PC Philomena "Phil" McCarthy of the London Metropolitan Police is our main character and boy is she a good'un. Phil is a likeable character and what makes her even more likeable is that fact that her Father from whom she is estranged is a criminal! When Phil attends a domestic disturbance she has no idea that meeting the victim Tempe Brown will literally blow her life up! It's clear when Phil arrives that Tempe is petrified and that the man who is the one inflicting the damage turns out to be another copper.
What starts out as Phil trying to do the right thing turns into the biggest fight of her life as many other men within the force close ranks and go up against her. This storyline was complex and the writing just draws you in with each chapter that passes. Things rapidly decline and go from bad to worse for Phil and it seems like there is literally nothing else that can do any more damage. Until it does!
I don't want to divulge too much of the storyline as it could ruin it for some people but I absolutely loved this book. Fully of plot twists and things you don't see coming I devoured this in a few days. I sincerely hope we get to see Phil back in another book as I can imagine it would be dynamite!

The plot is compulsive, clever and full of twists of surprises. I would suggest going blind into this one like I did, because it will make your reading experience even more amazing!
Thank You NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for the ARC!

I love Michael Robotham. I've read all of his books and this one did not disappoint! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down!

I do love Michael Robotham and definitely wasn't disappointed with his latest read. Highly recommended to anyone who loves his books

I am a huge fan of Michael Robotham books and was really excited to receive a copy of When You Are Mine. The novel follows Philomena (Phi) who not only is a serving police officer, but is also the estranged daughter of a high profile gangster. When Phi tries to help the lover of a high ranking member of her profession, she begins to see the dark side of the force.
I enjoyed the storyline of this book, but don’t feel it is the author’s best work mainly due to the number of cliches within it. A lot of information was crammed in and several strands of narrative that detracted from the main plot.

I have read all of Michael's books, and once again I wasn't disappointed. He kept me entertained from the beginning to the end, and I can't wait to see the next book in the series. Recommended for anyone who loves a good read.

I flew through this. Fast paced, interesting (and creepy) characters, great plot - a real page turner. Another great read by Michael Robotham. Just wish I’d read it sooner!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.

A compulsive and complex standalone psychological thriller. Fresh-faced PC Philomena McCarthy is called to a domestic assault. But things get complicated when she discovers the abuser is a hero cop, with the incident quickly covered up. 'Phil' refuses to let it go, falling foul of her superiors. A riveting and absorbing read.

A compelling and gripping read. It was well structured and held my interest. Looking forward to reading more from the author.

A fantastic read. From the first page to the last I was completely engrossed in this book. I read this book in a day it was that good. A great character in Philomena McCarthy and her quest for justice was heartwarming but dangerous and nerve wracking. The plot, centred around domestic abuse, friendship and obsession, was fast paced and flowed brilliantly . I highly recommend this 5 star read.

When your dad is the notorious London gangster and you have just become a police officer I am not sure how this will pan out but something or someone has to make the first move!
I really enjoyed this and I loved the dynamics between the gangster and the police officer.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great storyline with excellent characters. I would highly recommend this book as it was a great read.

Police officer Phil McCarthy wanted to be a police officer most of her life since seeing a policewoman helping people after a bombing.
She and her partner attend a domestic incident where a young woman Tempe has been assaulted. Tempe doesn’t want to press charges but Phil arrests the man who turns out to be a well regarded, married policeman, Darren Goodall
Phil continues working on the case, despite being warned off. She starts to investigate Darren’s previous and current life despite the risk to her career. She also befriends Tempe who seems to insert herself in all aspects of Phil’s life, including her wedding. Phil’s fiancé is wary of Tempe and her influence over Phil.
Alongside these problems are Phil’s estranged family of local criminals.
For a police officer I found Phil a bit naive and at times wanted to shout at her to ‘Wise Up.’ but I’m sure there are all sorts in the police force but hopefully not too many who are easily duped.
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review.
3.5 Stars. Good psychological thriller.

Philomena is the daughter of a crime boss but is also a Police Officer.
This book gives an insight to domestic violence and the coercive control that is one of the behaviours of DVA.
Philomena fights for what is right and gets caught up to the point that this could end her career.
Page turning thriller with twists and turns and when you think you know who has done what - think again.
Great read.

This confirms Michael Robotham as one of the premier writers in the crime genre. As always intricately plotted and immaculately realised..
I must admit that this will not rank amongst Mr Robotham’s superb canon of work, but I must emphasise that this reflects on my inability to relate to, or emphasise with, the female characters around which the story revolves.
So please do not let my minor caveats deter you from reading another brilliant offering from this hugely talented author.

A little girl is saved by a police officer during a terrorist attack. This act of altruism inspires the child to become an officer herself when she grows up. Only the real world of policing is more complicated than the fantasy.
She is called out to a suspected domestic abuse incident only to discover that the alleged perpetrator is a highly respected and powerful police officer. So begins the intense story of a young woman police officer who faces moral dilemmas throughout this story. Her family, friends, victims and boyfriend present her with challenging decisions in a climate of loyalty, control, misogyny, prejudice and justice. And somewhere in this sticky mix is truth.
This book is perfectly paced with moments of high tension and tender moments that always remain relevant. Characters and situations are cleverly human so that every now and again I stop to think what I would do in that circumstance. Robotham is an intelligent writer with an eye for detail that is never irrelevant. A master at his craft, he has become one of my favourite authors. Highly recommended for those who like upmarket psychological fiction.

Another brilliant story by the master Michael Robotham! I loved it from beginning to end! His writing seems effortless and you get drawn into the drama.
Philomena McCarty (Phil) was 11 when she saw her future. She was 1 of the fortunate ones to escape a bomb explosion on a double-decker bus on her way to a doctors appointment. A wonderful police officer assisted her and her calm and self assured demeanour made such an impression on Phil that she decided to also become a police officer. This was not an easy task because with a father who's a known gangster she had to fight tooth and nail to get accepted as a police officer.
Together with her partner, she responds to a domestic disturbance call out. Here her paths cross with decorated police officer DS Darren Goodall. A guy with a very dark side who decides to destroy her credibility because she dared to have him arrested. She also meets Tempe, a girl she knew from school. Someone she feels sorry for and tries to help. a Decision that will blow up in her face.
In the author's own words: "It's a novel about domestic abuse toxic friendships and the baggage that all families carry with them”
Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Bookgroup for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

When You Are Mine by Michael Robotham is an enjoyable read. It didn’t take me long to become intrigued by the way police constable Phil gets herself in trouble and out of favour by continuing to investigate a senior colleague whom she suspects is an abuser. Add to this her family connections in the crime world and the plot thickens.
She teams up with Tempe who claims she is the victim and before long, Tempe has become completely involved in Phil’s life. It’s a psychological thriller with added elements of the contemporary issues of domestic abuse, bullying and obsessive behaviours. I felt that the storyline faulted a bit in the middle and some of Phil’s actions seemed implausible. However, it gained pace and became a tense read towards the conclusion. It’s not my favourite book by the author but certainly worth reading if you enjoy a thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Little Brown for the opportunity to read this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An intense, well-written psychological thriller. A great storyline, fabulous ending. An excellent read.

A fast paced page-turner of a novel, dealing with police corruption, unspoken loyalties and domestic abuse as well as toxic friendships and hidden secrets. Twists and turns wherever you look, 'When You Are Mine' is definitely worth a read, it kept me gripped throughout. I'd certainly read other books by the same author.
