Adam and Amelia travel to Scotland to try and fix the cracks in their marriage but when there lot is secrets and lies are revealed.
This is a fast paced domestic thriller which at times I felt was little to unbelievable. I enjoyed the twist at the end but over all it was a little far fetched for me

Brilliant fast pace thriller that kept me guessing throughout. At times I had to remember to breathe I became so engrossed. I've been recommending it to everyone right from reading the first 10 minutes. Cracking story

Overall, an enjoyable read by Alice Feeney. Rock Paper Scissors follows married couple Adam and Amelia who have won a weekend away to Scotland, only to find when they arrive that they will be staying in a creepy converted chapel in the middle of nowhere. Tense and twisty, with one twist I would never have seen coming and I’d be surprised if many people do.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a bit of a slow burner for me. I enjoyed it but didn't feel like it grabbed my attention as much as I thought it was. It had a couple of twists that I didn't expect and it was a good book to read. I was disappointed in it a bit though, I thought it was going to have me engrossed more and on the end of my seat but it just didn't have that effect unfortunately.

I can only give a very brief review of this one, it’s a thriller surrounding a married couple going away to fix their marriage in a remote location (I rolled my eyes too) and it is my first Feeney book though His & Hers has been on my shelf a while after I saw a few good reviews

I always struggle to review thrillers for fear of spoiling anything. I find them frustrating when they have too many obvious plot points and twists – Rock Paper Scissors wasn’t too bad, I wanted a quick engaging read and that is what I got. I didn’t expect a masterpiece, I wanted immediate entertainment that I didn’t need to think too much about and that I could just leave once I’d finished.

I read it in two sittings. Which is quick for me. I wanted to know everything and even though the narrators were all unreliable and caused a few more dramatic eye rolls, I definitely got pulled in all the way through which is a win for me right now. I enjoyed the guessing and I’m definitely going to pick up Feeney’s other books but, as I’m not a thriller lover – they will be from the library or second hand/borrowed and if they are as creepy as this one occasionally was I’ll be reading them in the day time.

Adam and Amelia are married but both keeping secrets. When they go to a remote Scottish hideaway for a break - to try to save their marriage - but all is not as it seems.

This book started off so strong for me. I really liked the writing and the layout. I was hooked from the first page and the tension between Adam and Amelia was palpable. However, my attention wandered through the middle and I had to force myself to continue. The storyline became massively unrealistic and silly. I did finish it but just to see what happened. There are a few twists towards the end but it was altogether too much on the side of "seriously??" for me.

Well written, so hard to put this book down! Great story and interesting characters. Did not want this book to end!

I was sent a copy of Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney to read and review by NetGalley. As with her previous novels this book has plenty of twists and turns, however I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much. I found that it was a bit repetitive and, for the story it contained, overly long. The characters were well drawn, although there were a couple of things that for me just didn’t ring true, for example: Adam suffered with Prosopagnosia, or face blindness, meaning that he couldn’t recognize people from their faces, but he was fine with their stature, mannerisms, hair..... and clothing, which is where I feel the issue lies. He may not have known this particular person’s face but would certainly have recognized their distinctive and habitual style of clothing! Niggles aside, it was still an atmospheric and sometimes creepy read with more than one unexpected revelation woven in.

Intriguing blurb. I loved His & Hers so this one was a must. So cleverly written and the flow of the book really works. I was actually excited from the first chapter. It’s grabs you at the beginning but lags in the middle and I found myself disengaging a little but it picked up again towards the end. The characters are a little love/hate but that really adds to the story. What I loved about it is you actually don’t know where it’s going. Your absorbing the information but your mind is running in all different directions. Really gripping read and would definitely recommend especially if you loved His & Hers.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 19th of Aug.

My thanks to HQ for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ by Alice Feeney in exchange for an honest review.

This is Alice Feeney’s fourth novel and I felt that she really excelled in terms of building up the suspense and delivering on the twisty twists. This is another novel that I consider is best read without much information about its plot.

So just to set the scene: February 2020 and Adam and Amelia are heading to Blackwater in the Scottish Highlands for a romantic weekend break. Yet as the weather closes in, their situation takes a dark turn.

Adam is a screenwriter and Amelia works at Battersea Dogs Home and they are accompanied on the trip by Bob, their black Labrador rescue. Adam has a neurological glitch, prosopagnosia, which means he cannot see distinguishing features on faces, including his own. These details are well utilised by Feeney. There is also another main character living in Blackwater but it’s probably best to discover them while reading.

Like many in the psychological thriller sub genre the story is told from different character perspectives. Set among these characters’ chapters are others titled for the traditional anniversary gifts as well as rock, paper, scissors. These fill in background and provide tantalising clues.

A nice touch was that each chapter is headed with a small illustration: for example Amelia’s is a dog and Adam’s a typewriter.

I was fascinated by Adam’s condition. I have always thought that face blindness was the inability to recall faces but Feeney makes it clear that it is more than this.

This proved to be one of those books that I found almost impossible to put down. The Highlands setting was well realised and I appreciated the vivid descriptions of snow drifts and the other wintery aspects during the recent hot weather.

I was impressed by ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ and enjoyed it very much.

This book is seriously spooky! I always read just before going to sleep and found myself having to look at something a bit more lighthearted after a few chapters!

Rock Paper Scissors follows the story of Alice and Adam, a struggling couple who go for a weekend away to a remote chapel in the Scottish Highlands to try and save their marriage. It doesn't take long before we realise that the chapel is not going to provide the romantic getaway that was planned with lots of mysterious goings on and talk of witches and ghosts.

I found myself thinking I'd figured out the twist with every new chapter I finished, but as I got further through the book, it became apparent that it was nothing I could have expected. I didn't overly relate to any of the characters in this book, but found the story gripping enough to keep me engaged. The setting and imagery in this book really do add to the story and it genuinely was very creepy in places.

Overall, I would recommend this book and I will certainly read more by this author.

My thanks to the Netgalley, the author and the publisher for sending me the ARC in return for an honest review.

<i><b>"Can a weekend away save a marriage?"</b></i> Amelia and Adam win a weekend away to a remote Scottish chapel and are hoping by the end of it they've fixed the issues they're having with their relationship but in typical thriller fashion - all is not as it seems.

I enjoyed this and read it fairly quickly, as I do love a novel from multiple perspectives, but the plot twists and storylines were a little too far fetched for me. I personally prefer a more down to earth believable narrative.

When Amelia and Adam go on a weekend trip to Scotland she high hopes of getting their marriage back on track. It’s now or never for them.

However nothing is at it seems…

What an interesting novel with lots of twists and turns along the way. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting.

A little bit of a slow starter, but easy to read, I flew through this one and as each POV was interspersed by letters to Adam from his wife for each wedding anniversary, it really kept my attention.

Some of the twists I really wasn’t expecting and almost gasped out loud when I read them.

I really enjoy Alice Feeney’s novels and this one was no exception. Great for any psychological thriller fans

THE SUSPENSE...
THE GLOOMY SETTING...
THE DIFFERENT POVS...
THE WRITING...
Made this book amazing! I LOVED IT! My jaw literally hit the floor when I got towards the end and gasped out loud. I cannot remember the last time that happened. This was beautifully executed - Alice Feeney is becoming very fast one of my fave authors.

All I'm gonna say. Read this book. You need no more!!!

Amelia and Adam set off on a weekend away to Scotland in a last ditch attempt to save their marriage.
Told from the point of view of three people, Amelia, Adam and a third person not disclosed until the end of the book you’re kept guessing.
I didn’t find Amelia or Adam as nice people, so I wasn’t rooting for either of them which kind of works for this story.
It’s quite an eerie, creepy feeling you get from the story which is due to the venue of the weekend away and the authors descriptive writing.
It wasn’t a book I raced through or was unable to put down but I did enjoy it, and I would read another book by Alice Feeney.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book of AF. I was keep seeing it on IG and I wanted to see what’s the fuss all about.

I didn’t know what I was missing!

Where to start?! The setting is partly in London and in Scotland (this is another reason that I loved it). The descriptions are so detailed and vivid that you can imagine exactly the place action happens.

The author manages to create such a realistic atmosphere to the reader that you can’t put the book down. It’s like you can touch and grab the tension in the book.

The characters are both peculiar and lovable at the same time. There is no bad guy in this story and that makes it even more interesting.

The plot has more twist that you anticipate while reading and doesn’t disappoint until the last pages.

The writing and the way it’s structured is amazing! That’s the best thing for me about this book! The POV changes, with references to the past and future that builds such a suspense!

What can I say more! I LOVED IT!

What a story! So many twists and turns at the end, I couldn't put it down.
I was immediately drawn into the characters in this novel and the way the story unfolded was truly magnificent. I thought I had it all sussed out and then boom.... Alice Feeney showed me that I know absolutely nothing!
I totally recommend this book if you are a fan of a psychological thriller.

Love Alice feeney. She is yet to write a book that I don’t love! Thanks for another great thriller to add to all the others! Cannot wait for more of her work!

What a book. My first Alice Feeney and very intrigued by her writing. The format for this thriller is genius and sprinkles hard-core suspense and questions all over your read. I loved it, the character building was very crafty and at beginning I loved both characters so much I was worried about them. Then in the throws of the book the hints of secrets, the signposts the foreshadowing didn't stop and I did not put this book down as ever chapter ended I needed to read just one more.

Very impressed with this unusual thriller that was suspenseful and intriguing from beginning to end.

Described in the blurb as a domestic thriller, I was keen to read this after a couple of book friends raved about it.

Amelia and Adam are off on a weekend away at the suggestion of the counsellor as a last ditch attempt to save their marriage. Amelia has won a weekend break in Scotland. They arrive in winter in the middle of a snow storm. It’s creepy from when they first arrive. It just get creepier and creepier.

Neither of the main characters come over as likeable, but that didn’t stop me heavily engaging with the book.

The tension ramps up soon after they arrive at the holiday cottage, as does the intrigue with the addition of another person.

The book is told from 3 points of view, Adam, Amelia and a 3rd person whose relevance isn’t revealed until the end.

The back story is told in the form of secret letters written by his wife to Adam. The letters echo those from Adam’s languishing screenplay. The plot device to fill in the past works well with this technique, although we are only truly seeing the wife’s POV. The word of the year fits the letter, but not really needed for me.

The shocks and reveals just keep on coming while maintaining the really creepy feel.

Adam suffers from what is referred to as a neurological glitch called prosopagnosia which means that he can’t see distinguishing features on faces. This is socially difficult for him.

Fav quotes ‘you’re my MIP’ …… ‘most important person’

‘ if you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one’

This is a terrific book. A must read in my mind.
