I feel quite winded by this book. I didn’t expect to love it quite so much and now I feel quite bereft. From the very first page this book comes alive and its beautiful writing just keeps flowing right until the very last line. The characters feel so real and vibrant, you can feel yourself sat next to them drinking in a restaurant or flying high in the skies. This is the best kind of historical novel as it takes you on the best possible kind of journey, and leaves a lasting impression of some quite remarkable people. I could say a lot more but I don’t really have the words other than to say this is definitely a recommended read for anyone who loves historical fiction,

I read Night Flight and The Little Prince by Saint-Exupéry. so I was curious and bit wary of this book.
It was a good read, well researched and well written.
I liked how the characters are developed,
It's the story of a man, his time and his passions.
I appreciated the descriptions of the flight but they were a bit tame comparing to The Night Flight.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

What a beautiful read this was.

Anyone who has read this or wanting to read this please make sure you have also read The Little Prince by the author that this book is written about.

I loved how well written this book is with the descriptive language and the characters, alongside the actual plot for the book as well.

The life of Antoine De Saint-Expéry as a pilot in the 1920’s and is mainly based no real life events that actually took place. It’s a wonderful read all around!!

Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is big on historical retellings.

Many thanks to the Pubisher/Author/Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Many people know the name Antoine De Saint-Expéry for the classic novel The Little Prince. But long before he put pen to paper, he was a pioneer. In the 1920's and beyond, Antoine was a pilot - and was responsible for wonderful progression in the skies, opening up worldwide postal routes and getting into all kinds of trouble. In The Prince of the Skies, Antoine must try to pursue his love of flying with the pressures of his aristocratic background and the the woman he loves, but the call of adventure is always there. And as war breaks out across Europe, he finds there's much more waiting for him out there.

The Prince of the Skies is a wonderful homage to a familiar name, based largely on true autobiographical fact from Antoines life but with beautifully magical storytelling to create something truly unique. Full of rich history, teaching us about the age of aviation innovation, about war; from both technical and emotional perspectives.

Full of uplifting tales of friendship, of passion and dreams in a truly captivating way, and then juxtaposing with the harsh realities of war in both global and personal forms, this story leads the reader through every emotional possible to create something completely captivating.

The Prince of the Skies by Antonio Iturbe

📓Genre: Historical Fiction
Star: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4.8 stars rounded to 5 stars)

🔖 This is an incredible tale of the life and times of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – a brilliant and brave pilot who eventually gained fame and popularity as the writer of the immensely loved children's story, 'The Little Prince'.
🔖The book primarily highlights the events before Antoine de Saint-Exupéry become the renowned writer. But the novel is not exactly biographical. It's way more than that!
🔖The author has given a detailed account of how the courage shown by young pilots of that era like Antoine, Jean Mermoz and Henri Guillaumet – helped in establishing and widening the official ariel postal routes of that time.
🔖The narrative is descriptive, engaging and even heart-breaking at times – since it depicts a period of history where war ravaged innumerable families, dreams and lives.
🔖The rich history of aviation, the unsung tales of bravery, courage and friendship – all find a place in this beautiful book.
🔖What truly touched me was the lucid style of writing. It was quite fascinating to be able to connect the dots between the tale of 'The Little Prince' and it's creator's own personal experiences.
🔖Since I've always loved the deeply-layered tale of the 'prince who lived on asteroid B612' – reading this book made me a bit nostalgic.
🔖Through the eyes of its three protagonists – this book narrates a thrilling and adventurous tale of exploration, courage and the will to chase one's dreams.
🔖I loved the whole of it and totally recommend it to all readers!

🔸Final Verdict: Brilliant
🔸Book Cover: The cover is beautiful. It was the first thing that caught my attention.
🔸Writing Style: Captivating
🔸Character Development: Good

I loved the premise of this novel, but something seemed to fall short. The writing was vivid and descriptive and I enjoyed the characters, but at certain points I felt entirely removed from the story and disconnected from the novel. I think if I had picked it up at a different time I would have enjoyed it more. Still, a solid historical fiction.

There is so much I want to say about this novel but I don't know where to start. FASCINATING and brilliantly evoked in terms of time, place, history and bookish heritage. Longer review will follow but for all fans of French history, the author of The Little Prince and what he did during the war, his involvement in the history of airplanes. I found this just fascinating = there's that word again. Recommended!
