I have enjoyed this author’s previous books and looked forward to reading this one.

When Tess’ three year old daughter Poppy draws a dark and disturbing picture, Tess is convinced that Poppy has witnessed something horrific. When Tess raises her concerns about her daughter, it seems nobody is prepared to listen, it’s just a picture after all. Tess is determined to keep her daughter safe, but how does she do that when she doesn’t know who she can trust?

A good suspenseful story which was an easy and entertaining read.

A Nicki French classic. This duo can do no wrong in my eyes and this book was just as good as all the ones I've previously read. As a mother, you'll do anything to keep your child safe. This story follows a mother who will go above and beyond to protect her child even if it makes her look insane. A gripping read and a fantastic ending. 10 out of 10 from me.

I didn’t enjoy the last Nicci French story I read so I’m glad to say everyone’s favourite thriller couple are back on track! The Unheard is crazy full of suspense with plenty of drama to keep the plot moving along
Really wonderful storytelling with a shocking end!
10/10

I really enjoy reading novels by this husband and wife duo and must get round to reading some of their earlier books. This is another fascinating read, well thought out plot, good characters and plenty of suspense.

Following Tess’s split from former boyfriend Jason, she is now completely focussed on her three year old daughter Poppy. Looking after Poppy is not easy and Tess finds it very difficult not to be constantly worrying about her safety and upbringing. This situation only worsens when Tess finds a disturbing drawing, dark and menacing, among her daughter’s brightly coloured paintings, Tess is convinced that Poppy has witnessed something terrible but not knowing what she is struggling to make others listen to her. Tess fears for Poppy, but who can she trust and what has happened.

As per usual there are plenty of suspects, lots of suspense and twists. A good entertaining read.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Simon and Schuster for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve read a few books by the authors in the past and always enjoyed them. Same happens with The unheard. It’s a story told in only the mother’s pov so it really made me stop and ask myself if I should trust her heart fully or not.
This is definitely another must read thriller that I can’t recommend enough for anyone who wants their theories to be destroyed with each chapter they read.

The Unheard, Nicci French.

When Tess discovers a disturbing drawing among her daughters things she becomes convinced that Poppy has witnessed something awful. But it’s only a childs drawing and nobody around will listen.

Nicci French have long been at the top of my must reads in the crime/thriller genre. Every single novel from their Frieda Klein series to their standalones are absolutely brilliant. The Unheard is no exception. What i love about Nicci French is that the creeping, uneasy feeling and rising tension of the protagonist also follows the reader through the novel. As I made my way through The Unheard I was constantly as on edge as Tess, Nicci French are incredibly skilled as a writing team creating that prickling feeling.
This felt like their most creative story yet, with so many suspects it was impossible to unravel until the end. Yet another unputdownable thriller from the husband and wife team who are top of the genre.

Nicci French has always been one of my go to authors and I absolutely loved their early psychological novels and think they remain some of the best in the genre. I wasn't keen on the Frieda Klein novels and was disappointed with the last Nicci French, The House of Correction, but with The Unheard the authors are definitely back on form and this reminded me of their skill in writing in this genre. I was gripped by this over the course of 24 hours and completely consumed by Tess and her life. Tess is an unreliable narrator but also plausible and like her I began to suspect all of the other characters throughout the course of the novel. There are many twists and turns and I genuinely did not anticipate the ending and did not want this novel to end. Highly recommended and a perfect example of the psychological thriller genre.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

A tense and thrilling story that captivates the reader from the start. Full of twists and turns and totally believable characters and most of all about a mother's love for her child.

Okay, so I was today old when I realised that Nicci French is actually a couple, 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗰𝗶 Gerrard & her husband Sean 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵!

I haven't picked up a Nicci French book in a long time & I'd forgotten just how good they are.

‘𝙃𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡. 𝙆𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡'

Totally engrossing, so much so that I forgot to sleep! Extremely well written with a fantastic plot. Suspenseful & tension filled, this was another winning read for me!

Tess lives with her three year old daughter Poppy, whose custody is shared with her father, Tess's ex partner Jason. Poppy loves drawing brightly coloured pictures, so when she draws a dark image of what appears to be someone falling from a building & starts talking about things vividly as if she was there, Tess begins to worry that Poppy has been exposed to something terrible. Just who or what is she protecting her from & who can she trust?

Many thanks to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review

After years of being swallowed up by Nicci French novels, I came into this book expecting nothing less than brilliance, but omg!! This book surpassed even my very high expectations. Not only did I stay up til 5am reading it, it was the 1st thing I did when I awoke. I've never described a book as being "unable to put down" but this one truly is. There are so many twists and turns and an ending that I challenge anyone to have predicted! Nicci French were at the forefront of the "domestic noir" genre, long before it even was recognised genre, but in a market that is now quite prevalent with similar premises, they just take it to a whole new level. You will be hooked from the 1st chapter!!

An outstanding psychological thriller, turning an ordinary family situation into something sinister and extraordinary. What exactly is going on? Why does Poppy exhibit extreme behaviour when returning home from a stay with her father and his new wife?
I was completely riveted, its just non stop suspense, resulting in two murdered bodies! All told from the viewpoint of Tess who is Poppy's mother.
I have read all of Nicci French's books. They never disappoint and are expertly written. The author has a professional background in psychotherapy and this comes across in the writing and can be a great source of comfort to the reader. Highly recommended.

Once I got past the slightly unbelievable bit where a mother goes to the police because her kid draws a picture and wets the bed, this was good.
I know the point is that Tess is over protective, and anxious.
There's a lot of that in the book.
It seems her daughter needs to be protected from every make she ever encounters.
It's a strange tale, that at times I couldn't see how the threads were going to connect.
But in true French style, they did,and I was entertained along the way.
Good twists and turns.
So I'm a happy reader.

Another deliciously gripping page-turner from the Nicci French team! There are some holes in the plot and the villain is no big surprise if you read regularly in this genre but the forward momentum of the book doesn't give us a moment in which to stop and dwell on the things that don't quite make sense. Pure pleasure with some creepy moments - a summer 2021 must-read.
