Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney

Amelia and Adam are having troubled in their marriage. So when their marriage counsellor suggests a weekend away, just as a free weekend to an old renovated chapel in Scotland is won, they take the opportunity to try and salvage their marriage. However, as soon as they arrive at Blackwater Chapel, in a snow storm, they soon discover the place they will be staying in isn’t as quaint as they expected.

Alice Feeney has cleverly written a suspense filled thriller, that leaves you undoubtedly shocked at how the story ends. This novel is full of twists and turns, none of which you will expect.

I feel a mixture of things about this book. The ending was the best part for me - the final twists really brought the book together. Whilst I enjoyed the ending, I found some parts of the book quite slow. There were times when I found myself skimming, instead of actually reading. As a reader, I had more questions than answers as I continued on through the book - it wasn’t until the last 20% of the book that everything starts to make sense and you start to understand the book as a whole. Reflecting on the book, I do actually like the fact it all made sense at the end, rather than the readers questions being answer throughout - I had an ‘ohhhhh’ moment when it was all finally explained. It was like a penny dropping as all the pieces of the puzzle finally slotted together.

I also liked the different point of views throughout this novel, it helped build the bigger picture and added another dimension to the book. Once I had the ‘ohhhhh’ moment, I did go back through the book to different view points to understand fully who had said what.

The ending really saved this book for me! If you like Harriet Tyce, I think you’d like this book!

After having read previous titles by Alice Feeney I was very pleased to be given an advanced readers copy of her latest book, ‘Rock Paper Scissors’

This latest offering tells the story of a couple sharing ten years of marriage and the letters that have been written over the time of their marriage, culminating in an anniversary they will never forget. Travelling to a remote location in Scotland, Adam and Amelia have planned a romantic trip to save their marriage, however when the trip takes a dark turn, lies are uncovered and it’s clear the future may not be as planned, for either of them.

As always with Alice’s books, her writing draws you in completely before diverting you in a totally different direction and this book was no exception. Just when I thought I’d figured it out I was then thrown off course again, right up until the very last page! There were a few occasions where I got a bit confused as to what was happening and some chapters go slightly off track at times I found but overall this was a good thriller, keeping you on your toes until the very end. Have heard it will soon be a Netflix series so will definitely be one to watch! I look forward to reading more by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Books for the advanced readers copy.

Oh my goodness. Well lets start the first ten pages I though meh.... and then it going. I had no idea the red herrings, the ending and then the ending. (it will make sense).

I am so glad I read this - it was amazing.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

“Ten years of marriage.
Ten years of secrets.
An anniversary they’ll never forget.

Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend in the Scottish Highlands. The remote location is perfect for what they have planned.

But when their romantic trip takes a dark turn, they both start to wonder – can they trust the one they’re with?

Because every couple tells little white lies. Only for Adam and Amelia, the truth is far more dangerous.“

SO many twists packed into this, some I was not surprised by and some shook me.
A bit of a slow burn, but each chapter ends on a cliffhanger to keep me going back.
I’m not a huge fan of multi POV / timeline and do feel that in this case I got so muddled I’ve lost some of the momentum.
If you loved His & Hers then this is written very similarly, I think, so you’ll enjoy this too.

Holy Moly Alice Feeney gives us another ending that is 🤯! A year later and I still think about Sometimes I Lie! Adam and Amelia won a weekend getaway to the Scotland highlands. It sounds romantic, but it’s not - this is a make it or break it effort. Adam has face blindness and at first they were able to manage & adjust, but now it’s a burden on their marriage. They arrive at a chapel and it’s creepy asf, this is so twisty and suspenseful! Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

Amelia and Adams marriage isn’t the best, every couple tells little white lies but for this couple, the truth is more shocking.
After winning a trip to the Scottish highlands in a work raffle, the weekend could be make or break for the pair.

Told between the perspectives of husband, wife and letters which she had written to him throughout the years of their marriage I was HOOKED! Brilliantly written, the lies unravelled and the twists kept coming. The chapters ended with little cliffhangers that kept me wanting more! If I could of stayed in the sofa and finished this in one sitting I would of! A gripping twisty page turner 👏🏼

OMG just finished this fabulous new thriller (with horror vibes) by Alice Feeney. I was drawn in from page 1 and loved how the chapters swapped between husband and wife Amelia and Adam telling their stories in their own words. Also loved Robin’s character and all the spookiness surrounding her. So many twists and turns and the hours went so quickly I was disappointed when I finished. It’s a book I could read all over again and sure I will! Can’t recommend this one enough guys! Get our there and buy yourself a copy. A most definite 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the way Alice Feeney writes. Everything is so keenly observed and the characters just jump out of the page. Love the twists and turns and how it is written from different perspectives. Totally had me engrossed right to the final word!

This was really creepy with a hint of horror.
I found it hard to believe a couple in strife would choose to go to the middle of nowhere in a blizzard for a weekend away to reconnect, despite it being a freebie but once you get past the unlikeliness of a sparring couple going through that drive you get swept up in the story, told in the anniversary letters and the real time experiences of the pair.
A truly creepy house, formerly a chapel, complete with dodgy electrics, locked doors, a crypt, strange goings on and creepy coincidences fuels the imagination and transports you directly to Scotland in all its freezing majesty and isolation.
The twist was clever, unexpected and thought provoking but mostly I found myself wanting to shout out loud to not go in the cellar/belltower/locked room!
and breathe!

Tension Laden Suspense....
After ten years of marriage Adam and Amelia take a break to Scotland, in the hope of injecting some much needed romance back into their relationship. A weekend in the remote Scottish Highlands sounds perfect. It’s not long, however, before things take a very dark turn indeed. The trouble is, can the couple trust each other? A dark and twisting, tension laden suspense with credible characters and a heavy, brooding atmospheric feel. Top class.

I could not put this down and I am already planning to re read it again, because I am so impressed at how the author managed to sneak all those twists past me! I was absolutely hooked from the first page, and the scene setting for the characters was getting my heart rate up before anything had even happened from the pure tension and atmosphere the author created. The setting of the book in the creepy church conversion was perfect for this novel and gave it that eerie vibe, which added to the suspense and tension between the two.

I think the best way to read this book is to go in knowing nothing so I’m not going to spoil much. I will say though, that the .way the book was crafted was so cleverly done that when I got to the last section of the book after the big twist, I had to step away for a minute because I was so mind blown. And then they keep coming! It’s definitely one of those ones you want to re read now to see where the clues were. I devoured this all in one sitting because I couldn’t stop reading, it was a complete page turner and I can’t wait for the series.

I have already screamed at everyone to read this book the minute it comes out, and I will continue to tell everyone I know to read it because it was one of my favourite reads of the year so far. A must read !!!

I was over the moon to receive an advanced copy of Rock Paper Scissors and I was not disappointed. Wow! What a book!
Another 5 star read from the wonderful Alice Feeney! Her books are always absolutely fantastic and this one is no exception.

Set in a remote location in Scotland, a married couple go away for the weekend as a final attempt to save their marriage. Things start to go horribly wrong and they find they can no longer trust each other. The atmosphere adds to the story perfectly and, as always, the twists and turns are superb.
I was gripped from the very first page until the very last and I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

My favourite read of 2021 so far!

Adam and Amelia have been seeing a marriage counsellor who suggested they get away for some time together, then Amelia wins a weekend in a remote cottage in the Scottish Highlands. They set off on the journey in really bad weather, and a car that’s not really equipped for an eight-hour journey.

They eventually arrive at the right place and discover that the cottage is actually a converted chapel. They’ve hardly spoken during the journey, apart from some sniping at each other, because Adam really didn’t want to come on this weekend away. They discover things about each other that they didn’t know, and they’ve both been lying to each other.

This had me hooked from the start and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

Adam and Amelia take a weekend away, to a remote place, because the counsellor told them it might save their marriage. I will not say too much more, for fear of spoiling the plot, which is excellent, but the characters are well drawn and the novel kept me reading, it was a real page turner. A gripping read. I could not put the book down until I had finished. I would happily recommend the novel and thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me an advance copy of this book.

This is my first book by Alice Feeney and it definitely will not be my last, I loved it. It has a twist or a turn when you are least expecting it and it was a well thought out plot that you wonder what will happen through out the story. But what you find you are least expecting. It is all about husband and wife Adam and Amelia who are having a weekend away in a remote place. Things start to go wrong, but can they trust each other? Lies, betrayals and secrets will soon be discovered but at what price will they have to pay? I didn't want to put the book down even to sleep. It was just that good. I am glad to hear it will be turned into a Netflix series as I thought it would be a great story played out on screen.

This is the story of Adam and Amelia. After ten years of marriage the fractures in their relationship are beginning to splinter. But all is well. Amelia comes up with a weekend away in the Scottish Highlands to sort out years of marital failings. Adam isn't so keen. The drive up sets the scene, the banter dripping with razor sharp sniping. The derelect, former church cements the idea that this might not be the brightest of ideas.... Let the story unfold.
Feeney has a way with words. She takes an ordinary sentence only to flip it on its head. A remarkable talent. She also has a way with characters. The breakdown of Adam and Amelia's marriage is almost a tad too realistic for comfort, the reader playing the part of unwilling voyeur as the snipes hit their intended target. The plot is tightly knit leaving no room for doubt - Both husband and wife have more than a rocky relationship to repair, An easy 5 stars from me.
