WOW what a brilliant book, it had me totally gripped from the beginning and I couldn't put in down. I devoured this in a couple of sessions and I am now gutted it has finished.
This was my first book by Jenny Hale and will definitely not be my last, I can't wait to read more of Jenny's books.
Jenny has a brilliant way of bringing the story to life and will stay with me for a little while. All the characters were loveable but especially Melanie and Josh.
I would totally recommend this to all my friends.

A lovely love story filled with family secrets that gently unfold.
After looking after her sick Gram for the past three years until she passes, Melanie Simpson uses her inheritance to purchase a forgotten beach house in Rosemary Bay at the request of her Grams wishes. Melanie remembers the house as it is located where they used to spend their summer holidays every year. It is a huge project for Melanie to take on to restore as its been left empty for years, but undeterred, her plans are to turn it into a bed and breakfast despite obstacles like a hurricane and the residents wariness.
Local good guy Josh comes to the rescue reluctantly and together they discover the mystery surrounding the previous owner and the connections of their own families.
I do enjoy Jenny Hales books and found this heart-warming romantic story endearing especially with added affection I felt for Cole, a young fostered boy. All in all it makes for a perfect read.
My thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the ARC.

When her gram passes away, Melanie Simpson feels utterly lost. She has no idea what to do with her life after she has devoted years to looking after her beloved grandmother.
But Gram’s will may hold the answer, instructing Melanie to use her inheritance to buy a crumbling house in Rosemary Bay. But hiding in a closet is a yellowing stack of letters that could change everything. The looping handwriting reveals the mystery of the rickety house––a buried history that touches everyone in Rosemary Bay. Will its secrets bring Melanie and Josh together or tear them apart?

A sweet little romance book with a lot of mystery!
Melanie is in need of a change! She's spent the past three years caring for her ill grandmother. When she passes, Melanie is left money to purchase the Ellis House in Rosemary Bay -- and the mysteries begin! A box of letters, a key without a lock, an oncoming hurricane, a hunky contractor leaving town, a paternity test, etc. The setting is a quaint little town in FL with caring townfolks. The story follows Melanie as she tackles remodeling the Ellis House in a B&B with the help of Josh, a contractor that was headed to NYC, until he's delayed by a hurricane.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
“Sometimes I think we get in the way of our own path, falling in love or taking the long way around. God has to double-time it to get us back on track.”
A truly well-executed romance! Hale demonstrates phenomenal mastery at sustaining tension, mystery, romance AND a compelling broader narrative.
Hale’s characters are relatable. She’s crafted fully-realized people and places and this allowed me to escape into this book. I especially loved how she let me in on what the characters were really feeling and thinking because when I saw the flaws in them, I was able to connect to the character because of them, not despite them.
Hale’s characters are worthy of each other. She doesn’t reveal the hidden depths at first, but ever so slowly builds the mystery and allows another character to unlock the secrets and reveal the true nature hidden within. It’s the person within that attracts the other character and love blossoms.
Hale’s character’s relationships were a web of meaningful connections, both in the past and the present. Every action had a reaction and every choice had a consequence; sometimes they rippled through generations.
Hale’s character’s have great chemistry. This is the type of romance I’d read again. Clean. Nothing more than an irresistible romance; stolen kisses, an unexpected touch, eye contact that lasts a little longer, and feisty verbal sparring. I kept reading because Hale built the emotional tension and her pages tingled with that tension and anticipation.
Hale crafted a tale that was a good balance of highs and emotional struggles. It’s a HEA, BUT the romance is secondary to the great plot riddled with mystery and surprises. You need to read this absolutely gorgeous and heartwarming read about never ending love, new beginnings, and how family is always with you, no matter where you are.
I was so excited to receive this book. I loved her past work and this did not disappoint! The characters were so well established, and the book didn't feel like anything else I've ever read. Loved it!
Melanie moves to a small beach town in Florida to buy and renovate a house her beloved grandmother left her. While she is there she discovers secrets and tries to solve mysteries of the past. A local contractor Josh who helps Melanie with the renovations becomes the love interest and romance eventually blooms between the two. It was a sweet story and the mystery aspect kept me engaged the whole time. I only wish the romance between the two characters was more developed.
I am glad to be introduced to Jenny Hale and will be looking for her books in the future.
Jenny Hale is the queen of heartwarming beach fiction! This and her last book, The Memory Keeper, are definitely my favorites of hers and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next! This story tells the tale Melanie who finds herself renovating a beach house after her grandmother passed away. Woven throughout this story is a bit of mystery as we uncover relationships of the past. I really enjoyed watching Melanie uncover the secrets that this mystery brings. Josh, her contractor, was in a bit of denial with what Melanie was discovering, however, the HEA at the end of the story was worth the struggles our main characters faced. I loved this story so much!
I have been a fan of Jenny Hale's since the first time I picked up one of her books. Each one is better than the one before and this one does not disappoint. It's a love story, it's a mystery, it's romantic and it's tragic. To think that OUR destiny could have been put into play by prior generations seems mind boggling - yet it makes complete sense. How many times have we heard "It must have been meant to be." Fulfilling her grandmother's wish, Melanie moves to Rosemary Bay and buys a run down house that has always fascinated her Gram-but she has no idea why. She sets out to unlock the mystery of the house and the previous owner. Her attraction to Josh is instantaneous but futile as he is moving to New York. Forced to ride out a hurricane together they grow closer and work together to solve the mystery of the Ellis house. I was completely captivated with this story. "Sigh". I think I am going to read this one again!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jenny Hale, & Bookouture for the advance digital copy of The Beach House, in exchange for my honest review. Let me begin with an upfront disclaimer - this is not my usual genre, it's been a very long time since I've read a romance. I haven't read this author before. I needed an escape from my usual murder, crime, legal, thrillers, & this was a welcome diversion!
Melanie, having just lost her dear "Gram", is faced with finding her next chapter in life. This includes moving to Gram's favorite vacation spot, Rosemary Bay, FL, buying & renovating a derelict beach house with lots of secrets. The location was beautifully described.
Throw in a local temperamental contractor, Josh, a hurricane, & some old love letters, & the mystery & romance begins.
I thought Melanie's character spent more time on the letters than renovations, a bit immature for her age. Many other fun & quirky characters in the story.
This would be a great summer beach read for any romantic looking for that fairy tale ending.
This book is a fantasy from beginning to end. Purchasing an abandoned house is one thing.. Spending a night the first night is another - no mention of bugs, mice, etc which surely would have invaded this coastal house as it had been so long empty, no problem sleeping on a dusty floor. After the hurricane everyone just happened to be available to fix her house, clear her yard of debris. because of her boyfriend's connections. After any kind of storm everyone pitches in and helps everyone else - not just be available to one home owner. Sometimes you have to wait months for a contractor to be available., except in this complete fantasy world. There is happily everafter and then there is so far fetched to be unbelievable. It should have been classed as a fairytale.
