Yet another triumph from Tom Percival in his Big Bright Feelings series. Tilda Tries Again tackles an issue particularly relevant for children in today’s uncertain world - coping with difficult situations. It shows the importance of perseverance, communication and patience.

Tilda’s world has gone topsy-turvy. Everything is upside down, making all the things Tilda loved previously feel impossible. Nothing seems right and the little girl wants to give up. With a little encouragement from a ladybird, Tilda begins to figure out how to cope in this new mixed up world, and how to turn her life around.

I loved Tilda Tries Again: the important message is shared gently through well chosen prose and the illustrations are glorious. I love how the colours are used to reflect the mental state. I think this is a book that should be shared with children of all ages and I will undoubtedly be adding it to our reading curriculum. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

A beautifully illustrated picture book with a very topical and relevant story line. With so many children struggling with resilience and self belief after lockdown and their lives being topsy turvy for a while this book takes a lighthearted look at not giving up. Try and try again. Don't worry if you fail - you tried.
Perfect for reading with young children and older children who may need a slight reminder that trying your hardest is enough.
The stunning illustrations with the use of black and white versus colour to emphasise mood add enormously to this beautiful, simple storyline. This is most definitely a book I'll be adding to my shelf.

This uplifting tale is about a little girl called Tilda, whose happy world gets turned upside down, leaving her deflated and gloomy. One day she spots a ladybird who has got itself stuck on its back, it’s world is upside-down just like Tildas. As Tilda is thinking of how she could help the ladybird get back on its feet, she soon discovers that as they ladybird wriggles and moves, it continues to try and its perseverance is rewarded, because the ladybird doesn’t give up and soon it manages to correct itself and is able to fly away. After witnessing this Tilda takes the ladybirds efforts on board and decides to persevere herself and to not give up. Through this new perspective, she discovers the benefits of not giving up and learns she can face what ever challenges she faces!

A lovely book which supports children’s emotional well-being and mental health by promoting resilience, problem-solving and a can-do attitude when challenges occur.

This book would be a FAB addition to any child’s bookshelf with its bright and bold illustrations, it’s encouragement of managing feeings and it’s message to persevere and not to give up.

This a fabulous book about a little girl called Tilda who starts to feel a little tops-turvy so starts to withdraw from everyone. She realises that even though she feels this way she needs to keep on trying and the more she tries, the more she starts to feel like her old self. This a great message about resilience for kids. It acknowledges that sometimes you don’t feel ok but if you keep trying to do the things that you did enjoy, you hopefully should feel able to do them more and more. The illustrations for this story are completely fantastic - highly recommend.

Tom Percival has created another hugely important book which is sensitive whilst highlighting an important topic. Tilda is notable on every page as she has vibrant red hair, in this beautifully illustrated book. She has a world which most children will relate to (days filled with books, friends and toys) until she suddenly feels different and feels as if her world is upside down. Finding inspiration from nature, she addresses her feelings and shows courage, perseverance and resilience. This is definitely a book I shall add to my school and family bookshelf.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A beautifully illustrated inspirational story about reslience and not giving up. Tilda has a great life full of all she needs, then she hits a slump and nothing is working as it should. She spots a ladybird trying to turn over, and notices it tries and tries until it manages to fly away- and Tilda thinks to herself, I can be more like that ladybird. So she slowly gets back to her normal self, and even when things seem difficult, she keeps on going.
I think it will be a great addition to any bookshelf
