This is Book 2 in the Dear Mrs Bird series and just like book one I absolutely loved it. I listened to it on audible and the narrator was excellent, the narrator really makes an audiobook I think. This story kept my interest the whole way through. I love reading about this time in history (WW2). A book with a great story which continues on from the first book. I would recommend reading Dear Mrs Bird first to get familiar with the characters .

Stoic, full of life characters making the most of their lives during the constraints of war time. Our protagonist is determined to do her best in supporting other women. As a writer she discovers the difficulties that women with children have, especially those who have no support for their children whilst working. I loved the upbeat determination that drives the character in what she does and those around her hold your interest. An enjoyable story with characters to remember.

I loved Yours Cheerfully by AJ Pearce! Anna was the perfect narrator and made me feel like I was right there with Emmy and Bunty. A great feel good story with great characters. I can’t wait to go back and read Dear Mrs Bird now.
Thank you for the ARC, 5 stars.

My first book from this author and I loved it.
Heartwarming, funny and so well written. Great characters from an era I am not used to reading, but thoroughly enjoyed.
The narrator was really good to and kept me interested.

After devouring Dear Mrs Bird, I just had to read the sequel Yours Cheerfully !

Mrs Bird has left the magazine and as the war keeps raging on, now more than ever is it important to provide help to the thousands of women who not only have to keep raising the family... but are now enrolling in jobs to support war efforts.

The book once more delivered its promise: the tone is delightfully sweet and heartwarming, especially for a war-time fiction.

I was afraid of reading a sequel as it can usually be disappointing, but Yours Cheerfully was a fantastic continuation to its predecessor.

Thank you @netgalley for the free copy, I really had a wonderful time.

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and AJ Pearce for an ARC in return for an honest review.

What an adorable and positive book. I have not read anything by AJ Pearce before and this is not my usual genre but I was pleasantly surprised. From what I hear this book is already very popular, well deserved.

It was a real pleasure to catch up with Emmy Lake and the staff at Women’s Friend. The excellent audiobook narration of this novel really brought the story to life. Emmy’s relationships and friendships develop whilst her social life and professional life come together in exploring the necessity and challenges of being a working mother. The subject matter felt in some ways relevant to today, and I really enjoyed seeing Emmy grow in confidence and have her own voice. I hope we will meet again!

Dare I say it? Even better than Dear Mrs Bird.

All the eccentricity of the first with silly girls, knowing matriarchs, Catty kittens in lipstick and stockings and there in the Centre Emmy, Bunty , Charles and the wonderfully romantic (in my humble opinion) Guy. This time the Magazine triumph and calamity centres around the Government plan to entice more women into munitions work.

The Feminist in me got a lovely helping, the romantic a fair old dollop and a frightfully wondrous story is revealed ...

Absolutely loved it!!

I enjoyed this book but the first one made me cry and I had high expectations for this one as a result. This is a much more light-hearted and slow-paced book which I enjoyed listening to and reading along with and though I really enjoy the characters, I did feel that it was a bit too slow paced and predictable.

Yours Cheerfully is as gung-ho, jolly hockey sticks, chin chin as Dear Mrs Bird. A book with heart that you’ll love if you enjoyed its predecessor.

This is a wonderful story with fabulous narration.First the storyline: Following from “Dear Mrs Bird” but not wholly dependent on it ( so it is easily read or listened to as a stand alone title) the plot involves Emmy,a journalist for a Women’s magazine during WW2 and the help she gives to women war workers whilst negotiating her own personal life. It’s a light, easy to follow storyline that is both uplifting and quaintly charming.. The narrator does a superb job of bringing the right tone to the tale. Her voice is pleasant to listen to and despite having to read characters with different voices she easily accomplishes this .The overall experience of listening to this cheerful book is very positive.

I loved Dear Mrs Bird so was thrilled to receive this audiobook from NetGalley. It was a joy to return to the lovely characters of Emmy, Charles, Bunty etc.

I loved how this novel takes up from Dear Mrs Bird but focuses in on the female factory workers who are trying to do their part during wartime but have to manage things at home. The narration of this book is flawless. I was completely taken away to wartime Britain and loved all the use of 1940s phrases and language. A light easy read (despite the subject mattter) and one I’d thoroughly recommend.

From the author of Bestseller, Dear Mrs Bird, comes a much hoped-for follow up, Yours Cheerfully. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book so I downloaded this as an Audio book. This is just as enjoyable. Uplifting and fun yet gives us a glimpse into the world women lived in during WWII

This is the sequel to Dear Mrs Bird so we’re back with Emmie at Women’s Friend magazine in the months following the end of the previous novel. I loved this book, it was just as lovely as the first one and I got completely swept up in it. This time Emmie gets involved with a campaign to encourage more women into war work and I loved it. We see the strength of the women but also their vulnerabilities and how much harder life is made for them by bosses who think they should be the same as men and yet also keep their home and raise their children but with no support from anyone. I was glad Bunty was back in this novel as I adore her friendship with Emmie. This is such a lovely read and I recommend it!

I received this as an ARC on NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review

Actual rate: 4.5

Good:
- Realistic and lovely historical setting
- Characters I related too
- Interesting Feminist storyline
Bad:
- Had some not so believable points

I loved this! A nostalgic and fun story following a journalist (and fire-call girl) who lives in WW2 London with her best friend Bunty. She believes in "doing her bit" for the war effort, so when she gets called to attend a Ministry of Defence meeting, she's thrilled!
However, while carrying out the orders, she runs into some women who she feels are being treated unfairly (and cant say anything about it, in case of decreasing morale), and missing her military boyfriend Charles. She has to dodge censorship, sexism and late trains, but will she do what's right?

This book places us into a gritty setting, but gives us real and tangible friends that we follow from the first to the second book. Even if the story is sometimes a little unrealistic, that's part of the fun. I honestly feel I know the WW2 women so much better after reading this!

Hilarious, fun and feminist.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a romance (especially historical fiction (same... I see you)), friends aged 13-113, and anyone who loves a good laugh.

Overall: 4/5

I'd already read the ARC of the ebook of this title but I had also listened to the previous book, Dear Mrs Bird, as an audiobook and I loved Anna Popplewell's narration. I find it hard to believe she isn't Emmy - her voice seems to fit this book so brilliantly. I love this story even more than Dear Mrs Bird - it's really lovely. Heartwarming without being cheesy which so few books manage to pull off. Not predictable either - again, that's something that I find is rare these days. So thank you to the publishers for this review copy of the audiobook. It was very much enjoyed!

If you loved Dear Mrs Bird (and I did) you will without doubt love Yours Cheerfully. Having read the latter some time ago, I wondered if it would matter that I couldn’t quite remember the plot - it didn’t. The book eases us back gently into the 1940s and the newspaper office of Women’s Friend, and reacquaints us with Emmeline and Bunty. Emmeline is still working on the magazine but is given the special task of reporting on wartime recruitment of women in the munitions factories. On her visits she discovers how invaluable the women’s work is, but how limited childcare, pay and conditions restrict their ability to work. One of the women, recently widowed, is sacked for bringing her children to work. Emmeline is determined to help the women fight for decent working conditions. At the same time she is helping out with a women’s problem page on the journal and planning her wedding to Charles!
I listened to this on audiobook - the narrator is absolutely perfect for this book, carefully evoking the accents and tones of voices of this time and conveying male and female characters alike. The narrator is brilliant at conveying emotions, building tension and stoking up the excitement! The book is absolutely perfect to listen to.
This is such a lovely read. It has a bit of a slow start but before you know it you are completely caught up in the excitement of it all. You feel the frustration at the situation of the women and anger at the factory owners. You are caught up in the preparations for Emmeline’s wedding and then hanging onto your seat as you wonder if she’s actually going to get married.
Funny, sad, tender..this would make such a wonderful film!
With thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan UK Audio for a digital copy of this audiobook.

This is a follow on to Mrs Bird so probably best to read that one first. Set in 1940’s war time and a middle class woman wants to be a journalist on a woman’s magazine, the story is her journey from secretarial work to reporting articles. The side stories of bombing, food shortages, being at war and loss are far more interesting and worthy of note. Volunteers kept the country and economy moving and women in particular made huge sacrifices for their country, often overlooked and taken for granted. The main character is a bit annoying with her jolly hockey sticks view on life however the book is well researched and I liked the historical content. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I loved the camaraderie of the characters!
This era fascinates me, I know it was an awful time but there seemed to be a lot of good people around.
Life seemed simple too.
I preferred this one to the previous book which is a prequel, but not a necessary read to enjoy this one.
Highly recommended if you enjoy historical romantic fiction.
Oh and I adored Ruby!
