Overall I enjoyed this book. It was a little slow going, however, a cute romantic story. The whole jilting at the alter part wasn’t the best part and her mum was super annoying! It did set the scene though and the following storyline of a rekindled flame and finding love when you least expect it was read and written well.

The Lucky Escape by Laura Jane Williams

Annie is jilted at the alter. A little after the event she meets Patrick an old friend from her past they renew their former friendship. Annie’s should have been in-laws are so embarrassed by the events they give Annie the tickets for the honeymoon a trip to Australia and encourage her to use them.
Patrick encourages Annie to move forward with life and say yes to life’s new adventures so they travel together to Australia.

An ok read lighthearted rom-com. Quick easy read.

This is a fairytale for women, to sum it up. A bride is left by the altar, broken-hearted and disillusioned - only to realize that there might be happiness and fulfillment for her in the in the form of an old friend.
While the premise sounds cute, the execution is quite lazy in the heroine never doing the deep work of self-related journey. She is ever a victim and snowflake who had never taken responsibility for what she really wants in her life. And she is given a simply perfect, no-flaws-guy just because...because what, really? You see what I am aiming at? I would love to see more growth and self-journeying, less self-service and more of selflessness. Even in the fairytales the princesses grow out of themselves!

I listened to the audio narrated by always good Carrie Hope Fletcher, who did a superb job and made everything better.

Thank you goes to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK Audio for the copy in exchange of my frank review.

A nice easy listen made better by the (as usual) brilliant narration by Carrie Fletcher. I did get annoyed a number of times at the idiocy of the main character not knowing 'where this was going' or similar when it was blindingly obvious and made her seem a bit stupid.

But it was a nice love story and easy to listen to whilst doing something else - that's not a criticism; I think we all need that sometimes and I enjoyed it overall. It was very predictable but I don't always mind that.

I enjoyed the part in Australia the most - it made me want to go travelling again even more and I enjoyed listening to it at a time when we weren't able to travel.

Great summer book, found it took me a while to get through it as audio books and sunbathing make me fall asleep so I have to keep going back and re-listening!!

Another great book from Laura Jane Williams. Both Annie and Patrick are characters I liked and found their trip together on what was Annie’s honeymoon to be lighthearted.
A great summer read.

Overall an enjoyable read but unfortunately for me there was a little something missing.

It's a book of three parts: Pre Honey-moon; The land of Aus, and post Honey-moon. Annie, a recently jilted bride decides to take a chance, and a trip, of a lifetime with Patrick; an old friend with his own story, Together they adventure across the globe on a trip of self discovery, helping each other figure out what they want and need from life.

I throughly enjoyed the mid section of the book, and enjoyed listening to Annies self awareness develop. However, I found the beginning and the ending a little longwinded. it took me a long time to get into and then I began to zone out towards the end. I Cant quite put my finger on what was missing but I didn't adore Annie and Patrick like I hoped I would.

Its definitely an enjoyable read and one I'm glad I've done but not necessarily a must read for me.

As for the audio, I always enjoy listening to Carrie and she was a perfect fit for Annie.

A light hearted, fun read. Loved most of the characters, had me hooked throughout. A little escapism from everything going on.

I enjoyed the characters and storyline. There was no padding out the chapters that often caused me to skip read in other books.
Lovely feelings book that makes you think about yourself a little.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!

I'm a relative newbie to audio books but previously I have struggled with the narrator. That definitely wasn't the case with this one. I found the narrator engaging, immersive and enjoyable to listen to.
After Annie gets left at the altar on her wedding day, she takes herself to a bootcamp and meets an old friend who accompanies her on her honeymoon to Australia.
The pace was a little slow at. times but great escapism, armchair travel, fun and a feel good read.

The first time I have listened to a proper audiobook. I liked the story and the main characters. Not sure how I feel about audiobooks - think I am better suited to reading.

"Why is it that when we don't know what else to do, we make a cup of tea?"

I have not listened to many audio books but when I seen this one come onto Netgalley I knew I had to request it! I was so happy to be approved!
Not only had I already seen some amazing reviews of this book but it being narrated by Carrie Hope Fletcher just made it even more appealing to me!

I loved every single word of this book, it was so beautifully written and I was hooked from the first word. My felt every emotion that Annie went through and loved how much of a gentleman Patrick turned out to be. I adored watching their relationship blossom and all the adventures they went on.

Carrie Hope Fletcher made every character come to life and made me feel like I was right there with Annie and Patrick! In my opinion she was the perfect person to narrate this book. I loved it so much that I went an bought it on Audible so I can listen again!

This was my first time reading / listening to a Laura Jane Williams book but I will be definitely adding more of her books to my every growing TBR, and will 100% be recommending this to everyone.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon books for giving me the chance to review this lovely, light hearted novel.

This was my third Laura Jane Williams book and I was not disappointed. The Lucky Escape was another hilarious women’s fiction with feel good energy and real, relatable characters. The pace of the story was perfect. I was fortunate to receive both an audiobook and paperback copy of this and I alternated between the two of them. I think that Laura’s writing lends itself well to an audiobook and the humour is certainly carried through. She is definitely a must buy author for me.

This was a fantastic book. I really enjoyed it. Super summer read/listen.. Romantic, ups and downs of relationships, not predictable, good story that I do recommend.

Unfortunately, this story did not do it for me.

There is too much inner monologue and since the main character is not very likable, this got very monotonous very quickly.

There is also a lot of telling and not enough showing. This made the story quite boring after a while and I found myself not caring about the story or the characters.

Also, the one-liners randomly put in this story regarding social commentary from body shaming to feminism, you name it, was not done well. It felt like the author had a checklist and ticked which -isms she intended to include. It did not add to the story. It just made the main character quite contradictory.

So after a third try of reading this author, I think it's safe to say that this author is just not for me.

Another hit by Laura Jane Williams. Laugh out loud but covers serious subjects with sensitivity. Always love her books and can't wait to read whatever she writes next.
