Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for this advanced copy of the latest Lincoln Rhyme novel. A welcome return to this well loved series where Lincoln and the team are hunting down The Locksmith. It was fast paced and a page turner in the true sense of the word. There are plenty of twists and turns which keeps you guessing right up to the final pages. Jeffery Deaver is a master in this genre. I have no hesitation in recommending this book. 5 stars all the way.

I was really looking forward to The Midnight Lock, let’s face it, Jeffery Deaver is right up there with the best, but sadly it just didn’t gel with me.

It started off well, and I was enjoying it, but I soon found my mind wandering, and just lost interest. There were some really clever forensics involved, but on the other hand, it felt like it held the storyline back at times, and I just wanted it to get back to the plot. Also, I couldn’t connect with the characters, and that’s never a good thing for me. Other reviewers on Netgalley have enjoyed it more, so maybe it’s me, or wrong book wrong time.

Jeffery Deaver never fails to deliver, and this installment of the Lincoln Rhyme/Amelia Sachs series was no exception. As usual, there is a criminal terrorising New York City, and it is up to the team to stop them before things go too far, and too many innocent lives are lost. This time, one of humanity's deepest fears is preyed upon. You feel safe at home. You lock your doors, and keep the danger at bay. But what if no lock can stop Him? No alarm system can alert you to his presence. He can come into your home whenever he wants. He will watch you sleep, eat your food, take your kitchen knives and leave you a message. How can He be stopped? Most importantly, what happens when he is no longer content to only watch you, but starts using the knives he carries??

The pressure mounts on Rhyme to sift through the minimal evidence and help catch Him. However Rhyme suddenly finds himself on the outside. At blame for a criminal kingpin escaping judgement at trial. Nobody on the force is allowed to work with him. Just how will he crack this case? Like with all Deaver novels, there are many plot twists, keeping you guessing until the end. It is fun, engaging, and keeps you engrossed until the very last page.

*I received this book from NetGalley for review but all opinions are my own.

The story begins with a woman waking up to find that her possessions have been moved around and someone has been watching her sleep. I found the whole idea really creepy and sinister. It also seems he is an excellent lock picker and the media soon name him. Alongside this, Lincoln is unexpectedly tripped up by an attorney defending a mobster who is then found not guilty. Lincoln is sacked as a result. Intertwined are the crazy conspiracy theories of Verum and they are gaining popularity. Of course, everything is resolved due to Lincoln and his team’s brilliance. This is as good as you would expect from Deaver and I will give it 3.5 stars for being exactly what it should be. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC.

Excellent as usual.

I love the premise, the book is deliciously creepy and keeps you hooked. I love when you get the perspective from law enforcement and from the criminal, it keeps the book moving at a good pace.

I don’t actually find the Lincoln Rhyme character very likeable which actually makes me like the books more, it’s too easy to make your main character likeable and write a good book.

Always enjoyed the Lincoln Rhyme books by Deaver this one is on par with the rest. The plot is so good it makes you wonder why people put their trust in locksmiths, however, he has not killed anybody at the start perhaps he will it is a novel that will keep you guessing there was however the usual technical information which I take is correct as it goes over my head but other than that a great story, and as always other bylines are going on, the case of the organised kingpin that the trial got thrown out as the juries"not guilty plea" and Rhyme being taken off the case of the Locksmith and was told he cannot work again for the city department as a consultant but Amelia Sach still works for the city as a "detective" could this be more of politics or is Rhyme not as good as he was. It gives the reader plenty to guess and can be a bit creepy in places when you think somebody has been in your house while your asleep and re-arranged a few bits and pieces.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for a review copy it's a great piece of writing worth the 5*'s.

Never ever does Jeffery Deaver disappoint his readers, here he has produced yet another tale in the saga of Lincoln Rhyme which yet again is different to those of before. He manages to write stories with the same characters which do not follow a predictable route unlike some authors who follow a format Jeffery Deaver like to surprise us the reader, which he does with so many twists and turns. Do not miss this book at your peril

The Midnight Lock is the latest installment in the popular Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs by Jeffery Deaver. This is the first book that I have read in the series and it proved to be an intriguing read. In this addition, a creeper has been visiting numerous apartments at night, watching the occupants sleep. His behaviour is rapidly escalating and the citizens of New York are living in year of this unstoppable 'Locksmith'.
Meanwhile, Rhyme has been suspended and is no longer working with the NYPD. Neither his wife or former colleagues should be working with him but they opt to work outside the usual policing structures in order to solve the case.
There are numerous strands to this story and each strand is cleverly woven into the overall story arc and ensures that the story moves at a rapid pace, but plenty of red herrings and drama to hold the attention of the reader. I really enjoyed this story and would read other books in the series. However, I did find that the ending could be a little confusing as there are so many strands to be resolved and this does happen quickly. But reading that section slowly would resolve the issue.

I always enjoy a Lincoln Rhyme and this is no different. Gripping from the beginning, and as the threads of guilt start to unravel there are some great shockers in there.

Another thriller in the Lincoln Rhyme series - could be read as a stand-alone. As usual the. Criminologist baffles you with his foresenic insight. I thought I had figured the story out several times before being thrown in yet another direction which kept me on the edge with suspense. Slightly confusing just before the end with a twist but once I understood the plot I felt it well worth the read.

It has been a long time since I read a Lincoln Rhyme book and so I was looking forward to reading this one and see how the characters had developed. I suspect that this series will do well now thanks to the TV series based on the characters.
This is a book that is hard to put down. I must admit there are a lot of characters in there that are hard to keep up with at times but these pull together in the end as the plot twists and turns.
A great read and I will certainly be looking out for more in the series

This, the 15th in the Lincoln Rhymes and Amelia Sachs series, is as usual a really enjoyable read. Part way through the story I was sure that I knew who the baddies were and was feeling quite smug. Then, my theories began to unravel. This book is nicely paced, full of tech details, well researched and with well rounded characters. The only downside for me is that I saw the Denzel Washington/Angelina Jolie film before I read any of this series. However, I especially enjoyed the last 20% of the book, with all my questions being answered. Well worth a read, and this book would make a really good film too.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for this Advanced Review Copy.

I came across this book on NetGalley, and the cover and description immediately grabbed my attention. And, woah, what a ride! Imagine waking in the morning, a little hungover and initially disoriented. Your feet grope for your slippers, but they’re not where they should be. Not where you ALWAYS keep them. Then it dawns on you that your phone isn’t on the bedside table where you left it charging. It only gets worse from there. Especially when you come to understand that your door is locked and both deadbolts engaged … is an intruder in here with you?

‘Something wasn’t right. Annabelle Talese, though, couldn’t quite figure out what that might be.’ From this intriguing opening line the story grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let you breathe much right up until the end. The plot, pacing, characterisation, and world building are all done excellently. With many twists and turns this book will keep you guessing. By the halfway point it had fooled me into believing I knew the culprit. I can’t say more because I don’t want to put in spoilers. All I will say is this is a great whodunnit with plenty of red herrings and plants.

Here are a couple of lines I loved …

‘She paused every so often to listen for the sound of footsteps, the sound of a breath, the sound of an unhappy board under shoes.’

And …

‘Disabled is a continuum. We each have a spot on that vast bandwidth. It’s what we do with our unique frequency that counts.’

I could add more but prefer to let you see for yourself. This is a MUST-READ BOOK. Jeffery Deaver has become one of my favourite authors this year. The Midnight Lock gets a resounding 5 stars from me. I’d give it 10 if I could. Go and buy this book!

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs have another outing in book 15 in this long running series.

A criminal, The Locksmith, is terrorising New York, and no locks seem to be able to keep him out as he breaks into people’s houses and watches them while they sleep. Is this going to progress into a murder spree? Lincoln Rhyme seeks to hunt him down, but at the same time others are hunting Lincoln and trying to bring him down.

Overall this was a very good read and moved along well. Jeffrey Deaver certainly researched well how to break through locks, although at points I felt this got a bit too technical and slowed things down. As a result I struggled with the book a bit midway but it then picked up pace for me again as it got into the second half.

Happy to recommend this book, with the slight caveat above, but always good to spend time with Lincoln and Amelia. Certainly some of the more intelligent crime fiction out there.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for providing a copy of this book for me, for an an open and honest review.

The new Lincoln Rhyme thriller, and as good as the previous ones. A complicated plot, as always and heart stopping moments when the worst seems about to happen. Lots of red herrings and minute detail to carry the plot along.
This time Lincoln is removed from his Consultancy with the NYPD and has to investigate under cover with all the difficulties that it brings. I couldn’t read it fast enough - while at the same time wanting to savor. It slowly. Impossible!
The Locksmith is a great character, much like the Watchmaker in an earlier novel, able to pick impossible locks at an incredible speed and leave no trace; except for his actions inside. I loved it, having read the previous books and the development of the characters but possibly not the best book to start with. I recommend them all!
Thanks toHarperCollins UK and NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Classic Deaver.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is full of the usual twists and turns, the odd red herring and plenty of action. It jumps around and has many strands on the go at the same time. As you are nearing the end you wonder where all the clues fit, and where the story will end. My heart was in my mouth.

When a woman wakes up and sees her clothes where they shouldn't be, her phone moved, and more scarily a plate is left near a chair as if someone was sitting there watching her sleep. The only way out is to go past a cupboard whose doors were definitely closed but are now open......

Great opening scene as always from Jeffrey Deaver. Is it the best Lincoln Rhymes/Amelia Sachs book, no definitely not, quite involved in some parts with a lot happening, not least the fact that Rhymes has been outsmarted in court by a drug lords lawyer, and Rhymes is blamed for this by NYPD bosses and is stripped of being a consultant.

A solid read and look forward to the next one.
