There is no doubting the crafting of this novel. Veronesi has managed to encapsulate the life of his key protagonist within this reasonably brief novel. The life of Marco Carrera is told through a variety of narrative forms; fictional recount, email , letters, phone calls . Moving backwards and forwards in time , Carrera’s life is laid bare .. the triumph and tragedies of an everyday a life; the repercussions of family and friends and the desires for the future generations. Meticulous period details add a mundanity that heighten the readers’ awareness of the fragility and often pointlessness of our materialistic and emotional energies. Literature is art form and some books become a piece of art in themselves. Challenging, thought provoking and dazzling
