Absolutely brilliantly written and completely gripping - cannot recommend this one more highly. Read in less than a day - the mark of a true compulsive page turner.

This is a deliciously creepy and gripping read made all the better as it's partly set in my neck of the woods!

A serial killer is on the loose murdering people at random and the police have no leads whatsoever. Tom and Alice are happily married with a beautiful baby girl but the cracks begin to show; they are exhausted by a lack of sleep, bruising begins to appear on their baby and Alice starts writing about the serial killer. As Alice becomes more embroiled in her story, it appears the killer has her in his sights.

Written from different perspectives and with timelines from the past which smoothly lead into the present, this is a fast paced and thrilling read where the tension builds and builds right until the end. Each and every character is strong and adds something to the story.

I have read some of Alex Lake's previous books and have enjoyed each and every one of them and I will certainly be looking out for the next.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK / HarperFiction and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

Alice and Tom Stark are the main characters, normal couple with a young baby. Alice is a journalist working on a big serial killer case which turns personal.
The twists and shocks had me glued wanting to know more. I was hooked.

I sped through this in one sitting, and have to say I was fully drawn in by it.
At times it was a wild ride that felt too over the top.
But over the top in the best possible way.
I read seven days by the same author a few years ago,and remember feeling quite outraged at the audacity of one of the characters.... pretty much got the same feeling here for a lot of the book.
Lake can write some bold, and bad characters.
Great fun.
If you find made up serial killers fun.

I love all of Alex’s books and was delighted to receive a copy of the latest one from NetGalley! Alex is originally from the north west of England so offer the locations he uses in his books feel very familiar to me,
A serial killer is staking Warrington, hiding in the shadows and murdering innocents with a hammer blow. Alice Sark is a local journalist, writing about the murders for her paper. She is also wife to Tom and mum to Jo, a young baby who doesn’t allow her parents to get much sleep. Told across the summer of 2021, so post pandemic but with some flashback story too, Alice finds that her writing has caught the killer’s attention…..
I could not put this book down, will be recommending it to anyone who enjoys a thriller ride of a book.

Ready or Not by Alex Kane

I really enjoyed this book , it was full of suspense that kept you on the edge , I could feel the tension of the story building as I read each chapter , and really cared what happened to this family .
Alice and Tom have a baby called Joanne , who doesn't sleep and they are both sleep deprived. Alice solves this by taking the baby out at night driving trying to soothe her. She is also a journalist on the hunt for a sadistic killer on the loose.
The storyline is brilliant with lots of shocks and twists along the way . All the characters in the book are strong and each one brings something to the story.
A fast paced shocker , with a thrilling edge of your seat ending. I can also see this as a tv series .
Loved it !

Alice and Tom are happily married with a beautiful baby, and things get even better when Alice, a journalist, starts investigating a serial killer who has killed several people. But things begin to go wrong as Alice gets deeper into the story and the couple begin to argue. It doesn't help that their daughter Jo cries all the time and keeps them awake at night. Then it seems like they could be in danger because of Alice's stories. Could the family be in danger?

A thrilling story that keeps you turning the pages until the shocking conclusion. Full of twists and turns, this suspenseful book kept me guessing until the end. I liked how we had chapters from the past that eventually led up to present events. Great book, recommended!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
