This was a cute book for children where we follow the journey of a family of mice. I enjoyed this quick read and I feel like it definitely could have a deeper meaning to the book than children the age it is geared towards could see. While reading this book, a character keeps trying to find a better house for the family and the mother of the mice felt as if the place they were at was good enough for them. When reading that I felt like this could definitely be seen in an adult's day to day life because in some situations others try to improve our lives to something they see that could be better for us even if we are content where we are at. I definitely enjoyed this book and recommend it to anybody even though it is for children.

Out, Mouse! is a playful, clever tale of a farmer who finds two mice in his cottage and is determined to expel them. He reads advice on how to get them to leave and takes to heart the recommendation to write a letter informing them of better lodging. Such is the framework for this hilarious story.

With each letter, the farmer is delighted to have solved his problem, only to see them return after finding the recommendations lacking.

The book is adeptly narrated by Paul Collins, who provides humor and delight in a pleasing accent.

Thanks to NetGalley for making this review possible

It is a very entertaining book that when you're listening, you go too fast, awesome. I can't believe it, I finished it in 30min. tho.

Rats, a gentleman, a book full of great content, and content with a little teaching, but it leaves us something to learn.

The narrator, super great, even as a good narrator, interprets the voices of the characters well

Now and again, I like to treat my kids to a good Audiobook while in the car. Today's review is for "Out, Mouse!" which I found on NetGalley. No one asked me to review this, but I thought the cover was cute and picked it up. I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me to review this. It's also on Audible, the last time I checked, please pick up a copy if you are interested.

"Out, Mouse!" isn't a very long little Audiobook, but it's perfect as a chapter book for your beginning readers.

Let me go into my critiques first. I honestly have only one, and there isn't a perfect ending to it. I don't mind a cliffhanger if it has a proper ending to the story with the story notes, which ends the story. Unfortunately, the ending we have left us, the listeners/readers, on a cliffhanger. If you have been following my reviews for some time, you know I dislike cliffhangers like this one.

I want to know what happened with Finn and Mr. and Mrs. Mouse when they meet again. I realize it's probably left like that to let the imagination flow of the intended audience member, but I'm not too fond of cliffhangers like this in Adult fiction, nor do I like these cliffhangers in YA either.

On a side note, and I know this may not be the same precisely because of the genre, the trope of the cliffhanger is. I think George RR Martin did the world a disservice letting Jon Snow hang in the ice all this time. Okay, I'm an adult, I can get over my foibles with Jon Snow, but cliffhangers aren't fun for readers regardless of age.

If the idea is "Hey Kids, get used to this. It's a common storytelling trope and a lot of people do it," then fine, it's a cautionary tale. I consider the kids warned. I'm glad my children aren't as obsessed as I was with random questions such as: "Are they ever going to see eachother again? Will Finn tell them what he really thinks?!" They don't have that kind of connection as I did with the multitude of panic-filled questions for myself about Jon Snow and the last actual image I have from the books. Anyway, here is my only critique.

Now onto what I liked about "Out Mouse!" and the first part is the narrator. I enjoy how Paul Collins worked and performed this story. He gave so much atmosphere and joy to the already fun setting of the story. His voice was clear and crisp, and Paul knew who he was reading this to. I think he is one of the best Children's narrators ever; I'm sure he does a fantastic job with other stories too. I may look for more because his performance was top-notch.

Next, the structure (aside from the cliffhanger) was great for this novel. Every chapter was clear and concise. Every problem had its explanation, challenge, and resolution. The story was well done from a structured point of voice.

Another vast positive I have about this story is how much character development three characters can have in such a short story. This was well done, and I've seen adult fiction that doesn't have the amount of character personality nearly as well thought out as this book did. I think Children's authors get a bad rap sometimes that their stories may lack substance and structure, but Valerie L. Egar did such a fantastic job with hers. Every sort of perfect story note that there could be (aside from the cliffhanger) in this book. I felt empathy and sympathy. I felt the plight of all three characters and what they were doing for their individual character goals.

The tension and story pacing were also well done. There was action and adventure in this story that was believable and logical too. I enjoyed the chapter about the Inn. That made me laugh a lot, and I could picture the amount of work and worry the couple went through with their part in that section.

Overall, "Out, Mouse!" is a beautiful children's novel. I give this an 87/100, a 4-star review on Netgalley, My Blog, Goodreads, and The Reading Desk. "Out, Mouse!" is something you should get your 1st - 4th grader if they like imaginative cute stories, or you happen to be on a car trip and want something the kids can listen to on their way to their activities. It's so fun! Thanks again to NetGalley for letting me review this, and I'll see you all next time.

A super cute story of a man writing letters to the mice in his cottage of other places they might live. I listened to this audiobook with my five-year-old and really enjoyed this light, humorous audiobook. I really liked the narrator's dialogue delivery, although the prose seemed a touch choppy. At 32 minutes, it was about the right length for my five-year-old's attention span and he seemed to easily follow the plot, laughing as the mice kept rejecting Finn's suggestions. It definitely made me smile as well!

My five-year-old's review is as follows: I enjoyed it some (as averse to: I didn't like it or I enjoyed it a whole lot), it was funny, almost like a movie. I asked him if there was anything he didn't like, and he said no. Thanks so much to IBPA for the listen!

I listened to the audiobook and thought it would be perfect for as a bedtime story read to smaller kids. I think they would enjoy it as it would keep their attention and it had an amusing ending. I wasn't a fan of the narrator but that's personal taste and it didn't take from the enjoyment of the book.

I listened to this book via audio book and it was very engaging. Finn discovered that mice were living in his house so he decided to write them letters about other places they could live. Of course, something was not quite right about all of the new places the mice checked out.

I really liked the storytelling in this book!

A sweet little story! We would like to know what Finn does next.

The narrator took a chapter or so to get used to as he was a bit robotic and we sped the speed of narration up a little to get a proper flow to the story.

Out, Mouse! by Valerie L. Egar and performed by Paul Collins is a pleasant story about people who respect animals, all of them. So beautiful and fun.

Finn writes a polite letter to the mice asks them to leave. He tries to find them other better places to live. Well, I think Finn should know that as he cares about them, Mr and Mrs mouse cared about him.

Lovely story. I listened to this children's audiobook, narrator was great, and really enjoyed it! Now, I have become a children's fiction audiobook fan.

Thanks to Netgalley, I have given an honest review of Out, Mouse! by Valerie L. Egar.

When I picked up this book, I was looking for a feel-good-and-short type of book and this was it for me.
The idea of the book is unusual and really fun to read. This book was even hilarious at times. I enjoyed seeing the mice and the old man trying to find a common ground where both sides are satisfied. I also adored the narration of the book. It definitely felt like my granda was telling me a bedtime story and that's the exact vibe of the book in my opinion.
I am forever grateful for Netgalley for the oppotunity and I am certainly willing to listen to more books by this narrator. I highly recommend this book for people who are looking for something light-hearted and obviously for children.

This was absolutely adorable! Finn is determined to find a new place to live for the mice that have moved into his cottage. I adored the mice and Finn and their almost found family vibes. I loved this so much! The audio was amazing and fit the book perfectly.

This audiobook was great fun, brilliantly performed by Paul Collins a new-to-me- narrator. Having had furry visitors earlier in the year, I really sympathised with Finn’s dilemma. I loved the way he wrote the letters trying to be polite and not nasty, so the mice wouldn’t feel like they were being thrown out onto the street. Finn cared about them even though he desperately wanted them gone, so he sent them to various other locations that he thought might be suitable for them to set up home. I enjoyed following the mice and Finn on their journeys to find the right resolution and enjoyed the ending a lot! I definitely recommend this audiobook for young listeners.

What a fun little story this was!

The book is very short and tells the story about a men who has a mice problem. He reads a book with a very unconventional way to get rid of the pests: write them letters with suggestions about nice places they could move into. It alternates between the perspective of the man and the mice, and this makes the dynamic between them so lighthearted and fun!

I imagine how fun it'd be read this in paper with children, with colorful artwork about the story, but the audiobook is an amazing experience on its own. The narrator did a marvelous job, they brought life and happiness to the tale, their accent is delightful to hear and the little changes he makes in pitch and entonation for different characters translates their personality perfectly. Amazing job, this is the best narration in audiobooks I've ever listened to.

This was such a great listen! The concept of writing letters to the rodents infesting your home inviting them to leave for a more enticing location in order to get them out of your home had my girls (5 and 2) in endless fits of giggles! What a cute story! #outmouse #netgalley

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it ! I do love the thought of bring able to just write a letter to mice and say somewhere better for them to live !

The storyline flowed through the story without going on tangents , which helps keep hold of young readers/listeners attention . The narrator on the audio book had the absolute perfect voice for the story, you could just close your eyes and picture the man sat there writing his letters.

A cleverly written book that was wonderfully narrated, I would definitely recommend this book
