The Wartime Singers was my first book by Lesley Eames. It takes place in London during WW I. Lizzie, Poppy and Margaret are facing many struggles but lean on each other. This book was well researched and kept me up late reading.
This is a clean romance, which is very refreshing. If you like historical fiction, this book is for you. I want to thank the author, Aria & Aries and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Lizze leaves home to find her Godmother in London. Her mother has died, and her dad is neglectful and letting his lady friend take over her raising. She clearly is not happy to have to take over her role and is nasty towards. Lizzie. Her godmother, Margaret takes her in, but is not happy to see her. She realizes Lizzie’s dad is not welcoming. Margaret is an accomplished pianist and teaches young children. Lizzie can sing and plays piano as well and helps in the teaching lessons. As the war breaks out they decided to perform shows for injured soldiers who come to England to recover. A childhood friend of Lizzies, Polly decides to join them. They come from troubled backgrounds but they all want to bring happiness to theses soldiers. I enjoyed this different take on a Historical Fiction novel.

Oh my goodness what an amazing book I could not put it down and read it in a day.

Lizzie runs away from home as her Father has no interest in her and he brings a woman in to help raise her and she is not nice as well. She ends up with their Godmother Margaret Penrose who looks after her over the years. They end up entertaining the troops at hospitals & convalescent homes to boost the troops. Polly joins them as well and they perform.

Lizzie meets Harry and they fall in law she also is friends with Matt who helped her when she ran into trouble on her way to find her Godmother Margaret. They are both serving in the army so she writes to both Harry & Matt.

I liked this book as it was a bit different from Forst World War books. It is well written and the characters are really likeable.

I would red more of this author and recommend this book.

I enjoyed this war time story. It was endearing and refreshing as it was set during WWI.

The story centres around a girl named Lizzie who runs away from a neglectful and stern father at the age of twelve. She is from a small town in England but runs away to London to find her Godmother. Her Godmother, Margaret reluctantly takes her in. As she grows into a teenager and young adult the First World War erupts. Margaret is an accomplished pianist and teaches piano to young children. Lizzie has a beautiful singing voice but can also play the piano and she too begins to help Margaret with teaching the piano lessons. As the War progresses Margaret and Lizzie decide to do their bit and begin to perform music shows to injured soldiers who have come back to England to convalescent. During this time Lizzie's friend, Polly from the old village comes to visit and decides to stay in London. Polly too has a wonderful singing voice and she too becomes a part of the group. The story focuses on these three women and their lives.

All three of the women have problems from the past but come together to help bring some happiness to the wounded soldiers. In turn they will grow and soon their hopes and dreams will become reality. There's a dash of romance for all three women and the story is endearing if a little slow in some parts.

The book is well researched as we go through many of the war worries such as the food shortages and zeppelin bombings. The time and setting is well described and there is some mention of suffragettes and even the Spanish Flu. It's a lighter historical fiction War Story that is easy to read and follow.

I was aweed so many times in this book. Like such a cute romance in a wartime, ooff!! Absolutely loved it

This book was amazing. I've read all of Lesley's previous books but this one was in a class of its own. I adored most of the characters, thought the story was highly engaging and really, really didn't want it to end. I hope there's a sequel. I can't wait for Lesley's next book.. She is an author who is going to go far, I think.

Another WW1 winner, featuring the lives of women on the homefront in England.

After escaping an abusive household, Lizzie settles in with her godmother in London while teaching piano lessons and k. When the war arrives, Lizzie, her godmother, and friends look for ways to help with the effort, with Lizzie and Margaret eventually deciding to bring musical performances to the convalescent hospitals in London, along with Lizzie's childhood friend Polly. As the war goes on, relationships develop for the women as they hold out hope that their men will be able to return home.

The Wartime Singers is just a sweet stories of friendships and romance. Even with the war in the background, there is little shocking material (as is the case in some war books) and I could have seen giving this novel to my own grandmother to read. It's a treatise to the lives and friendships of the women, with a little romance thrown in on the side.

I love a wartime novel and usually feel as though I am involved with the characters, this novel didn't disappoint, it was a great storyline and a real pleasure to read. 5 stars

I love how this book begins. I love that you see from the beginning how tough and determined Lizzie is. How she overcomes hardship and is continually looking forward to bettering herself and her circumstances. I was overjoyed when she found the farm and the safety that came with it and then her godmother and everything that came with that.

Her relationship with Harry intrigued me and I really enjoyed reading about them and rooted for them as a couple from the very first meeting! He’s such a gentleman and the whole war they were a strength to each other.

The story ended with me literally crying but was well written, unexpected but fitted with the characters and their personalities so well.

I previously read the orphan twins by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Completely different story but if you love this, check that out! You’ll love that also! I’m not an emotional person but Lesley Eames really brings out the emotion in me!

Set in 1914, it’s the story of three ladies, Margaret, Lizzie and Penrose. Lizzie came to live with Margaret after she ran away from her home, following a sudden personal loss. Penrose was the girl who was her friend.

They want to do something to lift the spirits of those servicemen who are coming back home, sick and injured.. Lizzie and Margaret both have talents that they could put to use, and perform at different places where soldiers attend or are healing following injuries.

With the war continuing, all three women have their own struggles. But it seems that they’ll need one another more so now, than they did when they first new one another……

Having read one of Lesley Eames books, The Orphan Twins, I was very sure that this particular book of hers will be interesting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lizzie, Polly, Margaret, Harry and Matt were characters I was always looking out for while reading the book.

I love how the title came about and it is so perfect for the plot.

I could empathize with some characters and I was pleased at some scenes. I am not going to give out spoilers but you need to check out this book.

Lesley Eames writes well. I am looking forward to any other books she is going to write by God’s grace.

I think it's well written and well researched, the characters are interesting and the historical background is vivid.
It's quite entertaining but I was expecting something more related to the historical time frame and less romance.
It's not my cup of tea but I'm sure a lot of people will love it.

Set around the first world war I fell in love with the book and Lizzie from the start. She's preparing to leave her controlling father in the middle of the night and head to London to stay with Margaret, her godmother. Their relationship blossoms through their desire to sing and entertain the troops. When Lizzie's friend arrives after being jilted the duo become a trio.

I absolutely loved this book. It's full of drama, sadness, happiness and hope. There is also a beautiful romance. I enjoyed the storyline it flowed really well throughout the years and I honestly didn't want this to end. Highly recommended
