A little drawn out for me in places but on the whole I did enjoy it. Not read any other titles from this author but will definitely take a look.

Thank you Netgalley.

I can usually tell if I am going to like a book after the first couple of chapters but I knew I’d enjoy this after the first couple of pages.

Focusing on the reasons 3 different people go to see a counsellor for relationship/sex advice.

There are parts that have you cringing and parts that have you laughing but I guarantee everyone that reads this book will be able to relate.

I loved this book by Sinead Moriarty. It was so real!

Three couples, all at various stages of their relationship, and at different times of their lives.

Alice and Niall have been together a long time; now married, their lives have been overtaken by the demands of work and family.

Orla and Paul, new to a relationship; but will Orla's embarrassing condition drive them apart.

Ann and Ken are in their retirement years; Ken is content with his lot, but Ann wants more.

They are all connected by the one therapist with whom they share their issues, their feelings, their wants and needs, as they try to navigate the troubled waters of their relationships.

This was such a relatable story. I felt every word, and connected with every character.

A great read; 5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley and Sinéad Moriarty for an ARC.

I absolutely loved everything in this book and feel for all of the characters involved. I felt all of them were developed really well and you got to understand them more each chapter and feel for their difficulties but also understand why their partner is struggling with their marriage/relationship.

I particularly enjoyed Orla's story and how she changed throughout the book.
Amazing book and would highly recommend it!

This was an easy read that ticked boxes for me- not too many characters, not too heavy in depth so I can read before bed.
But there wasn't much to really rave about for me either, it was interesting to see characters having marriage counselling and why their relationships are struggling, although I did feel a little awkward reading some parts!

An unputdownable and very relatable book. It is a story of individuals ands couples going to therapy to work and fight hard for a brighter future. I respected the main message of the book which is that you don't have to remain stuck in your life. Therapy can give you the tools to change and become so much happier.

Okay, I loved this!

I didn't think I would. I was a bit unsure, I knew the book was lengthy and usually the shorter the book, the better. But I genuinely found myself really savouring & enjoying this book.

All three of our couples bring up important issues. Niall & Alice showcase the reality of parenthood and shine a light on the unpaid work carried out in the home (mostly by women).

Ann & Ken become stuck in their ways until Ann realises she wants more from life. It's never too late to go after what you want.

I think Orla & Paul were my favourite. Not a typical couple and definitely not doing things in a typical way but Paul was really kind & accepting of Orla. It was so nice to see her character develop through the story.

The writing was well paced. The typical Irish way of everyone knowing everyone was portrayed really well though the characters connections.

This was a really lovely read, I even bought the physical copy a few days after I finished the NetGalley because how could I not ?!

I rated it 5 stars!⭐

Thank you NetGalley, Sinéad Moriarty & Penguin for a #gifted eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say, this book was one of my favourites this year.
Anne is a 65 year old woman married to Ken who is approaching retirement. They have 2 children, who flown the nest. Ken is set in his way and likes a routine, Anne is getting more and more adventures and wants to travel.
Alice is a mother of 4 children, stay at home mum, married to a lawyer. She always put her children first and forgets she is a wife as well. Her husband wants his old wife back, go out and have fun.
Orla is a young woman, who is traumatised by her past. She lost her mum in childbirth and couldn't really talk to her dad.
Maggie is a therapist who helps couples, individuals through their hard times. Ken and Anne, Alice and Neil attend Maggie's sessions to try and save their marriage and Orla to let go off the guilt and trying to move forward.

Phenomenally written with a great plot. I loved every single word. Another hit from Sinead Moriarty.

Approaching 65yrs old, Ann stares into the abyss of another evening watching TV alongside her disgruntled husband, wondering: "Is this it?" Same old, Same old. Bored. Lonely. Unhappy. Her husband's retirement looms threatening more time together. Ann wants more. As life passes her by, she knows change is needed. She just needs to work out how to hop off the treadmill of monotony.

Alice is an overwrought mother of four. She had averaged a nightly 4 hour sleep in the last decade, and feels wrung out tired and frumpy. Meanwhile her husband salivates over his friends new teenage pirates instructor girlfriend and announces a desire to start clubbing. He is bored with their life at 42yrs and is hitting a midlife crisis.

Orla is a primary school teacher, but has a haunting past. She hurtles herself out of a taxi at 3am to avoid intimacy with a handsome stranger, but then meets Paul. She could fall in love with him, but can she overcome her inability to become intimate? She feels scared, alone, different, a freak.

Three women battling solitude and unhappiness and wishing for change. Can they break free from the weight of their restraints?

One couch. One therapist. Three couples. A miasma of troubles. Can they open up and make the necessary changes to move forward? Will they emerge unscathed?

An emotive read. Touching real issues, deep fears, insecurities and pain. Another smash-hit novel from Sinéad Moriarty. #aboutus #sinéadmoriarty #netgalley

I loved it. Really clever and different and not at all predictable. I think it’s refreshing to have such a female empowered book that is so true to life. Definitely will read more from this author.

This is a relationship/domestic drama about three loosely connected women. Ann, in her sixties, is in a rut with her near retirement husband. Alice is a middle aged stay at home mum with four loud and obnoxious kids and an ambitious husband who is mostly absent. And lastly Orla, a young schoolteacher with her own issues<spoiler>she has the medical condition vaginismus</spoiler>. They all end up going to the same therapist. While I found their stories readable, I did find it repetitive, particularly the sessions with the therapist, Maggie, who isn’t really a character, just a sounding board, and the book is probably too long, I struggled a bit to get to the end. There are some lighter moments, some of the things the kids say and do are funny. I did like the resolution of Orla’s story and overall it’s a lightish read that deals with some deeper issues within relationships.

'About Us' was a different style of book from my regular reads but one that I am pleased I decided to read. The story follows our main characters who are in therapy for relationship counselling. Ann and Ken have raised their family and should be looking forward to a blissful retirement together, Alice and Niall are raising a young family together whilst not felling so 'together' and Orla has recently started a relationship with Paul but finds her difficult past is risking her future happiness.
Although writing about serious topics the author manages to do this in a sensitive and, at times, humorous style and I cared more and more about the characters as I went through their stories with them. I found the dialogue and situations very true to life and written with real warmth and felt very invested in each character and their outcomes.
A well written, character driven 4 star read for me and a nice change of pace from my usual thriller genre.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers and author for the ARC.

Another excellent novel from Sinead Moriarty, this time revolving around three sets of people who all see the same therapist. Relatable, emotional reading, tackling some difficult issues in a very easy to access way with characters who were (mostly) easily likeable!

I enjoyed the premise of this book as we find out about the main characters as they are all clients of the same therapist. The three stories of different couples were varied and different ages which made it more interesting. A good light read while tackling some difficult issues

Unfortunately, this book didn't really work for me. Even though I appreciated the author tackling certain issues in the story, I never warmed to any of the characters. I started out really hating a lot of them, but then that superficial hate melted away into indifference, which is where all the characters ended up. On top of that, the dialogues felt forced at times, like the characters knew they were talking to the reader and needed to overexplain their situations or something?
