The Summer of You is a short BL manga about two boys in high school bonding over their favourite hobby: movies. After Saeki confesses to Wataru that he likes him, Wataru is not sure what to do with that confession or his own feelings. After that moment, the boys plan trips to the sets of their favourite movies. That is how they spend the rest of their summer, but Wataru still struggles with Saeki's confession and his own feelings.

I think this manga really catches the feeling of late summer and hanging out with friends, but also the confusing feeling of what it is like to have a crush. The art style is very nice too. It really helps if you're reading a manga that the art style is appealing to you. In this case, it really was.

Saeki and Wataru are, in my opinion, very likeable characters who do frustrate you sometimes because you just wish they talked to each other about how they really feel. For most of the story the two of them are struggling with their feelings and not confessing to each other and the ending felt a little bit like it was going too fast. Nevertheless, this is a great short story to read.

I give The Summer of You 5 stars! I really loved reading it and I adore the characters. Unfortunately, I finished it within an hour and I wish I could read more about them but the bonus chapters at the end were really great too! I definitely recommend The Summer of You.

I don't usually read Manga but really enjoyed this book! I thought the characters were adorable and very respectful of each other. I would definitely read more if other volumes come out!

Loved the story and found it very heartwarming. No feelings were forced and the all story was sweet from start to finish. The dialogues and drawings were amazing too, can't wait to read volume two to see where this goes.

This was a cute, coming of age manga. I really enjoyed how the characters didn't try to force each other to figure out their feelings. Watari was my favorite. I'm curious about future volumes even if this ended pretty cleanly.

This was sweet. The story felt a bit unstructured at time, but in the end it was what I expect from a teen romance manga.

This book was ADORABLE.
First of all, I love the dating in mangas and graphic novels, so I was excited when I read the synopsis! And the book itself did not disappoint. Go for it, this is going to be your next Red, white and royal blue with every color in rainbow 🌈.

This was such an adorable read!

This manga follows two boys in high school who become friends through their mutual love for movies. Over the Summer holiday they travel together to spots where their favourite movies were filmed and, gradually, their relationship blossoms.

If you liked Given, this is perfect for you! The vibe of the relationship in this manga is very similar. Just as adorable, with a few struggles along the way!

The English isn’t perfect but I’ve read MUCH worse so don’t let that scare you off. It was definitely still an easy and smooth read!

It didn’t turn my world upside down or anything but I still loved it and I can’t wait for the second volume!

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an arc of this manga!

This book has been given by Netgalley to us readers so in return I will be giving my honest opinion.

This sweet and light slice of life story has broken and mended my heart again. It’s a perfect reading for getting out of a reading slump or after having read a really long and tough book.

We are told about the story of two boys, one of them being the most popular between girls from school and the other one being his best friend. What we are not told from the beginning is the REAL story which will leave you completely shocked.

Both of the main characters are very relatable and have the most normal reactions to the occurrences they come into. Personally, this is a feature I always look for in books, the relatability of it makes you like both boys immediately and by the end of the story you want to keep reading more and more about their story.

I would recommend it for all type of people who want a little break from their life. I believe it’s a perfect read for teenagers that are still not so sure about their sexuality, reading about the lgbt+ community always helps.

The Summer of You is a sweet and low key romance that, while bringing nothing new to the table, is a lovely easy-afternoon type of read. The art is clean and the story flows smoothly. Author Furuya eschews drama for a smoother slow burn between two very laid-back guys.

Story: Wataru's friend Saeki always seems to be confessed to by the girls. But Saeki always has the same answer to the girls: there is someone he already likes. When Wataru finally gets around to asking Saeki about it, Saeki answers him truthfully: it's the person he is looking at. Instead of freaking out, Wataru takes it in stride and the two enjoy a Summer together in which they remain friends and Wataru finds he has to reconsider his feelings for Saki.

I liked that neither of the two main characters is straight out gay; rather, this is more of a love story than one of physical attraction and both look to be interested in the person and not the gender. Neither is forcing themselves or their values on the other and instead enjoy a close friendship.

The art emphasizes the story nicely and is easy to follow. The panels do an excellent job of showing the underlying emotion and everything unsaid.

In all, an enjoyable, if unchallenging, read. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Review to come September 14th on blog/goodreads/etc..

I received this manga from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

A wonderful sweet manga that I just couldn't resist and boy I am happy to have read it! It was a sweet manga about two friends, one has feelings for the other and confesses. We see a summer of feelings, of movies, of friendship, and more.

I loved these two characters and I loved getting to know them better. I loved seeing them at school, loved seeing them go to the cinemas to see movies (and afterwards of course discuss them), go on a pilgrimage of sorts to visit scenes of movies (which I totally loved and I wanted to just hop in the book and go with them for real). I really liked these two characters and their personalities and I am glad we got some backstory on a thing in their past that made this connection in the now.

When Saeki confessed I was a bit worried, I have read some shounen-ai manga in which things progress superfast, which I am not a fan of because if just never feels natural. I was hoping this would be more slow-burn, and I can happily report that it was. Wataru is definitely figuring out what to do about that confession, where he stands, what to do, and I love how he keeps the friendship intact even if it is a bit awkward at times. I loved how he calmly answered Saeki as Saeki was definitely worried that their friendship would just fall apart after the confession. I loved seeing Wataru slowly discover his feelings, slowly finds him looking at his hot friend Saeki just a tad more and a tad longer. Wondering just a bit more. Blushing when Saeki gets close. I am happy that it took all volume and that Saeki gave him all the room to figure things out. Well, OK, almost all the room given the ending.

Yes, the ending, or well the last part of the manga, in which something happens that just pissed me off and I found it very selfish of Saeki to do that to someone he likes and someone who just needed time. And even if all that wasn't going on, they are still friends. You don't do that to anyone. I just wanted to give Wataru a big big hug. I loved what happened in the last pages and I was cheering for Wataru.

I loved the bonus stories that were added at the end. One continues the story we just left, the other is about them meeting up again... at Wataru's home *squee*, and the other tells us some backstory on Saeki and what happened when he found Wataru again in high school.

I really enjoyed the art and found the style quite pretty!

So... will I be reading the rest (as apparently there are more volumes)? I am not sure. On the one hand I want to see how Wataru and Saeki get on in college or later, but on the other hand this one was pretty much a clean ending. We even got bonus stories to wrap it all up. So I may check out the next volume, but it won't be a priority.

I am very happy with this cute and fun manga and I would recommend it.

The Summer of You follows two high-school boys with a shared love of movies getting to know each other over a summer, and after a surprise confession, slowly developing into something more than friends...

This was a short, sweet and light summer romance.

The story won’t stick with me for a long time, but it’s exactly what it sets out to be. I think it captures first loves really well, full of butterflies and awkwardness.
The main characters were well developed, and although we didn’t see much of them, I loved the side characters- Wataru’s school friends and older sister.
I also really appreciated how Wataru responded to Saeki’s confession, it was one of my favourite parts of the novel!
We got to visit a number of locations over their summer together which made for a really cute setting throughout, and it was fun to explore them alongside the characters.

There was a (spoilery) plot point used here that felt a little questionable and didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story. I liked the message that came out of it, but not how they got there. I feel like the same message and resolution could have been reached in a different way and been just as effective.
It was also hard to tell who was speaking at times due to the placement of the speech balloons, especially during back and forth dialogue, but it didn’t detract from the story too much.

If you’re looking for a cute BL with minimal angst, pick this one up!

This was a really sweet and short read.

The artwork is simple and gorgeous!

The characters are developed pretty well, but because of the length of the story there wasn't time to delve into them deeper.

The story was really cute and exactly what I was looking for.

This was a really really sweet manga. I love how the relationship between the two main characters was written and expressed. The plot was also good, simple and nice and very sweet. I really liked how it ended too!

I'm not used to read mangas. I like anime, but I don't read many mangas, but I enjoyed this one a lot. It was an adorable story about two boys b
finding each other.

The characters were so cute and easy to connect with them (thanks for that). The best of this manga was the relationship between them. How was it so pure? 😭😭😭

It's not the manga of my life, but I liked A LOT. If you like BL (boys love), please read it because you'll love it.

My Summer of You is such a sweet Shonen-Ai that I almost cry while finishing it.
A story about two young men, linked by their love for movies and complicity that nobody can really explain as one is " the handsome one" and the other is "the average one"?
An old trope that still works on me, even after years of reading much more built yaois.
I'll buy it, for sure, and as the title include "Volume 1" I hope there will be a second volume!

“to me…you will always be part of my summer.”

This is a cute high-school romance graphic novel. It's a quick read.

A nice, short BL manga. Very easy read, I got through it in about 30 minutes. Love the light-heartedness, I’ve read far too many BL manga that were incredibly dreary, this one was a breath of fresh air. It was very nice seeing their friendship remain mostly unchanged, besides a little embarrassment from time to time over cheesy things Chiharu said in the heat of the moment. It felt like a very healthy evolution from them just being friends. It had a nice pace, not overly dramatic but compelling enough to keep the pages turning. I kind of wish there was more to the main story line, but it was a good read nonetheless.

Also love seeing their meeting through Chiharu’s eyes too, all the extra chapters were very cute actually!
