3.5 it’s a pretty nice book for beginners, I even try to draw by following the descriptions. I like it overall because I want to learn how to draw faces and the book help me.

This is great for what it promises -- it shows you how to draw anime and manga faces. I couldn't get past how sexualized and infantalized the female characters were, though. I know that's part of the genre, but can't we evolve past making the women seem like sexy girls in short skirts and the men like brooding dark heroes unless they're gay? If a woman is a villain, this is what she looks like. If a guy is gay, this is what he looks like. As I said, great techniques. It just felt very sexist and so stereotypical in not good ways.

A great book - my daughter used it to learn a few new shape for her drawing anime people.
The explanations are clear and there are many hair styles and expressions.
I would recommend it for anyone starting out or trying to improve their skills.

4 stars!

I have recently started watching anime, and so when I saw this book I immediately wanted to check it out. I love drawing, and it was pretty helpful for a beginner like me. Previously I used to face a little difficulty drawing the faces and especially the eyes, but now with with the help of this book this has become easier. I would hundred percent recommend it if you love anime and want to draw the characters. This was easy and fun.

I requested this title to preview it to see if I should put it in my YA library collection. It seems very informative and straight forward. I think the teens will enjoy using this title as a way to learn to draw manga/anime style characters.

My 9 year old daughter loved this advance reader copy. She was engrosed with the information and tips given and learnt many basic terms for drawing in this style. Starting with an essentials chapter, this book eased her into this drawing style and gave her the confidence to explore the 25 Anime and Manga characters in the book. She felt very successful due to the easy to follow steps and really enjoyed reading / drawing / reviewing cycle. It helped that the copy was a digital copy and she was therefore able to zoom in and see the fine detail in the sketches. She was engrossed in this book and has returned to it many times for more inspiration.

Thank you NetGalley or this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

*DISCLAIMER* I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. I only accept books I think I’d like because life is too short to waste on bad books. That said if I don’t like a book, I’ll say so, free or not. With that out of the way, onto the review:

This isn’y my favorite book and drawing in an anime/manga style (that would bd Chibi Art Class by Yoai), but this one is really solid. And unlike my fave it shows both a standard anime/manga style of each character as well as what that character could look like in chibi style..

It’s more of an overview than a detailed step by step as each face only has about 4 pictures. If I had the printed copy, that would be too many details for me in each step, but in the digital version where I can zoom in, I didn’t mind that.

Great tips for painting your drawings, but I’d say the focus is more on the drawing aspects.

Pretty cool book showing the fundamentals of the anime/manga art practices. I remember when I was young, anime style was still very popular! A friend was quite good at drawing them and I always tried but never could get it right. This book shows the fundamentals, but it can also serve as a training tool for those interested in drawing as a hobby broadly. Learning skills like these can be translated across other types of art, so that’s pretty cool. Overall, I believe this is a good book for a beginner artist or anime/manga fan just wanting to draw for fun!

Great Book! I love watching Anime and I always wanted to learn how to create all the fun unique faces and different styles. This book broke down in detail exactly how to create all the faces. It was a good read.
