This is the story of a young woman wanting to fulfil her grandmother's final wishes. Melanie buys an old beach house and finds a local handyman Josh to help her fix it up. They find letters written by the owner, a reclusive man, but never mailed. Melanie starts reading the letters and another story is revealed.

This book was my favorite kind romance - a slow moving relationship between the two main characters, other interesting characters, and more to the story than just their relationship. There was also mystery intermingled in the their lives that added another dimension to the story.

This was a wonderful read that I just enjoyed from start to finish. Speaking of finish - the end was all you expect and want from a romance story. I am looking forward to Jenny Hale's next book.

Melanie Simpson is lost when her grandmother passes away from cancer, she has been her caregiver and now has no idea what to do with her life. Her grandmother leaves her a sum of money and instructions to purchase a falling down house in Rosemary Bay. They went there every summer. She decides to restore the house and make it a bed and breakfast. She enlists the help of local carpenter Josh Claiburn. As they work together, they both find that they are becoming attracted to one another. Josh plans to go to New York so they know they have no future. Melanie finds a stack of letters that suggests a mystery surrounding the house. Melanie is determined to solve the mystery and find out why the owner of the house led such a sad life. She discovers that the secrets of the letters affect her family and also Josh’s. Will their relationship survive when the secrets are disclosed? Great book!

This was a lovely and unusual read about Melanie who is encouraged to buy a crumbling beach house with the inheritance she received from her Gram who she has cared for over the last three years. A bet about a darts match brings reluctant contractor Josh to her assistance however he’s desperate to leave the area and wants nothing to do with Melanie’s beach house. The storyline was unusual and the characters well formed, the character of Cole added a really strong dimension, I was amazed at the speed of transformation of the guest house though, sounds impossible by UK standards!

If you like sweet romances set at the beach, you’ll love The Beach House! If you also like a little mystery and home renovation mixed in, then The Beach House will be your favorite read this summer! The only downfall to reading this book is that you’ll get nothing else done until you finish it! It’s a small price to pay for a good story!

This is the third book I have read by Jenny Hale in the past six months and I am looking forward to reading more!

Melanie reluctantly embarks on an adventure when she honors her late grandma’s wishes to purchase a dilapidated house that mesmerized Gram. She would love to turn it into a B&B, but has her wishful thinking got her in over her head with this eyesore? Melanie soon uncovers the mysteries of what the original owner was like and why a talented, yet grouchy contractor doesn’t ease the fear that she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

I loved the mystery thrown in there and found it difficult to put down! I was sad when it ended!

P.S. You’ll love the sweet character of Cole!

This was a beautiful heartwarming read of love and friendships and family relationships and how the events of the past effect the future yet was far more than just a love story. This would be the perfect summer holiday beach read and left you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside and was perfect escapism in the current times and I could almost picture the blue skies sun on my back and Sandy beaches while reading.

I am definitely going to look out for more of this authors books as they are perfect pick me up reads.

I would love to see a sequel delving more into the life of Melanie and josh and Cole and where their lives take them.

This is a charming, easy to read, tale of love and loss, against the gorgeous backdrop of Rosemary Bay.
Melanie has spent three years of her life caring for her ailing grandmother. In that time, she's absorbed the role of caretaker so wholly that she doesn't really know who she is on her own. Her grandmother leaves her an inheritance with instructions to use the money to purchase a rundown house in the coastal town they vacationed in every year...the same town her grandmother grew up in.
Melanie doesn't know the first thing about renovation, but she wants to fulfill the final wishes of her grandmother so she decides to give it a shot. What she finds, in addition to the dilapidated house, is mystery, romance, and a wonderful little boy who needs a chance.
This book is filled with a lovable cast of characters. The backstory, pieced together by a series of forgotten letters, is just as exciting as the main action with Melanie.
It's a nice, gentle, read to make you feel good. A perfect beach read for sure.

Oh my stars this book was just what my little heart needed! Sweet and heartfelt without being super cheesy! I will be digging into Jenny Hale’s catalog as my go-to when I need a boost.
Melanie had given up everything-her career, her old life including her fiancé, when her beloved grandmother got cancer. She moved in with her and cared for her for her last years and when she passed, her Grandmother left her an inheritance that included instructions to buy an old house in town and fix it up. Melanie didn’t understand but she followed her wishes and started renovations. She uncovers some letters that reveal secrets of the past that most of the neighbors want to keep under wraps, including the local contractor who has come to help her after she meets him while prepping for a storm. As they work on renovating the house to a B & B, they learn to trust each other and what each other could mean if they’d let the other one in. In between projects, Melanie reads more of the letters and discovers more and more about the history of the house and it’s owner, and her connection to it all.
I can’t thank Bookouture and Netgalley enough for this book! I adored it and will recommend it to anyone who will listen :)

CW: destructive storm/hurricane, death, divorce, deceptive relationships/gaslighting

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Melanie has spent the last three years caring for her grandmother, which has made her death more difficult to process. Gram left specific instructions for Melanie to use her inheritance to buy the old Ellis house in Rosemary Bay. During the first few days of the move, her sister arranges a bet with some guys at the bar: if the girls win, Josh - a contractor - needs to help her with the house. Miraculously, they win the bet, but they've got their work cut out for them. Why was Gram so adamant that she buy this house, anyway?

This was fun. With all of the layers, I really enjoyed this story. Truthfully, I picked it up because the love interest is a carpenter, which is the same as my real-life love interest, but I do not regret that choice! Melanie and Josh were great and I'm so glad I got to read their story!

"When it feels like everything— literally everything—is going wrong, sometimes, without our knowledge, it’s actually going very, very right .” A love story with a hint of The Notebook, you won't want to miss this beautiful read! Set on the Gulf Coast, this is the perfect beach read for the summer.

After taking care of her Gram for the last three years of her life, Melanie isn't sure what to do with her life. What she is sure of is buying the crumbling beach house her Gram loved to visit every time they went to the beach. With just her inheritance and a dream of turning it into a B&B, she quickly realizes she may be in over her head. Local handyman Josh doesn't want to visit the property let alone help with all the work that's needed on the house. While getting ready for the coming storm, Melanie finds a box full of letters that tie Josh's family and her Gram to the house. What happens after is part mystery and full love story of not only Melanie and Josh, but the old owner of the house and Melanie's Gram.

Beautifully written with stories tying past and present, you'll be on the edge of your seat until the very end wondering how this will all work out. Hale not only writes about love, she also writes about loss, and how family isn't just the ones were born into. A slow build love story you'll remember long after you've put it down.

A perfect beachy read! The story brought tears, but the romance was perfect. The characters were so well written, I went from loving some to hating some back to loving them, which is great in a book! Keeps you reading!

Melanie inherits from her grandmother who asks her to purchase an old abandoned house in Rosemary Bay. She meets Josh Claiborne on her first day there and together they survive a hurricane and family secrets to find love.

My first Jenny Hale novel. Some parts of this story were hard to suspend belief for. Also, I just did not like Josh. Made it hard to continue reading. DNF after 1/2 way. Looks like Ms. Hale has a following, so maybe her books just aren't for me.

The Beach House, written by Jenny Hale, is a beautiful book about love, loss and finding new meaning in life. Melanie Simpson looked after her grandmother during the last years of her life. After her death, Melanie tries to fulfil Gram's will. What can happen when she buys a destructive beach house? How does she manage to turn it into a dream house they both talk about so many times? What changed at Rosemary Bay? - you need to find out.
You will like the story - the village life, protagonist, life-changing situation, and many unexpected turning points. It is a page-turner from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down and guess what will happen next!

Brilliantly written and structured. Wonderful and heartwarming with an unexpected twist. The narrative is written from a female point of view, which makes the book more interesting - the narrator does not know everything so that you will need to undercover the most deeply hidden secrets page by page. Warm and easy to read, a beautiful romance about never-ending love, family and new beginnings.
It is my first book from Jenny Hale's collection, and it will definitely not be the last.

I highly recommended it to all romance readers.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookoulture, for allowing me to read this book and provide an honest review.

When Melanie's Gram, passes away, she leaves Melanie money to buy a crumbling house in Rosemary Bay. When Melanie decided to accept the challenge, she really doesn't know what she has gotten herself into.
This story will grip you from the very beginning with Melanie going through her first hurricane., to uncovering secrets, and wondering if secrets are better left buried.
Even when life got really rough, or all she could say was, Gram I hope you have this because I don't know what to do, she carried on, trying new things, and moving forward in life.
This story has the highs and lows of life, finding things out that you never knew, and finding the connections that makes life complete.

" That's the great thing about life. It's always moving forward. You just have to know how to pick up the pace to run with it". Josh, The Beach House
The Beach House by Jenny Hale is a perfect summer beach book! I loved the characters and my heart ached for both families as the secrets began to unfold. The Beach House is filled with so many emotional scenes. It is a lovely romance, mystery, and drama that weaves together with a happy ending.
Melanie is grieving the death of her grandmother. She had left her career and a relationship to spend three years as a caregiver to her Gram who suffered from cancer. In Gram's will, the request was that Melanie moves to Rosemary Bay, Fl, and purchase an old home that had once been grand, but now was falling apart from neglect. Melanie and Gram would pass the house during their vacations and look in the windows as they talked about how it could be renovated as a bed & breakfast. Alfred Ellis, the man who built the house in the 1950s was a recluse with no family. Now Melanie wonders if she has made a huge mistake as she looks at the house she bought because her Gram had grand ideas.
The story progresses to more than a home renovation fiasco when Melanie finds an old box that contains personal items hidden away by Mr. Ellis. There are love letters that were not addressed and had never been sent to the intended lady he loved. I will try not to post a spoiler, but this is the one part of the book I did not understand. How did Melanie expect to find the initials under the bench on the pier when the letter had never been received by his love? So, read this book to learn the fallout of events that can happen when Melanie tries to solve the mystery of Alfred Ellis and why he lived alone.
