I absolutely loved this audiobook. Carrie-Hope Fletcher was the perfect person to narrate this. She brought the characters to life and I felt fully immersed in the drama, holiday setting and budding romance.

This book is a perfect summer read and I can imagine reading this around the pool on holiday basking in the excitement of Annie’s self discovery. I loved how supportive her friends were, her relationship with her sister and of course, her lucky escape from a marriage that wasn’t meant to be!

I would absolutely recommend this to everyone looking for an escapist read that will sweep them up and take them to Australia with Annie and Patrick!!!

4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5.

This book is so great!

I liked how the relationship between Patrick and Annie grows and how much they enjoy each other’s company during the holiday. I also really love how after they come back things turn real really quickly and while they struggle, they still manage to fight for what is good.
All in all the plot is great and the characters are greater. And this is overall a brilliant book!

This is a Women's Fiction/Chick-Lit/Romance. I have to say I found this book to be very slow moving, and I also found this book like a lot of other romance books. This book I found just ok. The characters did not pop off the page. I just wanted more from this book. I listen to the audiobook for this book, and I really think the narrator did a good job with the audiobook. I was kindly provided an e-audiobook of this book by the publisher (Avon) or author (Laura Jane Williams) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I don’t very often pick up romance books but I did enjoy this one! I listened to it on Audibook thanks to Netgalley UK.

It followed the usual romance theme - a break up, a new found love, another setback and then a happy ending. So in that sense, it wasn’t really anything different. However, that being said, for someone who doesn’t often read romances, i did this was exactly what I needed - light, refreshing and fun, with a much needed happy ending.

I adored listening to The Lucky Escape. The story hooked me straight away and entertained me throughout. The characters were great and I really liked Annie.
Highly recommended.

Laura Jane Williams books always warm my heart a little especially the way they include the lgbt community even when not relevant to the plot. Both this and Williams previous book include characters with they/them pronouns and it just feels refreshing and her world feel believe able. I think this was a lovely little story even if a little predictable it was a comfort read. Particularly loved the brief mention of bridges from TSQ

That’s to net galley for an advanced Audio book.

A lot of rom-coms have an unrealistic premise, and this story is no different. That said, if you take the story for what it is - a romantic comedy that is a few parts silly, a few parts romance and a few parts light-hearted fun - you will enjoy The Lucky Escape. Could the author have written stronger characters and a stronger story - sure should could have. But I enjoyed this light-hearted listen and would pick up another book by this author.

A very good audiobook, and the narrator's voice is so good and suits the characters pretty well. The audiobook is a 5 star rating...

It is a good book. I really enjoyed it... I loved , like literally LOVED, Patrick and Freddie. Hated Judy wiig, the Mother, and Alexander and was neutral on the father and Annie. I liked how Annie's character developed... Patrick's way of seeing life through the most in the moment lense 😂, but also learning to carry some responsibility and think a little before just going for things...

What made this book not reach the 5 stars for me is the ending... I felt that the author was overdoing it a little during Annie's and Patrick's post fight period, you know?

It was overall agood book, but not quite 5 stars... Just 4 stars (maybe 4 and a half if I'm being generous, sorry)

**Thanks to the author and publishing house for providing me with a free copy in exchange for a review**

I thought the premise of this book was really good and I was so excited to see how it played out!

At times I could really resonate with Annie’s character and her journey of trying to find out who she is after being in such a long term relationship. The idea of being “too much but also not enough” really struck a chord with me and I think the first section of the book worked really well to show the stages of her breakup.

Once Annie and Patrick went on the honeymoon it didn’t quite take the fun flirty path that I was expecting. Their emotions seemed to get really serious really quickly and I didn’t understand Patrick being really jealous and not wanting her to talk about her ex. I think it may have worked better for me if it had started as a rebound/fling and then they developed feelings.

Patrick still has a lot to deal with from his past relationship but it was so frustrating how these two characters just could not communicate with each other. They both acted really immature towards the end and unfortunately it left me not really rooting for them to be together.

Overall I did enjoy this book and it was a quick read! I found myself more interested in Annie’s journey and growth rather than the romance. The cast of characters is also really diverse which is lovely to see.

When I saw the blurb for this audio copy of The Lucky Escape on NetGalley, I thought this would be perfect for my next read, and it's was okay but not a perfect one.

The storyline was fun and cute in places, but I felt it drag a bit. Annie and Patrick, the main characters, were likeable; not sure I thought they had great chemistry together. There were a few tender moments when Annie started to realise, looking back over her relationship with Alexander, that although no one wanted to be left at the altar, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.

I like Annie’s sister Freddie and the diversity of the secondary characters.

Audiobooks can be hit and miss because if you don't like the voice, it can take away your enjoyment of the book. I felt this happened here a little bit; the narrator was okay, but there were a few questionable accents.

Overall it was a light read about self-discovery. I would read something else by this author, perhaps not an audio version.

3.5 stars

An uplifting modern romantic comedy and perfect holiday read, set mainly in London and Australia. Annie and Alexander have been together since university, and now they are getting married. Everything seems perfect until Annie arrives at the church in her wedding dress to find the wedding planner panicking. Alexander is not coming and he hasn't even bothered to tell Annie. Alexander's parents are adamant that Annie should still use the luxury honeymoon and when Annie has a chance meeting with a friend from her childhood she starts to think they might be right.

Beautifully narrated and a great story. It was wonderful to imagine the Australian sunshine instead of lockdown in England. Annie was very down to earth and likeable and it was lovely to witness her awakening and growth.

I mainly enjoyed this book. The travel aspect of Annie's honeymoon was so interesting to read, especially in a time when travel hasn't been so simple.

However, I didn't love the romance in this book. I felt there was little to no chemistry between Annie and Patrick, and it felt too soon after her break up for Annie to start something serious. I would have preferred something more along the line of Annie and her friends going on the holiday.

I didn't love how STEM was portrayed in this book either. Both main characters are involved in the field, but I feel a lot of the representation in there was quite stereotypical.

This review has been made possible thanks to @NetGalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is about Annie, who is left at the altar by her fiancé and partner of 10 years. Feeling unmotivated with her job, reuniting with an old friend, Patrick, and then getting an offer from her would-have-been in-laws to use her 3-week non-refundable honeymoon. After a total of 6 weeks off, Annie comes back with a new fighting spirit in all aspects of life. But will it be enough to talk to her boss, confront her mum about the unhealthy comments she hears all the time, and finally face her ex and divide up their house?

I thought the story was really engaging, funny, and honest. The gang of girlfriends is a very nice touch, as most people have some sort of group chat going. I loved the dynamic between Patrick and Annie, the fun flirty banter and you know I love a good fake-relationship trope. This book talks about a lot of important issues, and it looks into them in a very respectable manner. The only flaw I saw was the communication between the characters was poor at times, as is befitting the romantic comedy genre and tests.

Overall, I think this will be one of the cornerstone books for this summer, as this has all the perfect summery vibes, a nice, easy read, and really fun characters. Plus, with the audiobook, I absolutely loved @carriehopefletcher narrating it, I didn't even realise it was her until I started listening to it and was so pleasantly surprised!

Will this be your summer read?

After being ditched at the altar, Annie sets out to put her life on track. She then bumps into a long lost friend, Patrick, and after some deliberation decides to still go on her honeymoon… taking Patrick along with her.

This book is perfect if you want to escape on a lavish holiday away! The honeymoon in Australia was well portrayed and the development of Annie and Patrick’s relationship was done just right.

I loved the idea that the romance element wasn’t the sole part of the book. Although this is a RomCom, this book was also about turning a new page in your life and finding yourself. You definitely see how Annie develops as a character throughout this book and go along on this journey with her.

I listened to this on audiobook and I thought the narrator did a great job. This is a fun summer read, even if it was a little predictable in parts.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books for my ARC.

The Lucky Escape - Laura Jane Williams

Raced through it! Such a great little read, perfect beach read/sunbathing in the garden reading. This type of book can sometimes feel like it has quite a lot of filler material, but I did not find this at all with The Lucky Escape. We were thrown straight into the story with a dramatic beginning (Annie being left at the alter, after being in a relationship with Alexander for so many years) and then got to follow Annie recover from it in a spectacular way. Obviously not all happy endings get straight there so there were a few bumps in the road, but it made me all the more willing of Annie to find her peace in life and with family relationships. Thanks you so much Avon Books and NetGalley for the E-ARC in return for my honest thoughts.

I enjoyed this audiobook, which is a good book to read in the summer time. The story is about a woman called Annie who got stood up at the altar and then went on to go on her honeymoon to Australia with her friend Patrick. Annie tries to find herself again after her heartbreak, so she is a bit up and down before she finds her happiness.

I liked the narrator of this audiobook, who did a good job.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Carrie Hope Fisher returns to narrating another Laura Jane Williams book. A wise choice as she has an engaging, clear voice that brings ‘The Lucky Escape’ to life’

If I had any quibble it’s the attempt at an ‘ocker’ Australian accent (think Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin), but I found it more funny that annoying.

While I enjoyed the premise of this novel, I did find it slow to start with and the last bit of the novel not so great with the characters and where they went. One thing about audiobooks is you can have the best narrator but it can highlight the bits that drag along, whereas with more a book where you can skim. I think I’d have liked the book to get much closer to the ‘escape’ faster than a lot of the preamble that set it up. This was something I found with One Stop, another LJW book which I enjoyed but it could’ve truncated down some bits.

3.5 stars. It’s a solid book and the narration is excellent but the bits that dragged really dragged,

The Lucky Escape is a charming story of moving on and creating a life that brings joy to you and those around you. Both Annie and Patrick are extremely likeable and it felt like they found each other again at the perfect time in their lives. I felt engaged throughout the book and felt the story to be a heartwarming, easy read.

The honeymoon trip to Australia was a time of healing for both Annie and Patrick. It was interesting to see them rebuild a friendship that brought out the best in one another. I appreciated their time in Australia and the many tourist activities the two participated in. There were many humorous moments which balanced the more serious times of self reflection.

I listened to the audiobook version of The Lucky Escape which was narrated by Hope Fletcher. Her performance was articulate and enthusiastic and highly entertaining. I would not hesitate to recommend this version of the book those those who appreciate audiobooks.

I read this book both as an audiobook and as an ebook and I liked them both, but I must admit the narrator made a really great job, so I'm a bit partial to the audio version.
The story is nice and I appreciated the fact that it was quite not about the romance, but more about self growth and finding one real self. The best part of the story is definitely the honeymoon in Australia, which I really enjoyed. It is when we get to know Annie and Patrick better, and also discover things of their past that explain why they are how they are.
A lovely read!

Thank you @netgalley and @avonbooksuk and @laurajaneauthor for the advanced copy of the lucky escape.

Really loved the narration by Carrie Hope Fletcher.

Annie is ditched at the altar on her wedding day and is now rebuilding herself back up.

Whilst exercising she meets up with Patrick. Someone from her past and invites him to join her in Australia.

One cancelled wedding, one unexpected encounter and one spare ticket for honeymoon.

Annie has the opportunity to rebuild her life and be able to do things for herself. Along the way there are decisions to be made and learning to do things that make her happy.

I really enjoyed the book and it was nice easy light hearted read.
