Love for Beginners
by Jill Shalvis

A enjoyable well written book. Emma was in a car accident in a coma then spent a year in rehabilitation. On top of everything else her fiance has moved with her now former BFF and she’s homeless with no job. Now she has to start life as she knows it again. There are ups Simon the hot therapist helping her to get her life back so it’s not all bad . Follow Emma’s journey with the ups and downs humour and great characters/animals. Easy read

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I loved this book so much, just perfect amount of romance and humour, just perfect escapism in every single way. This book literally had me laughing out loud, the characters are so relatable and I got completely lost in their lives and this story. Brilliant

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

As much as I loved Jill Shalvis' earlier books and she was an auto-buy for me, her recent books, this one included, just felt forced. Couldn't get behind the characters in this story - it just felt so 'off' - like someone with Emma's kind of injuries would be allowed to live without help, in an apartment with stairs, too. Her recovery is also mentioned as nothing short of miraculous, which just didn't really compute. Alison was a total raging pleasure-killer in this story, but half the book was hers... It just seemed and sounded all over the place, and the big black moment even just felt forced, like 'something' had to happen, so here it is (even if doesn't make a lick of sense).
Unfortunately, this author seems to be running out of steam and the magic of her earlier books is just not there anymore

What a fantastic story of love, loss, hope and understanding. On a run one day Emma's life changed so dramatically that she thought she really shouldn't have survived. However being independant and stubborn with a physio who takes no crap. Very slowly she begins to recover both physically and mentally. Her physio pushes her to the edge but also gets under her skin as she has love/hate feelings for him. Life is for living but does Emma want what she has lost back or does she need a new understanding of what she wants and needs. Including friends, love, hope, a beautiful fluffy dog and family.

Jill Shalvis is a fab author and this book is quite possibly my new favourite. As soon as I saw the gorgeous cover, I knew that this was a book I had to read. I definitely haven’t been disappointed.

I have loved the characters in this book. Each real and likeable, they add their own dimensions to this book. The chemistry between Emma and Simon is just fantastic and evident from the pages of this one.

This book has the perfect level of romance and humour. I have been pulled into the pages of this one and unwilling to put this one down. I actually squealed when I saw that this book had arrived.

This book has been the perfect escape after a busy day. I have had moments where I have literally laughed out loud. I have felt as though I have been with the characters and been completely caught up in the plot of this one.

I have loved everything about this book. There is nothing negative I can say about this absolutely scorcher of a book. A definite five star read and one I highly recommend.

When Emma wakes from a coma following an accident she discovers that her fiance has cheated on her with her best friend. Emma decides that she wants a fresh start. She decides to purchase a dog daycare centre and run the business with her high school enemy Alison. Alison also happens to be the cousin of Emma's attractive physical therapist who Emma is starting to get feelings for.

This was a fun quick read. I really enjoy Jill Shalvis' writing and the characters she creates. This is part of the Wildstone series but all the books can be read as standalones. There is a lot going on in this book and all of the characters are going through challenging times. Despite this, the book is not all doom and gloom we get some funny moments from the animals in this book which I really enjoyed. The romance in this book wasn't my favourite from this author. I didn't feel the spark and chemistry between Emma and Simon.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more from Jill Shalvis in the future.

Provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

I loved this book. I loved the characters and I loved the dogs.
It’s a hard subject and I think the author tackled it well. Guilt is such an insidious emotion getting to the root of it is hard. But Shalvis managed to point you in the right direction in this book. I think I cried through most of the book from the beginning. It had all the feels. And, I’m glad it made me feel them. Definitely recommended.

Well this was a really great read. I often find contemporary romance a bit of a minefield, as sometimes the conflict or obstacles in the way of contemporary couples can seem trivial or manufactured. Not the case with this book, and Jill Shalvis in general, which is great.

Emma Harris has been involved in a car accident, been in a coma for a couple of months and then spent a year in rehab, while she was recovering her fiancée and best friend have shacked up together in the apartment she lived in with her BFF. She has decided to start over, ditch her so called friends and reassess her priorities, but having lost her job, she is struggling to afford her medical bills and find an affordable place to live. Her OT after the accident, the very hot Simon, has pointed her in the direction of an affordable apartment, and she has a part time job at doggy day care. When the owner wants to sell up, Emma can see how she could make a new career if she can take over, but will the banks approve a business loan. When her only way to a new career is teaming up with her high school nemesis Alison, who also happens to be Simon's cousin, they start off as frenemies, but soon become friends.

Alison has her own baggage, and childhood angst from missing out on opportunities, recently split from the love of her life, because she finds it too hard to open up to his friends and family, she is trying hard to change. Add in Simon, feeling that his promise to his mum to look after his ill Dad, and to run his Dad's property business leave no time for a relationship, despite the attraction he feels to Emma, and you have angst and problem's galore.

Add in the trademark dogs, a pie dish banging turtle, and doggy day care becoming senior day care too, and you have a lovely romp of a book with some delicious romance elements, and a lot of bittersweet feels.

I voluntarily reviewed and advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.

Family drama, steamy scenes and a love that’s not actually for beginners but a true one nevertheless.
I loved it and the way Jill Shalvis created this world, full of interesting and down to earth characters, is everything that I craved for my contemporary romance heart.
Their interactions and inner monologues are so great and many times I found myself laughing out loud or having to stop reading because it really made me feel more than just a reading chapter, it’s emotional and heartbreaking but heartwarming at the same time. That happily ever after is well deserved after all that bumpy road.
I can’t wait to read more in this series and I couldn’t recommend this book enough.

Loved this! Fairly slow start but I ended up getting pretty attached to the characters and plot. Would definitely recommend as a popcorn read - enjoyable and the right level of stressful.

If chick lit/romance is your genre that this is for you!

This book has likeable characters, which the author captured well and in which you want them all to be happy!

The story follows a tragic accident for one of the characters and the aftermath of the accident and serious dilemmas

Perfect escapism and hard to put down once into

Another fantastic book from Jill. A fast paced read that I was disappointed to finish as I was enjoying so much. Look forward to the next book Jill

I really liked this book as it is a easy fun read . A large factor that made me want to read the book was the romance. And it didn't disappointed at all as it keep me interested throughout. Even if I didn't like how some of the characters dealt with their situation's.
The concept of Emma only letting herself be 90% happy because of what happened to her is interesting. It is a key theme throughout the book but how it gets solved is wrapped up almost too quickly to understand it. I find everything after this point happens very quickly and I found myself wanting to know more.

*Spoiler* I wanted to read about Emma and Simon's wedding and more about Alison and Ryan's relationship.

Overall it is a fun easy read. I'd like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for letting me read this early.

This book is so warm and enveloping like a great big literary hug. An absolute joy and pleasure to read. Loved the story and the characters felt like friends.

This was a sweet and cute read. But it is really fast paced for me. I needed little more from this characters.

I loved this book, and, honestly, was a bit disappointed when I got to the end, not because the ending was bad, but just because I didn't want it to end. I loved the secondary characters, in particular Alison, and appreciated that you saw their story too, and liked the fact that it was realistic with the emotions and reactions written about. I would wholeheartedly recommend to everyone, and hope the author continues to write more excellent stories like this

Love for Beginners, the 7th in the Wildstone series, is a heartwarming story of friendships, family, romance, determination, resilience, forgiveness and loyalty. The romance between Emma and Simon is mostly sweet and not too steamy; the focus of the book is on the interpersonal relationships that revolve around them and help to shape them individually and as a couple. Wonderful characters, as always, from Jill Shalvis. I'm looking forward to more in this series!

I enjoyed this story, it was well written, had good narrative and good pacing and the characters were relatable. I read this quickly and would definitely recommend it. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end.

This is book is warm, funny and rich in emotional nuances. So many complex and diverse characters with hidden depths to explore - the moment when Ali recognises something of herself in her former boss is quite profound. I loved how all the characters were a sum of their past experiences, yet somehow were able to move beyond that by connecting with others. Despite dealing with some potentially depressing themes, like disability, Alzheimer’s, infidelity and death, the story is uplifting and hopeful, with an optimistic message of the possibility of triumph after adversity. It blends the author’s trademark offbeat humour with an emotional depth that had me alternately laughing and crying as I read.
