This fab book is a must have for any young children who may be nervous about their first day back at school. It is an instructional read which follows Emily D as she fights her nerves and starts in a new class at school. How the book is written gives children a brief glimpse into what to expect on their first day and help ease their worries.

I think this is a fab book and highly recommend it to calm the nerves of any new school starters! Whether it be from starting school to changing to a new school, I think this book could be a useful tool.

I received an electronic ARC from Darcie Rowan PR through NetGalley.
A delightful story about the first day of school. Emily shares with readers why she is nervous and the top five reasons she does not think the first day is an exciting adventure. Readers may relate to her concerns and share them. I appreciate that her parents and new teacher make sure everything is comfortable for Emily before the school day begins. Readers see her examine the room, find the locations within it, review the schedule and spend time one on one with her new teacher. Emily then takes us through the first day and finishes with the realization that it will be okay.
Love the illustrations and easy to follow text. This is a terrific addition for families who want to calm fears before the first day of school. The information Emily shares will lead to discussion and dialogue in many homes.

This book is fun to read with little ones. It feels like something they would write themselves to give explanations of a day, what they would miss etc. Really short and sweet, with good illustrations.

Love the story, but illustrations need to be more realistic. The illustrations are the main reason I would not purchase this book for a LMC.

This is a good book for anyone who is transitioning into a new class and is aimed especially at children with additional needs.

The messages are simple and clear and I think would be well received and helpful. The illustrations are simple and effective.

A definite must read for a child who needs that little bit of reassurance regarding their new class in September.

Many thanks to the author and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Emily D and the Frightful First Day highlights Emily's fears about her first day of school in a new classroom. She does not want to change classrooms, since she liked her schedule and her friends from the previous year. She lists many reasons why she does not want to start school on the first day. Emily has a lot of fears that most children would have, either with starting a new school or changing classes after a summer vacation. Emily likes to know what is going to happen, and that change after the summer scares her and makes her very anxious.

This book would be excellent for children who become anxious over change, or children with Autism, who have marked responses to change, and need things to go just as they expect. This book can teach children that although change is difficult, it does not always have to be bad. Emily, despite a lot of anxiety about her new classroom, liked it in the end and the day was not as frightful as she had expected it to be. This would best be used for children who are already in school, but changing classrooms (or even schools) from year to year, or for kids with anxiety disorders or Autism, to help teach them that although change happens, it does not always have to be bad.

Thank you to the author, illustrator, publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The illustrations are so cute! I still remember my nervous feelings before the first day of school everyday. Now my own children are going to a new school this year and I have nervous feelings with them! Hopefully this book will help kids realize that those nervous feelings are perfectly normal.

As a grown-up kid, I felt a lot of anxiety at my first day of school back then just like Emily! I think the Emily story can give couragement to kids who reading this story and help them to feel ease and something like, 'okay, I can enjoying this' for their first day of school.

However, personally I thought the illustration is average, it would be nice if some pages have some background illustration aside the main characters. Nonetheless, it's a cute and inspiring-innocent-story for kids!
