Jemisin is a master crafter of fantasy stories. Her books seeth in with interesting characters and astounding premise and world-building.

The City We Became is a new series in which the main characters are named after big cities around the world. These people are an embodiment of these big cities and they need to protect each other against the enemy who wants to subdue cities under its authority.

They joined forces to withstand and fight this entity who wants to take their city and especially their identity.

This book is weird in a good way. The first half of the book is confusing as we follow people's embodiment of big cities and their journey to look for each other.

The plot is good. The characters are astounding. The premise and magic need more world construction and concrete background..
