This is a unique book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It involves time travel which is a genre that captivates me. I loved the message from the story and the quirky characters. The Zpolish peasant was my favorite.

Where the Stork Flies by Linda C. Wisniewski is an adult sci-fi/fantasy book involving time travel. The story revolves around Kat, who has been abandoned by her ex-husband and daughter. Suddenly, a strange woman speaking Polish appears on her doorstep. It turns out she is a time traveler, and she brings Kat along the ride back to a 19th-century Polish village. There, she meets her own ancestors. What will Kat discover about them and about her own life?

Here is an exciting excerpt from Chapter 1 when Kat discovers a strange woman on her doorstep:

"The winter Regina arrived, I had a lot on my mind. My part-time job at the public library was going nowhere. My husband had left me over a crazy misunderstanding, and our 19-year-old daughter, who had always favored him, blamed me and followed him out the door. Lonely and confused by the turn my life had taken, I stumbled into the kitchen that morning and found the back door standing open, letting in a few flakes of snow.
Get a grip. I slammed the door closed. A whimper came from behind me. I whirled around to see an old woman in a long brown skirt, loose white blouse, and a muslin headscarf. She stood beside y kitchen table, shivering. A scream escaped my throat and then hers, both of us yelling like a crazy banshee duet."

Overall, Where the Stork Flies is a time travel story that will appeal to fans of Outlander. One highlight of this story is the Polish language and culture that permeate the story. I have never read any books in this setting before, and I'm happy to have learned something from reading this book. I did take off 2 stars, because I felt that the flow of the story was slower than I would have liked. I'm sure many readers will enjoy the leisurely pace though. This was a great story of family and friends and time travel! I loved the beautiful writing and the great story!

I enjoyed the twist this book took on the time-traveler trope by having the main character be the person who encounters the time traveler, instead of having been lost in time themselves. It was super interesting and a really fun read, but unfortunately I did not love the writing style of any of the characters so I'm giving it 3 stars.

In WHERE THE STORK FLIES, Kat discovers Regina, a time traveler from 19th century Poland, in her kitchen on a blustery winter day.

The first part of the book is about Regina traveling forward in time, as told from Kat’s POV, which I though was clever. Time travel stories are usually told from the POV of the time traveler and not from the POV of the person who first encounters the time traveler.

I laughed aloud when Regina & Kat took to the internet and Googled time travel so they could figure out how to return Regina to 19th Century Poland. Modern day problems, need modern day solutions, and most problems in the 21st Century can be solved with a quick Google search!

I was a bit baffled that they discovered a method for time travel about halfway through the book and then abandoned it? As a reader I kept asking myself, why couldn’t they just use that method again? It probably would have been better for the reader if they hadn’t discovered it at all.

There’s a lot of Polish culture and religious lore woven into the story, along with themes of abandonment, abuse (physical and sexual), overcoming trauma and finding your inner strength. Overall, WHERE THE STORK FLIES is a solid read and would appeal to anyone who enjoys time travel stories in the vein of Outlander.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book, but I really enjoyed it. I always enjoy time-travel books but this one was interesting because sometimes the characters time-travelled on purpose and there was a reason for it. I liked the mystery of the beginning and the full circle connection at the end. I would definitely be interested in reading more by this author. Initially the cover of the book captured my attention and the storyline was interesting. I personally couldn’t connect with the characters and felt the style of writing isn’t for me I struggled through most the book but I admire the concept and would be interested in reading other works from this author

I love time travel books, this book was written slightly differently which was interesting.
I think the pacing was a little off, and there was a lot of repetition, which I didn't love.
The growth of the protagonist was lacking for me. It has nice moments, but wasn't really for me.

Beautifully written, this book will remind you of the simplest forms of happiness in life. Set in a small town in Pennsylvania and a small village called Mala Laka in Poland, the author had wonderfully described the setting, the sceneries, different Polish delicacies, churches, and traditions. With delightful, funny, relatable, and adorable characters, this was an entertaining and heart-warming read. I love the extraordinary friendship that formed with the main characters.

The story follows, Katherine, a fifty-year-old, librarian, was left by her husband and daughter. One winter morning, she met a mysterious stranger in her kitchen. Kat felt a strange connection with Regina that she decided to help Regina find her way home through the utmost help of a language translator.

Overall, this was a riveting story that would surely capture your heart. If you like stories about time travel, unconditional love, friendship, forgiveness, courage, and hope, I would recommend this book to you.
