I liked the alternating pov’s for the leads August and Flynn. Both were a little lost and looking at the Elizabeth Street as a kickstart to new lives. They had nice chemistry and a good connection from the the start and I liked how easy and naturally their friendship formed even in the strange circumstances they found themselves in. I appreciated that both felt bad about their white lie as well. The book did slow down in the middle and I was not too keen on what the author did with Poppy and Abe. I would have preferred more time spent on both Flynn and August getting to grips with their changing relationship/ burgeoning feelings. Overall a sweet, charming book set in a gorgeous city. (3 ⭐️)

August has just discovered that a flat has become available to rent in a house that she has been obsessed with since she was a child, she can't afford the rent on her own but is desperate to move in.
After throwing a cup of coffee over a stranger called Flynn she feels guilty as he is new to the city and alone so offers him a guided tour when she finds out he needs somewhere to live as well and is interested in the same flat. August overhears the landlady say she would prefer to let the flat to a young married couple so manages to persuade Flynn to say they are married and share the flat.
Needless to say the lies soon start to catch up with them once they move in and meet the other tenants
A nice easy read, really enjoyed it

August finds that her dream home in Bath has advertised for a new tenant. She's wanted to live there since she was a child. Only problem is it needs to be someone who's married.. There's an open day and she bumps into Flynn who she spilt a cup of coffee over and persuades him to pretend they're married

I really enjoyed this book. It was lovely and light hearted and easy to read which meant I had devoured it within days. The descriptions of this gorgeous flat in Bath were realistic and the main characters were very likeable. I genuinely wanted to see things end well for them. I will be looking up other books by Isla Gordon which says it all about how much I liked the book!

August Anderson needs somewhere to live. Dumped by her boyfriend who would rather be alone than move in with her, she has almost given up on happiness. Until she notices that the beautiful Georgian townhouse she's long admired (ahem, *obsessed over*) is looking for a new tenant, and suddenly it seems like things might be looking up . . .
There's just one catch - the traditional, buttoned-up landlord is only willing to rent to a stable, married couple and August, quite frankly, is neither. Competition for the house is fierce and August knows she'll have to come up with a plan or risk losing her last shot at her happy ending.
Enter flynn who she accidentally spills a coffee over what follows is a very funny story full of mishaps.
This is a great book and the adventures of August and Flynn are really entertaining and I could not put it down.

A lovely laugh-out-loud romance perfect for those looking for something to cheer them up.

This book left me feeling all kinds of warm and fuzzy, and made me want to take a trip to Bath immediately! With well-written and quirky characters, you soon get caught up in life on Elizabeth Street and won't want to put it down as you watch what was a small white lie snowball. The descriptions of Bath make you feel like you're right there, and you fall in love with the city just as much as you do with August and Flynn.

It's the perfect holiday read – a lighthearted romance and incredibly funny – so I'd definitely recommend.

Such a lovely summer beach read (though this itself is set in Bath) it's a nice easy read, without anything too emotionally taxing, perfect for anyone just wanting to read a happily ever after. There are some funny bits, and it's a clean read so can be read by the whole family. It was recommended to me, and I am returning the favour by recommending to others

August has always longed to live in a beautiful Georgian townhouse in Bath that she has obsessed over since she was a little girl. Often sitting at the top of the hill eating an ice cream whilst looking at it with hearts in her eyes during her lunch break. So when one of its flat becomes available to rent she is over the moon. However, her boyfriend, James, doesn't think that now is the time to move in together. Breaking up she is left wondering if this means she'll lose out on her dream home.

Flynn has returned to the UK after living in Tokyo for the past few years. Recently split with his long term girlfriend he hopes that the distance and a new job will mean a fresh start for him. Finding out that his new flatshare has gone wrong as he arrives in Bath he is left in a substantial hotel searching for somewhere to live.

Bumping into each other (literally) in a coffee shop before the open house for the Georgian flat, August and Flynn strike up an immediate friendship. Something that comes in handy when the landlady of the flat is looking for a married couple with August convincing Flynn that they can pull it off. Landing them the flat but just as friends with a fake marriage.

With a few twists and turns to the storyline, I did think at several points that this was going to go a different way to how it ended.

As they begin living together, it is not as easy as they thought to get away with the lies. Will it catch up with them and what will happen whan they start falling for each other but don't tell one another?

August Anderson is a young actress who have just moved back to Bath from London. Ever since she was a child she has been obsessed by a four-storey Georgian townhouse in Elizabeth Street, often sitting outside staring at the house as a way of relaxing. When she finds out that a flat in the house is available to rent she is ecstatic and asks her boyfriend James to move in with her to share the rent. Unfortunately James doesn't feel the same way - cue the end of that relationship!

Flynn Miyoshi has travelled from Japan to Bath to take up a new job in a law firm, he's got a flat share lined up but it falls through when the couple he was going to rent from split up and need the spare room. After a long-haul flight, delays, a coach journey from London and a night in a noisy hotel things are looking bad, then a cute girl in a coffee shop bumps into him and spills coffee all over his one remaining clean shirt.

Flynn and August get to talking and visit the open day at Elizabeth Street together, but their hopes of sharing the flat are dashed when August overhears the flat's elderly owner tell her son that she would only let the flat to a married couple. So August concocts a ludicrous plan, pretend to be married to each other to secure the flat. Of course things aren't that easy, the townhouse isn't that big, their landlady lives in one of the flats, and they are being caught out by friends, colleagues, and housemates in small lies and the minutiae of married life.

All of this was good fun and enjoyable. But about midway through this book felt like it got flabby and lost its way. Flynn starts dating a girl he meets in a bar, August starts to have feelings for their landlady's son Abe and things got a bit confused. I feel that Isla Gordon was trying to make all the characters too likable and as a reader I was confused as to which suitor I was supposed to be rooting for. Also, by making both Abe and Flynn so likable it made August's flip-flopping between the two of them feel wrong and I didn't really 'see' that August truly loved the man she chose in the end.

In the end I felt that Isla Gordon tried so hard to make everyone a good guy, tie up all the loose ends, and give everyone a happy ending that the plot drifted away. I liked it and it was easy reading but in the end I wasn't invested in the characters enough.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Escapist Romcom...
A plan, a white lie and living the dream. Could that dream house that August Anderson has obsessed over for so long really be hers to call her abode? Surely one little white lie won’t tip a balance when it comes to achieving what it is her heart truly desires? Escapist romcom with a fun and heartwarming storyline and credible characters. An ideal summer, get away from it all, relaxing read.

The Wedding Pact is very much a book of its time and all the better for that. It’s along the lines of Love Island, Married at First Sight et al. August wants to move into her dream home but the landlord thinks singles means trouble and he has indicated he would much rather rent to a stable married couple. Enter Flynn. Flynn is fairly new to the area and he too is looking for aomewhere nice to live. August knows just the place! And a little white lie won’t matter surely? After all, what could possibly go wrong!
This book is fun, funny, heartwarming and delightful. A gentle tale that skips along with sunshine in its shoulders! Loved it!
