On a Night Like This is a great, 'escape from reality' read. I read this book between Christmas and New Year and it was great to just switch off from the busyness of the holidays.
It tells the story of Fran, who lands a job working for a celebrity. By the middle of the story, there's a crazy twist and she is left abandoned and jobless. The next few days could totally change Fran's life. But deep down, she keeps thinking about the fiance that she has left behind in the UK.

As with all Lindsey Kelk books, this was a great read.

Thanks for Netgalley for the opportunity to read this, in exchange for an honest review.

As always, a wonderful read from Lindsey. Albeit not one of my favourite from her, I did still love it. I loved Fran, Juliette, Rachel, Evan and Jess. Lindsey really does smash her characters and their development. She knows how to write friendships as well as relationships. Fran was a real badass and her glow up throughout the book was wonderful to see. Also, I appreciated the whole "i don't need a man, I just want that one" vibe from her too. As a 32 year old woman, I relate!

On a Night like this by Lindsey Kelk was just a delight. A lovely mix of having to suspend belief but, at the same time, having a main character who knows things aren’t quite as they could (or should) be. Add in the bestest friend, Jess, and you’re good to go! A very easy read with likeable characters and a satisfactory outcome. What’s not to like. Four stars from me

This is an ultimate escapist read! I loved the main characters and the whole story arc. Coupled to that, genuine humour runs through the story and adds to the characters.. There is so much warmth in the story and you are invested in the characters and rooting for them to work things out. Fran finds out quite a lot about herself during the story and more importantly, what she does not want, I can't recommend this highly enough.

Thanks to netgalley for a copy of the book

‘It’s easy to make promises on a night like this,’ I said, looking out over the sea. ‘But things will be different when I wake up tomorrow and I have to go back to the real world.’

This is just plain ol’ fun … romcom at its best! A modern day Cinderella rags to riches tale that will have you enjoying some sweet escape time. Fran’s life is a bit of a mess, she’s trying to live the expected life with her fiancé but must take the opportunity for some short term employment as PA for a mysterious celebrity. One thing leads to another (with riotous LOL moments along the way) until she finds herself at the ball of the year!

I’d always been the practical one, the sensible person who thought ahead, packed a snack and made everyone go for a wee before they left the house, but there was something about this man that made me feel like I could be someone else entirely.

Surprisingly, it is not all about the romance as the leading man does not make an appearance until halfway through the book. So, that being said, it was nice to see a little bit more of the floundering female come good in this narrative arc. This is more a journey of discovery with the romantic element not the main focus. Delightfully this is more about being true to yourself, not changing to please others in an effort to live your best life.

Every day since, I’d been giving away tiny little pieces of myself just to hold on to what I had. But was it worth it? And what would happen when there were no more pieces left to give?

On a Night Like This is pure escapist fun. It’s light and bright, being a delight to read. The characters are well developed and although far-fetched at times the plot just fits the style of story. The tale trots along at a great pace with all the over-the-top twists and turns … you really will walk away with all the Cinderella feels.

I marvelled at all the choices we must have made to bring us to this exact moment and I wondered where mine would take me next.

This book is filled with classic one liners that are sure to make you smile:

‘We don’t wait for things to happen,’ Jess said, white paper muffin bag in one hand, car keys in the other. ‘We make them happen!’ ‘You sound like an Instagram post,’ I called after her. ‘If you tell me to live, laugh and love, you’re not allowed round for tea.’ ‘More like nap, nom and Netflix,’ she shouted back, already halfway out the door. ‘See you tonight.’

‘It’s going to be fine,’ she said gently, giving my hand a squeeze. ‘What’s the worst that could happen?’ ‘The last time you said that we ended up in lockdown for a year.’

‘.. whether or not you thought Kate Winslet could have made a little bit more room on that wardrobe door at the end of Titanic.’

‘Today was the day for me to put on my big girl pants, although only metaphorically speaking given that I didn’t have any pants on at all.’

I had some money in my savings account, but that wouldn’t even stretch to a luxury shopping trip in old York, let alone the new one.’

A delightful story. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry (in laughter more than likely) and it will take you on an amazing journey with fun characters on a yacht to attend a fabulous ball on an Italian island. What’s not to love?

I hadn’t just put on a different dress, I’d stepped into a different life. Gone was the girl who wore beige bras and sensible cardigans, and in her place was a glamorous, confident, beautiful woman.

This was so much fun! A little bit of Below Deck, a little bit of "The Idea of You", and a lot of giggles. The perfect holiday read.

What a delightful modern day fairytale!
This book swept me away and was easy to read. Not only due to the author’s writing style but because I feel many of us could see elements of ourselves in Fran.
This is my favourite Lindsey Kelk book (so far) and it was very enjoyable to read.

Sentimental feel good escapism, what’s not to like? Easy to read, enjoyable and funny. In the difficult times that we are living in it’s good to be able to escape into this world.

I’ve read a couple of this authors books before and enjoyed this. On A Night Like This would be a perfect Netflix rom-com, it’s got all of the usual ingredients. Light and easy to read, I could easily see it on screen. One for the romance-lovers for sure!

Fran Cooper is stuck. She’s left behind a good career in London to move to Sheffield with her fiancé, Stew. Being a PA in Sheffield isn’t the same as being one in London, and when Fran finds herself out of work in the run up to Christmas, she does something she’d promised Stew she wouldn’t do: she agrees to an interview in London, with the prospect of being away from Sheffield for the next week. The interview comes with an NDA agreement, and Fran suddenly finds herself on The Songbird, a billionaire’s yacht, working for the singer Juliette and heading for The Crystal Ball.

It’s Fran’s job to make sure Juliette gets to the ball for her performance, but it proves more difficult than Fran anticipated. But her experiences with Juliette on The Songbird will change Fran’s life, if she allows it.

On a Night Like This is a contemporary Cinderella tale. The focus is less on the romance, and more on Fran’s personal journey, as she comes to realise what it is she actually wants from life. Right when things seem at their worst, Fran finds herself doing something she never thought she would have dared to – she sneaks into The Crystal Ball. The first part of the book is building up to this and laying the groundwork for Fran’s transformation. It really does read like a modern-day fairy tale, with Fran starting off not as a woman lacking self-confidence, but a woman who has lost that confidence.

It’s not really a ‘Christmas’ book, but towards the end it does feel more festive. And it does seem I’m not the only who thought it would be more Christmassy. But despite that, it does have that kind of heart-warming seasonal feel to it.

I did like how the romance plot was secondary, and the way community was weaved into the story, as Fran has to put her own needs first for once, and the people she meets nudge her in this direction. This includes Evan, the handsome man she spends the ball with. The pair gel well together, and their scenes were all really sweet. The book had a great flow to it, and made for a great leisurely read. It really was a lovely book, with characters who are realistic and down to earth, even when some of them fall more on the glamourous side.

Fran ends the book in a different place than she started, and she gets there very much with her own determination, knowing more at the end about what she wants and doesn’t want. I think the only thing I didn’t like was sort of how easy her boyfriend gets off, but it’s realistic. It feels almost like his behaviour and attitude are treated as kind of being general not-great-boyfriend, we’re-just-not-compatible type of stuff rather than being seen as how toxic he really was.

That was a really minor thing overall. Overall I really thought this book was lovely, and it’s an ideal one to curl up with. The major focus is on Fran, and the way her life transforms through the book, and the ending is truly satisfying.

I absolutely loved On A Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk. This was my first book of hers and it won't be the last (May have added half her back catalogue to my wishlist!)
Such a fun, lighthearted read that has left me wanting to know more about the next chapter of Fran's life.

I am a huge Lindsey Kelk fan so was excited when I saw this pop up on Netgalley and even more excited when I got accepted to read it.

It is a modern day Cinderella story featuring Fran who I could totally relate to and her journey to follow her own dreams instead of trying to please others.

This book offers everything you could want: humour, romance, celebrity lifestyles and likeable characters. There are a few unrealistic moments, but on the whole this book is perfectly written and comes highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for approving me for an advanced copy of this book.

On a Night Like This is the latest by Lindsey Kelk and this escapist read is taking us to Italy and the Crystal Ball! I won’t go into the synopsis in too much detail, but the story follows Fran, who takes a last minute job as an assistant to pop star Juliette in a bid to get out of her rut... then madness ensues!

I did enjoy the modern take on Cinderella (down to a blue dress), but for me it was only an okay read. I felt like I had to suspend disbelief a bit too much and as each over the top incident happened I struggled more and more with these less believable elements. This is possibly an issue for me, but I think that when it’s a contemporary it can be harder to pull off more unrealistic things than a historical.

I liked the character of Fran as she seemed realistic and funny, and I liked her relationship with her friend too. The book was filled with Kelk’s usual humour and turns of phrase, but ultimately I was left feeling a bit disappointed. It was also a shame that the romance element of the book didn’t happen for so long.

Thank you to Harper Collins for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fran Cooper is frustrated with her life and struggles to find work. She calls her temping agency who have found a weeks work as a PA assistant but they can't give any information until she agrees to the interview and signs an NDA.
Taking the opportunity to escape from her fiancée's family, she agrees to travel to London for the interview and is stunned to be offered the job straight away. She discovers she will be an assistant to the singer Juliette and all she has to do is keep Juliette out of trouble, and to arrive at The Crystal Ball on time. It sounds simple until she boards the Songbird yacht and meets Juliette.

Fran later gets stranded in Panarea and ends up gatecrashing the Crystal Ball where she meets the suave Evan and has a magical night. Her strong attraction to Evan leads Fran to review her life and where/who she wants to be but knows once the ball ends - she will return to her humdrum existence. The time spent in Panarea also gives her a new found confidence and decides to change her life to how she wants it to be.

A great take on the Cinderella tale and you start routing for Fran and Evan to be together - a lovely read.

A week's temping job in the run up to Christmas gives Fran the adventure of a lifetime and a chance to reset some of her life choices.

This Christmas novel from Lindsey Kelk was a lot of fun. Wildly unrealistic but it carries itself lightly and has a really good sense of humour. I loved the character of Fran and it was great to see her get her happy ending.

This is Lindsey Kelk at her finest.
Every now and then, a bookworm needs a reset from her usual thriller reads and this book was perfect for just that
I got so swept up in Frans journey
In the first few chapters, when we first meet Stew, I was so mad at the way he treat her and spoke to her. I knew they were just not right for each other
I was so pleased when Fran took the role as Juliette’s assistant
I loved reading about the way they friendship unravelled
The book was a perfect, festive, romantic read and I thoroughly enjoyed it
Please tell me this isn’t the last we hear of Fran! Surely this has to be the making of a new series!
