I am a huge fan of this series and this one was as good as the others.
The story is exciting. The twists and turns kept you gripped. I loved being back with the characters. A great book

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Even though this was the 5th in the series and I hadn’t read any of the others this did read well as a stand-alone. But I will definitely getting the others in the series as I highly enjoyed this.

I am enjoying the kitty series, a fantastic story with twists. Once I start reading I didn't want to stop.

This is the second of the Kitt Hartley series that I have been lucky enough to read, and I hope it isn't the last. Helen Cox is so skilled at writing "cosy crime" - these books are so easy to sit down with in the evening and lose yourself in the story and the setting, Whitby (in this book) is brought vividly to life, the characters are well drawn if somewhat caricature-ish (that's not a complaint, it's part of the joy of the book).

The book will appeal to anyone who is looking for an easy, cosy read - particularly with the forthcoming long winter evenings. Turn the TV off and snuggle up with this, you won't regret it.

My thanks to Quercus Books for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘A Witch Hunt in Whitby’ by Helen Cox in exchange for an honest review.

This is Book 5 in Cox’s Kitt Hartley series of mysteries set in Yorkshire. Although this was my first experience of the series, enough background was provided so I didn’t feel lost.

It appears that a serial killer is operating in Yorkshire. There’s been three victims in the last three months. The murderer has been nicknamed the Vampire Killer as in each case a large purple V had been painted on the front door of the victim eleven days before their murder. In addition, all victims had some connection with the occult and were found drained of blood with two marks on their necks.

Then Ruby Barnett, a local psychic, arrives home to find a purple V on her front door. The eccentric Ruby is a friend of private detective, Kitt Hartley, though Kitt doesn’t hold with the ‘New Age nonsense’ but she and her partner, Grace Edwards, take the threat seriously. The police also are on the case.

‘A Witch Hunt in Whitby’ combines elements of a cosy mystery with those of a police procedural and held my attention from start to finish. Cox has created an appealing ensemble cast as well as vividly captured her Yorkshire setting.

Overall, I found this an entertaining mystery and following this positive experience certainly will be interested in reading earlier and future books in this appealing series.

Enjoyable cosy crime. Part of a series but this also works as a standalone story.

3.5

I loved A Witch Hunt in Whitby. It is the fifth book in the Kitt Hartley series. I haven't read the previous books (yet) but this wasn't a problem as this was easily read as a stand alone story. I loved the setting of Whitby, as it is somewhere I have been many times, I loved the writing style and I loved the story. I will definitely be reading the previous books in this series and look forward to reading further ones too.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Why have I never discovered these books before. I love reading books set in places I know. Whitby is one of our family favourite destinations. So to have a story set here brought the tale to life.
A really interesting storyline with likeable characters. I will certainly be reading more in this series.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to see an arc

This is the first book in the Kitt Hartley series I have read , this didn’t detract from the story and can easily be read as a stand alone .
A serial killer is at large and as the title suggests this leads Kitt , Grace, Evie and DI Halloran to investigate in the coastal town of Whitby famous for its links with Dracula and all things gothic.
The book was an easy read and fast paced , the characters are amiable and the story had a touch of quirkiness to it which added the finishing touch.
Overall an enjoyable read , and I look forward to the next in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quercus .

This was a really enjoyable mystery and is the 5th outing for private investigator Kitt Hartley and her team, working alongside Kitt’s boyfriend DI Mal Halloran.

The story is set in Whitby and the descriptions of the area and surroundings are good and add to the suspense of the tale. Kitt’s friend and psychic Ruby appears to be the latest potential victim of the Vampire Killer and Kitt is spurred on to locate the killer before the trademark 11 day countdown concludes.

Kitt is a well written character who has plenty of grit and determination and a huge like ability factor. She is smart and very capable of detecting clues and helping the police track down suspects. She finds herself in many tricky situations and manages to come out on top. I very much like the ongoing and increasingly loving relationship between her and Mal, who is an extremely loyal and caring partner. The story had lots of hints and clues for the reader and a few red herrings also to throw you off the scent, but the final conclusion was excellently reached after much nail biting tension.

Great book either as read as part of the series or as a standalone as the author gives the reader everything they need to know about the characters to engage with them.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you're prepared to stretch your credulity to it's limit you'll find this an enjoyable romp as Kitt and Grace ,private detective duo, race against time to save their friend,Ruby, from the vampire killer who is targeting people connected to the occult. I know it's the pedant in me, but I found myself questioning how the killer financed his campaign ,among other unbelievable scenarios . However, the story is well written, the characters likeable and suitable homage paid to historical location and literature.

Helen Cox is a new author to me. I loved it I never knew what was coming next. It was well written and I loved the characters. I loved the twists and turns and never would have guessed who the killer was. I will be sure to read more from this author.

The fifth in the Kitt Hartley mystery series and it appears that a serial killer is stalking Yorkshire. Loved the previous 4 books and this was just as good if not better!

A Serial Killer Stalks Yorkshire....
The fifth in the Kitt Hartley mystery series and it appears that a serial killer is stalking Yorkshire. With apparent shades of the occult it’s a troubling time for Kitt and Grace who need to solve the mystery against a ticking clock. With likeable protagonists and a colourful cast of supporting characters this is an entertaining, escapist read.
