Oh what a beauty! This gorgeous book just swept me off my feet for sure! Romance with a hint of mystery, The Beach House was an absolute delight.

After her grandmother’s passing, Melanie feels lost, having been her care giver for the past three years. Looking to start fresh, with her inheritance money, she buys an old dilapidated house in Rosemary Bay, a place with fond childhood memories.

Restraining herself from falling for Josh, the local carpenter, who is helping her with the refurbishments, Melanie discovers some old letters hidden in the closet. The secrets about the house & its previous inhabitants, waiting to be uncovered from these letters, seem to hold the key to their entire future.

What drew me in instantly was the picturesque setting of the beach house, near the Gulf of Mexico. Hale’s vivid descriptions of the location were simply breathtaking and my imagination ran wild, trying to conjure up the turquoise colored beach lined with pearl white sands, making it an amazing summer read.

The chemistry between Melanie and Josh was so delicately handled by Hale, balancing their current situations and prospective dreams about their lives. As their mutual attraction which was subtle in the beginning and began to grow stronger slowly, I couldn’t help wanting more, wishing things moved faster, only to find that, the pace at which Hale takes it forward, was just perfect.

I loved how Josh & Melanie’s relationship felt so pure and genuine. I also enjoyed how the addition of 4 year old Cole to brought out their true selves, creating a stronger bond between each other.

It was surprising how this romance novel had me hooked and kept me turning pages. Even though, things were mostly predictable, it was strangely comforting and joyful.

Hale has so cleverly crafted an exquisite story around this stunning beach house, magically bringing together, its historic past and glorious future with the enigma of those letters.

Charming, poignant and gratifying, the beach house is a beautiful novel about finding love and surrounding yourselves with things that truly matter.

Thanks NetGalley & Bookouture for the ARC.

Book Review
The Beach House by Jenny Hale

Thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for my copy in return for an honest review

This book has it all:
Home renos, Hidden family past,
Beach house/ Bed and breakfast,
Soft spot for kids, Good guy meets good girl, Hurricane, Grandmothers
Lost loves, and Second chances

Melanie’s journey to find herself is one that resonated with me. Who are We when we are no long caregivers. How does one role, one aspect of your life become so all encompassing that to lose it means losing yourself. How do you find your way back to your “self”? The person you were before… does knowing your past and where you have from help move you forward?? Melanie’s Gram is a woman I would have like to have met and known. Her love story and her grand daughters intertwine, past colliding with present. Not all love stories have a happy ending but happiness can be found in the journey.

The Beach House is a very beautiful uplifting romance novel. Melanie and Josh both are going through a very rough time in their life and looking for a direction. Melanie gets a direction when her grandmother before passing away tells her to buy a old house in Rosemary Bay. Josh meanwhile wants to move to New York. How these two characters meet and fall in love is the beautiful story of this novel. The four year old Cole is just adorable and the simplicity of his answer to a question changes the lives of these two characters. A mystery element is added with some old letters found in the house that Melanie buys. This novel is a total package for a perfect summer read! Really enjoyed it.

This was a sweet romance. I loved all the characters. The story lines of the past and present day were blended very well together. I like that this book hada romance, but also a mystery. It could have done with a little more chemistry though.

The Beach House by Jenny Hale is her new contemporary romance with a beach theme and I loved it! Melanie Simpson’s beloved grandmother passes away instructing Melanie to use her inheritance to buy a crumbling house in Rosemary Bay. They used to visit that same village every summer and dream about turning the ‘place on the corner’ into a bed and breakfast. So with her inheritance she buys the house and soon finds out the house is in utter disrepair and is about to crumble to pieces.
When Melanie runs into local carpenter, Josh Claiborne, whose “eyes match the dazzling sea”, she asks him for help. But Josh has other plans. He’s off to New York, leaving his troubled past (and manipulative ex-wife) behind. Over a game of darts Melanie gets her wish, although Josh isn’t happy about it. The house once belonged to a man named Alfred Ellis and there is a history there.. While repairing the old house, Melanie comes across a stack of letters written by Alfred to a sweetheart. Curiously, she starts reading those letters.. The letters reveal a mystery about this old house––a buried history that touches those that live in the small quaint Rosemary Bay. This story becomes a dual timeline and it’s beautifully written and tells an engaging and enjoyable story.
The Beach House is a story about love and friendship spanning from 1961 with Alfred's love story to present day with Melanie and Josh. It was truly an enjoyable book.

Pretty close to a perfect book, and everything you could want in a summer read. Hale knows how to layer her books with the ideal amount of character intertwining, gorgeous, transporting settings and soul-soothing interest. Hand-written letters never sent? Yes. The wise romantic interest? The character with something to learn? It's got everything, and I haven't recommended a book this good all year. Excellent.

A sweet heartwarming story. I really engaged with Melanie straightaway- having looked after her grandmother for so long it was now her time to shine, although renovating the beach house was a strange way for her to do it. She was such an uncomplicated character who wore her heart on her sleeve. It was so wonderful seeing her blossom as the house came back to life. The buried history of the house was a lovely touch and a wonderful reminder that family will be with you always.

The Beach House by Jenny Hale is a wonderful new contemporary romance read. While this one is mainly focusing on a building romance in the current time there was also a bit of mystery brought into the story through the history of the house and finding letters belonging to the previous owner.

Melanie Simpson has just lost her grandmother after spending the last few years focusing on nothing but caring for her having moved into her grandmother’s home and given up her job. Trying to come to terms with the loss and not knowing what path she wanted to follow Melanie decides to use her inheritance to purchase an old beach house that her grandmother admired and remodeled it to open a bed and breakfast.

As Melanie arrives in her newly purchased home she finds that there is way more work to be done that she imagined and while out in the new town residents points her towards a local contractor. Josh Claiborne however has his own plans and doesn’t want to even consider taking on Melanie’s home so Melanie and her friend come up with a plan to at least get him to give her and idea of what needs to be done.

As if it isn’t obvious with my five star rating of this one I have to say I absolutely loved what the author created in this story. The book felt if it had so many layers to uncover as I read along with the letters from the past and all that was going on in the couple’s lives in the present and with those surrounding them. The relationship moved at a steady pace as the stories unfolded all around and i was totally engaged to see how everything could possibly be worked out and what the end would bring.

Melanie has spent the last 3 years caring for her ailing grandmother who leaves her an inheritance, with specific instructions. They summered for many years in Rosemary Bay Fl and admired the famous Ellis house. Grams will instructs her to buy the house, turning it into a B and B.

She meets a contractor while out at a bar getting dinner with her sister. A wager in a darts game has her the winner and Josh helping her renovate and repair the Ellis house.

It's a story of second chances, with a bit of mystery and suspense as the history of the Ellis house and it's occupants is revealed. A light and fun book, great for a summer read.

Melanie inherits some money from her grandmother, and her dying wish is that the inheritance is used to move to Florida and refurbish a particular house into a B&B. Once Melanie arrives, she soon meets Josh, falls for him, and also discovers a mystery associated with the house and both their families.

This was my first Jenny Hale book, although I know of her because of the TV movies based on her books. And now I understand what she writes - her books are exactly like the cheesy, wholesome, "someone moves to a small town and learns a valuable life lesson" TV movies I like to watch over the holiday's, or on a miserable Sunday.

This book I am sure follows a formula, and I can imagine fans will love it. For me though the 'love story' was too unbelievable, and at points I was screaming at Melanie for trusting a man she met exactly 5 minutes ago. Personal safety please. I found Melanie quite annoying at times - specifically squealing during a hurricane and being useless when it came to some practical things. I also think I'm too feminist for some of the pointed notes about their relationship and how it progressed. For me it was just a tad too unrealistic, and Mills and Boon like. (Nothing wrong with that if it's your bag. No book snobbery here. But not for me.)

The saving grace for me was the 'mystery' element, and Melanie uncovering some of the history associated with the house. That to me was done well, and it predominately why I hung on until the end. And also why I will summarise is as "OK" rather than 2 stars.

If you liked Hale's previous books, I am sure you will lap this up. If not, maybe chose something else.

Heart warming story of love, loss, second chances, and starting over.
When Melanie's grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, she gave up everything to be with her the last three years of her life. Upon her death, her grandmother made a wish - for Melanie to buy the Ellis House, a run down mansion Melanie remembers walking by as a kid. But Melanie may have taken on more than she can handle.
Joshua has had a horrible experience with his recent marriage and divorce, leaving him with a desire to get a whole new life. Determined to leave and start over in NYC, he gets sidetracked by a hurricane.
When a bundle of letters is found in the closet of the house, a long mystery starts to unravel. One that will effect the lives of all the people Melanie has grown to love.
I loved the story, with relatable characters dealing with real life.

Jenny Hale books are my favourite Christmas reads - every year I buy a Jenny Hale book. I've read some of her Summer themed books, but generally less of them. I loved 'The Beach House' - Jenny is great at creating characters and settings that you can picture, and sweet stories. Give 'The Beach House' a go if you haven't read a Jenny Hale book before... and if you're a regular Jenny Hale reader, I'm sure you'll love this one, too!

4 stars!

Melanie Simpson has spent the last three years living with and taking care of her Gram. Gram has left Melanie inheritance money with instructions that she is to use it to purchase and fix up the old Ellis house in Rosemary Bay, Florida. With no other plans, Melanie leaves her family in Tennessee and heads south to the little beach village she would visit often with Gram. When Melanie arrives, she finds the home in pretty bad shape and with the win of a bet, she enlists the help of the town’s builder Josh Claiborne. Josh is on his way out of town to take a job in New York and is not happy at all about working on the Ellis house. Together, Josh and Melanie uncover a rusty tin box in the back of a closet and its contents will change both of their lives.

This could possibly be my new favorite Jenny Hale book. The dual timeline (which I wish there was more of), and getting to read Alfred’s (Ellis House original owner) lost love letters were what really make the story more than just a light fluffy read. I recommend you pick this up this summer! The beach setting of the story makes it a perfect day at the beach read.

This book is really sweet and good although a little over-loaded on sweetness. Its gushy innocent and sweet. Love like that I have never seen but who knows maybe it still really happens like that. I won't hold my breathe but I loved the book.

Inheriting property is one of my favorite tropes, but if it were to happen to you in real life, what would you do? Would you keep it or would you sell it?

After caring for her grandma for the past three years, when she passes away, Melanie feels lost. She soon finds out that she’s instructed to use her inheritance money to buy a house that’s falling down in Rosemary Bay, where her grandma and her used to visit years ago.

Melanie runs into carpenter Josh one night and hopes that he’s willing to help her fix the house up. While he’s hesitant to help, after a daring game of darts, her wish comes true. He vows to help her out, but they both know that it’s going to be short lived as he’s going to NYC soon. With this knowledge, they fight the constant chemistry between them. But while they’re renovating the house, they come upon a stack of letters, including her grandmas handwriting. The secrets included could greatly effect Josh & Melanie. Will these letters bring them together or tear them apart?

This was my first book from Jenny Hale and I look forward to reading more from her! This low steam, light read is a great way to start off summer reading! Glimpses into the past through the letters were a great addition to the story.

Out June 9!

Thank you NetGalley, Jenny Hale and Bookouture for the ARC of The Beach House. This is my personal review.
Jenny Hale has done it again. She writes so a reader feels where the story takes place and the people in the book become real as you read the book.
This book has secrets and romance. And a location that is great. Melanie never imagined being left a house by her Grandmother would lead to where it does in her life.
This is one you must read as you relax during a vacation!
The cover of the book is fantastic!
