This is an interesting read with a unique concept. Overall, it screams teenage crime/vigilante thriller, seems a blend of X-Men and Stranger Things, though the best of both. Great plot twists and great job building the characters and allowing the readers to connect with the characters, and build the suspense. The story does close well, but leaves enough to encourage readers to come back for the rest of the trilogy.

The opening of this book alone had me hooked! The story starts with Kaia’s arrest in regards to an airport attack. The book keeps you hanging on the whole time, and I am excited to see where the series leads. The characters develop and change so well throughout the novel, I just wish we had gotten a little more backstory so I felt a deeper bond sooner rather than later.
Futuristic novels tend to be overdone and so similar these days, but A. M. Pierre does a phenomenal job of creating a new world that I felt completely immersed in. Kaia’s captors turned family are a ragtag bunch that had so much wit I couldn’t put the book down. Seriously, I read it so fast, which surprised me.
I am really looking forward to the next in the series, I think it will be a fun trilogy with plenty of twists and turns to go around.
I received the ARC from Netgalley for my honest review, but you really need to give this book a try!

If you love fast-paced action involving a found family (is it still called found if they're kidnapped?) of snarky super-powered teens then you have found the perfect book.
Legitimately could not put this book down until I reached the end. There was never a dull moment between some light tranquilizing between friends, skydiving, and lots and lots of explosions. Not to mention plot twists and also a knife right through my heart.
The characters are phenomenal. Kaia's inner monologe was hilarious and appropriately sarcastic. Dice the lovable conspiracy theorist. And Connor? Oh you sweet trainwreck, you take my breath away ;)

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review but trust me, this one's a good one.
