Having not read the previous book from this collaboration, I was unsure what to expect, however, as I have come to expect from any Patterson book, there is lots of action!
It’s fast paced, full of tension and will pull you in from the beginning.
Be ready for the drama to unfold as you learn more about the characters and progress through this action packed story.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Michael Keating is a former Navy SEAL -- and a former President of the United States, now relocated to rural New Hampshire after a brave but ill-fated military mission cost him his second term.

All he wants is to sink into anonymity with his family (and his Secret Service detail). But when he's briefed on an imminent threat against his daughter, Keating's SEAL training may prove more essential than all the power, connections, and political acumen he gained as President.

This was a real rollercoaster of a read. I haven't read a book by these collaborating authors before, of course, I've read plenty by James Patterson and I wasn't sure what to expect.

I was not disappointed.

After reading "The President is Missing", the first book by Bill Clinton and James Patterson, last year I absolutely jumped at the chance to read this their second book, and it didn't disappoint.

The book centres on Michael Keating, the former President of the United States, as well as a former Navy SEAL. Keating finds himself at the top of the hit list of an international assassin, with his daughter the main target (as per the books title!).

The blurb tells us "Keating's SEAL training may prove more essential than all the power, connections, and political acumen he gained as President" and this is certainly true. Keating is not on the best of terms with the new President, who swept his second term from under him, so he finds that he must battle to the core to save his daughter, Mel, from the clutches of Al Asheed.

The book is full of tension, drama and all out action, along with a few lucky coincidences (though perhaps implausible) to bring Keating on the right track. A great read with excellent descriptions that put you right at the heart of the story,

This is a high energy thriller with lots of twists and turns that will keep you gripped.

Former President, Matthew Keating is recovering in the countryside after an humiliating election defeat. But his enemies have not forgotten him.

A Libyan terrorist, who blames Keating for the death if his wife and children, is seeking revenge. Keating’s daughter Melanie is kidnapped and her boyfriend killed while hiking a local trail and the race is on to find her.

Keating calls on his former government, CIA and Navy SEAL contacts to put together a daring and extremely dangerous rescue mission.

Melanie herself is a great character – she is smart and quick thinking and determined to stay alive.

I’m not sure how plausible some of the plot actually is – but who cares. This is fast paced and action packed and a great thriller. It’s a stand alone and does not follow on from Clinton and Patterson’s previous thriller, so perfect for summer holiday reading.

Thank you to Netgalley for my gifted digital copy.

A great adventure story. The ex president of the USA Matt Keating settling into a new life in beautiful New England has his world torn apart when his daughter is kidnapped by an evil jihadist intent on revenge. The new lady president seems intent on not supporting any rescue mission, so Matt has to take action himself. The story unfolds with lots of surprises and some, I knew that was coming situations. Overall an enjoyable read if somewhat predictable.

Fantastic read, it made me fall in love with reading again.

Fast paced and clear that The President's Daughter draws on Clinton's experience in the White House and all that it entails. Highly recommended, I can't wait to read the next instalment and find out what happens next!!

With great characters and a thrilling storyline, this book is a must read.

Patterson rarely disappoints. This one aided by Bill Clinton is a fast-paced old fashioned thriller. Well written, full of thrills and chills. Recommended.

Not really for me this one. Story of a former POTUS whose daughter is kidnapped by terrorists and his journey trying to save her.
I found it really hard to care very much about the characters and it was something of a basic story with very little in the way of twists and turns.

The President's Daughter is another great read from the Clinton / Patterson team. The book was so full of life with such fast paced action. The characters were well developed and thought out. I really enjoyed the book, I think / hope that the insider knowledge from Clinton has added to the validity of the scenario's the former president, the current president and the former President's daughter find themselves in! My only (minor) gripe was when reading the description of the weapons I felt it was unecessary to go into that level of detail, I certainly don't know the difference! I found I would gloss / skim over that little bit.

A very good enjoyable read.
Short punchy chapters keep the tension flowing Would make a good film. Looking forward to the next book

I was curious to find out whether the second standalone 'president-story' written by Bill Clinton and James Patterson will be as good as the first one. I am happy to say it is.

This is becoming a specific genre now, Independence Day and all, and I was wondering how many skins can be taken off the same goat, president-superhero-saving-the-nation type of story. I liked how this book is actually about a failed president trying to save his family only and not the nation. OK, he is still a superhero in this book, but then all SEALs are so - the book seems to be hopelessly biased in this respect.

The plot is good, although the villain starting as a badass manouvering terrorist seems to become a naive idealist at the end. The storyline is full of action, it is really hard to put down. It was also interesting to learn new things about how presidency, chain of command and politics, work in the White House.

A very good continuation of the 2 co-authors' cooperation. I am looking forward to the next one.

Tense, atmospheric, a page turning thriller which I really enjoyed. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.

Matthew Keating, ex US Navy SEAL, was Vice President & became President unexpectedly after the death of his predecessor. When he was pressured into standing down in favour of his own Vice President at the next election, he accepted a quite retirement in New England fishing, doing charitable work, maybe writing his memoirs whilst his wife Samantha accepted a professorship at a Boston university to pursue her archaeological career and their daughter Mel attended the prestigious Dartmouth College. As ex-POTUS, Matt is entitled to personal protection but this was declined by his wife & not available to his daughter after she turned sixteen. Unfortunately this decision would lead to Mel being kidnapped, her boyfriend murdered, and little support from the current President … so Matt decides to take matters into his own hands, engaging the help of those loyal to him – political/diplomatic friends, SEALs he’d served with and trusted members of his protection team.
This book took me a while to get into – the first part of the story was important but I struggled to know where the book was going for quite some time. In fact I came close to giving up by around chapter 10, as the story unfolding bore no resemblance to the summary but am glad that I stuck with it as the pace increased & it was one of those that you didn’t want to put down! I am also pleased that the “twist” in the middle happened – without it, the book would have been mediocre. I can’t help feeling that the book has been written with the film-rights in mind (hence the scene setting at the start), but there is no denying that this would make a good film!
I did a combination of reading this book & listening to the audiobook and can recommend both approaches. The multiple narrators worked very well – they had distinctive voices & you were therefore able to tell whose perspective you were hearing at that moment. It wouldn’t have worked with a single narrator!

Overall, if you like a fast-paced, action thriller with a political undertone (and can get through the first few chapters) then you will enjoy this. Whilst there is no doubt that the majority of the action thriller was crafted by Patterson, Clinton has provided a unique insight into the life of the former president, rather than the current incumbent & I can’t help feeling that Mel was possibly based somewhat on his own daughter Chelsea who would have been a similar age when he left office.

Disclosure: I received an advance reader copy of this book & audiobook free via NetGalley. Whilst thanks go to the author & publisher for the opportunity to read it, all opinions are my own.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a far review.

I really enjoyed Bill Clinton and James Pattersons' previous collaboration, The President is Missing. I was hoping this was going to be a continuation of the story and characters, but it is not. However, this is actually to the benefit as we got a new President and cast of supporting characters. Rich is well defined as believable. In a world painted by a man who has been there and lived the life. It feels right, it flows right. It a great place to be. Which is what you want from this kind of book.

The plot is fantastic and would make a fantastic movie. It really gripping and is something that you will not want to put down. The pace and narrative are spots on. It improved over the first book and an absolute cracker. The plot twists and turn, but it doesn't feel contrived in any way. The must-read thriller of 2021. Don't miss this. Solid gold thriller

With Bill Clinton’s political savvy and knowledge of the workings of the White House and James Patterson ‘s amazing writing this makes for a very good thriller. The story is about the kidnapping of POTUS’s daughter, Matthew Keating ex navy SEAL is now the ex President as he was beaten in the vote by his VP. Keating a strong and honest man tried to do his best, but his past as a navy SEAL catches up with him. Fantastic fast moving story. I really couldn’t put my Kindle down.

Another good reread from this unusual team of authors, if you have read and enjoyed The President is missing then you will probably enjoy this one too. Some great characters though not all were believable, I think I’ve watched too many Jack Ryan Netflix’s recently to be able to cope with another revenge plot.

There's nothing like a good, fast-paced thriller to break up the monotony of real life! I read James Patterson and Bill Clinton's previous collab, 'The President is Missing' and really enjoyed so was excited to read their new book.

I don't tend to read political thrillers, I'm more of a psychological thriller person, but Patterson's writing skills teamed with Clinton's insider knowledge as a former president makes these books unputdownable.

This time we're following former President Matthew Keating whose daughter is kidnapped by a wanted terrorist. What follows is lots of twists and turns, and journeys around the world as he battles for her return. The added conflict with the new President and her husband adds a bit of juice too.

They've definitely got a winning formula here so I do wonder who is going to go missing in their next book!? Hopefully they mix it up a bit otherwise it might go stale.

Don't be put off by the length if it's not your normal read - I flew through this in two sittings and it felt more like I was watching a movie!

This fast pace writing keeps me turning pages as quick as I can finish them, but then I’ve known and enjoyed Patterson’s style for a long time. What adds to this book is the knowledge that appears accurate from a presidential/government/kidnap process. One presumes Bill Clinton provides this detailed information..

This story pulls at the heart strings as much as you’d expect when someone’s daughter goes missing. While some books take you around a small maze with a kidnap story, this Patterson/Clinton writing brings so much background information, the reader feels part of the story.

You won’t need to read these writer’s previous collaboration to enjoy this story – it’s not related at all.

The attention to detail without hindering the story is what makes this feel like a film is happening in your mind. You will want the story to have a happy outcome, but understand that many more pages are coming along first.

A free copy of this book doesn’t change my review. This was an excellent read for me; this is the style I enjoy. Quick snappy chapters which means I can break for a coffee and then pick back up where I left off minutes ago.

I hope they write more together and next time I’ll control my pulse rate better.

This book is a sequel to The President is Missing by the same authors but to be honest it stands alone equally well and could be read without having read the first novel. It has the familiarity of the fast paced nature and style of a James Patterson novel but with the special insight and understanding of the White House and security services of an ex president.

In this book ex-president Matt Keating is trying to live a quieter life in a lakeside, rural location in New Hampshire. And then his daughter, Mel, is kidnapped by an old enemy and everything changes. You are taken on a roller coaster ride of what will happen next, will they find her, is she alive, is she dead etc. I found it gripping with loads of tension - a great read.

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good thriller. Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
