As read the first few pages I was filled with “oh dear what have I let myself in for” and not in a good way. I looked at all the very positive good reviews this book has had and decided I had better plough on. I am so glad I did. I was soon swept up in the drama of it all. And I thought the final denouement was very clever.
Admittedly some parts of the plot are silly or at best unconvincing but overall this was an entertaining read.

Netflix have a brilliant series / film on their hands with this book. Absolutely loved it. Would recommend to any friend and really thoroughly romped through the read.

I neasly didn't finish this book - which is actually a testament to how well written it was. It was so atmospheric and tense that it was stressing me out! I was almost dreading what would happen next and my imagination was running away with me. The clever writing and plotting is compelling and although it is only near to the end that it all falls into place, it is worth reading just to get to that!

A well written thriller with twists and turns.

A couple go on a Scottish break to celebrate their anniversary and hopefully mend the cracks in their marriage. But this remote converted chapel holds many secrets and one of them may not be returning home.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

This was a very enjoyable read for me , I loved the eerie setting of the converted chapel with a history and the setting on a Lochside in Scotland made for a very atmospheric setting .Amelia & Adam a married couple are really not getting along and a weekend away in a remote Scottish holiday home seems like the answer to all their problems . Both are harbouring secrets and as eerie and creepy things start happening their trust of each other is pushed to the limit . I found neither party very likeable , but was captivated , especially by the anniversary letters from every year that were written but not sent . Very good twist that I didn't see coming . A great read and would recommend

A twisty thriller inn the style of her previous works and for fans of Erin Kelly. The book takes us on a journey of unreliable narrators to the wilds of Scotland in a snowstorm. Two points of view, or is it three? By playing aiong with the sense of disorientation that the storm brings Feeney takes the reader on a bizarre journey going back in time using journals and letters as well as "present day" commentary.
Its a masterpiece and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Brilliant! This was such a gripping and intriguing story, it really helps me hooked as I tried to work out what was going to happen but I didn’t see the twist coming! A really well written story about relationships, the lies we tell and the secrets we keep.

I absolutely loved this book. It had twists and turns to the story that I honesly didn't see coming. These twists are exactly what I love in a good thriller book!

I think the story will be one that people may have mixed reviews on but I would definitely recommend reading this one.

Another great read from Alice Feeney about a married couple spending a weekend trip in a remote part of the Scottish Highlands. However this is a couple with trust issues and what follows is a brilliant story which keeps you guessing to the end. Brilliantly written I would recommend this.

Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend in the Scottish Highlands. The remote location is perfect for what they have planned. But when their romantic trip takes a dark turn, they both start to wonder – can they trust the one they’re with? Because every couple tells little white lies. Only for Adam and Amelia, the truth is far more dangerous.

This was quick, not too in-depth but a good overall romantic thriller. I wouldn't say it kept me full of suspense, but I did enjoy reading it and I would recommend it to others. It just lacked that little bit of something that makes the story gripping where you are not able to stop reading.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5/5.

A well written thriller which builds with tension throughout the book.

When you think you know what the story is building towards, you are twisted in a different direction.

I love the way the chapters are set with the POV from the characters.

A dark read which I found fascinating, one that will play on my mind and one I would strongly recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. Having read Alice Feeney in the past I was not disappointed. The characters were very believable and the subtle twist at the end was very unepxpected, I will recommend this for our book club.

Rock Paper Scissors

This is the second of Alice Feeney’s books I’ve read. It didn’t disappoint. Adam and Amelia are married, in a last ditch attempt to save their marriage they take advantage of the weekend away in a remote Scottish converted chapel that Amelia has won in a raffle. However when they arrive the whole village seems to be deserted & it seems like someone or something doesn’t want them in Blackwater. Add in the fact that Adam has a medical condition which means he is unable to recognise faces & you have a recipe for disaster...or a bloomin good thriller. We also get an insight into their marriage in the form of anniversary letters. I’ve read a few reviews saying that the plot is too far fetched, but honestly I don’t agree. It was twisty, strange and I was kept guessing throughout. The plot twist caught me completely off guard too. I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to read ‘Sometimes I Lie’. Huge thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.

Having read previous novels by Alice Fenney, I was excited to hear that she had a new one on the horizon. Even more excited when my request on NetGalley was approved to read it early in exchange for my honest review.

So here we go…

I found Rock Paper Scissors difficult to get in to and keeping up with the characters was not easy. This wasn’t helped by its nonlinear structure; nonlinear structure, now there’s an oxymoron !!

There was however one big twist at the very end that I did not anticipate at all. But still unfortunately only rating this one 3 stars out of 5 stars as I felt disappointed the majority of the way through.
Thank you #NetGalley for my advanced ecopy of #rockpaperscissors

Rating: 4.6/5

My first experience of Alice Feeney's writing was her previous release, "His & Hers". Although I enjoyed it, I didn't think it ranked amongst the very best books in the genre. However, her latest offering, "Rock Paper Scissors" certainly does!

It is difficult to go too far into the plot without giving away annoying spoilers and ruining other readers' enjoyment of the experience, so I will do no more than refer you to the official synopsis. As with the author's previous novel this is written in a style that is quite filmic. It doesn't surprise me in the least that the book has already been optioned and is going to brought to the television screen by Netflix.

At its heart, this is essentially a domestic suspense thriller - and a very fine example it is too. When you read a lot of books from the mystery thriller genre you do tend to become quite adept at piecing together the various parts of the puzzle well before the solution is formally revealed. I can honestly say that I did not manage to achieve that with this novel. There were various tracks that I thought the story might go down, but Alice Feeney kept managing to surprise me by taking matters in a slightly different direction to the one I had envisaged. It has to be said that any misdirection is handled in a legitimate fashion, rather than cheating and simply pulling a rabbit out of the hat. This is much more a case of careful planning and plotting on the part of the author. I am not aware of the influences there may have been on Alice Feeney's writing, but at times I picked up hints of Stephen King, but I also sensed an atmospheric menace akin to the work of Daphne du Maurier.

I can heartily recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys quality, suspenseful mystery writing and I will certainly be back for the author's next book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

Ten years of marriage. Ten years of secrets. Adam and Amelia are spending the weekend in the Scottish Highlands to see if they can save their marriage. But when their romantic trip takes a dark turn they both start to wonder - can they trust the on they're with?

I really liked the structure of the book, with alternating POVs and that it meant there were little cliff-hangers throughout. After the initial setting the scene and things started to pick up you were on the edge of your seat with hints being dropped and trying to work out had planned what?

I thought I'd started to put the pieces together but I couldn't have been further from the truth. And then there was this huge twist which I really loved, I believe I actually gasped out loud. I was hooked throughout with the secrets and slightly creepy atmosphere that was created. Just fantastic!

Thank you NetGalley, HQStories and Alice Feeney for my copy in return for a review

My mind hasn’t been so colossally blown in a long time. Wow, how absolutely enjoyable.

A married couple, a weekend away as a last ditch shot to see if a relationship can be salvaged, truths, lies, and everything in between. As the story unfolds, we are treated to insightful snippets in the form of annual anniversary letters that Adam (who suffers from face blindness) will never read. Through these letters and the perspectives of each protagonist Alice Feeney weaves a masterpiece of suspense and intrigue, with some really incredible twists.

Thank you NetGalley and HQ for a review copy.

A fantastic, thrilling 5 star read!

Amelia and her screen writer husband, Adam, are travelling from their home in London to a converted Chapel in the highlands of Scotland for a weekend break that Amelia won in a raffle. The weather is dreadful to say the least with a powerful snow storm and howling wind making driving conditions treacherous. When they eventually find the place it is deserted and altogether creepy. Their short stay is peppered with strange goings-on and they cannot help wondering if the place is haunted.

The story is told from the point of view of Amelia, Adam and a woman named Robin who stays in the cottage near the Chapel. It also has a series of letters which have been written one each year over the course of a decade.

Having read all of the previous books written by this author you would think I would have been prepared for the twists and turns but no I was genuinely gobsmacked by the turn of events.

A solid 5 star read which I highly recommend you read for yourself. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book.
